  • Its Doris Day ok but its not Bob Hope

  • @celticstar7 It is Bob Hope... its from a radio program.... Doris was on his radio program.

  • Wow. This is how people used to perform in a live Xmas broadcast, probably after a few egg-nogs. It's disturbing to compare this to the digitally-tweeked, over-produced garbage that passes for music today, even with engineers fixing and re-mixing the dearth of talent that screws its way to the stage.

  • @nauort23 I think the artists from the past certainly had talent to spare. I really wonder what some of today's "singers" would sound like without all the electronical

enhancements. I think fans might be quite surprised !! Sometimes its hard to tell what in the world you're hearing !

  • @Dayniac4324 I do have to defend some of the artists I listen to, which is slightly different from many of my friends who don't understand why I like them becaues they like all the super auto-tuned rap crap. I like artists that use auto-tune like make-up, they use it to enhance their voice, not cover it up completely. Course Evanescence seems to always be not quite on top ever, or Avril Lavigne, or Jesse McCartney, even Nickelback isn't on top because they won't do the auto-tune.

  • @nauort23 I agree with you. Few of these "singers" now days can not hold a candle to the likes of these classics.

  • LOVE!!!!!!!!!

  • So lovely to hear, thank you for posting :-)

  • @Cathyd381 I'm really happy you enjoyed it ! It is fun to hear her with Bob. I'm sure they had great fun while Doris was on his radio program and they toured.

    Merry Christmas !!

  • These two have major chemistry.

  • I enjoy every song that Doris has done

thanks 4 putting this on the tube

    michael

  • @CLIFFRFAN21 I'm really happy you enjoyed ... its fun to hear her sing with Bob Hope. Thanks for listening !!

  • One person thinks it's hot outside

  • thank you dear..I know what you mean..she really is wonderful good happy dreams

  • very good,,,what has she not done????

  • @montserrat533 Not much that Doris couldn't do !! Thanks.... hope have a great week !! :-)

  • @TheLadyWhoLunches What! The ONLY reason a guy wants a girl to stay is for sexy time. You've been fooled if you think otherwise.

  • loved it!!

  • I have always loved Bob Hope, and Doris Day pairs with him so well on this song. Thanks for posting it! :)

  • @queenmarylady They do sound good together. So happy you enjoyed !

  • I miss those days and music and it was even before I was born.

  • @beentheredonethatb4 I feel the same way ... wish things were like that now. Happy you enjoyed !

  • @Dayniac4324 Thanks for posting this. So glad it's all preserved on film and recordings.

  • @beentheredonethatb4 I'm really happy you enjoyed !!!

  • why does everyone have to pyscho-analize everthing. it's like they purposly look for a reason to be offended. just enjoy the music

  • @lisazebastian I'm with you there .... I don't really get what is going on with this song ... its an innocent flirtatious song ... lets just enjoy the music !! Thank you !!!

  • OMG in those days having just a little alcohol in a drink for a woman ,,,well...lets just say good girls did not do hard alcohol....so the reference about Say Whats In this Drink? Meaning did he add a little something booze ---- not rufies.

  • when she says "say whats in this drink", it sounds to me like she just likes how it tastes....why does she have to accuse him of drugging her? cmon now guyssss

  • @kenzbymanynames I always thought that maybe he made the drink a wee bit strong - a little extra liquor... .. and she says .. hey - whats in this drink ? He's not drugging her .... this was 1949 ... not some club in 2010. Pleassssssssssssse !

  • @Dayniac4324 nonono!! im agreeing. i Dont think hes drugging her. they wouldnt sing about that kind of stuff in '49, i know:)

  • @TX169 I doubt "say what's in this drink" was a reference to GHB or rohypnol. This is Bob Hope and Doris Day, not Eminem and Dr. Dre.

  • @ddpsp Here .. here.... agree whole heartedly !

  • How old was she when she made this recording? She sounds so young. I just love love love her!

  • @BeanyboBean Well ... there are two birth years quoted for Doris. 1922 or 1924. She says 1924 - so I'm going with that. So .. she was 25 years old. I guess you can tell I love her too !! Happy you enjoyed !

  • just simply adore this !!!

  • @dorine1240 Me too ... they really sound good together. Hope you have a great

    weekend !!

  • really...I will have to look into it...thanks....=)

  • how I love this song....I love the doris day and dean martin version too.....

  • @LovedbyKenubus To my knowledge she didn't sing this with Dean Martin. This was for Bob Hope's radio program. Doris toured with him and was on his radio show.

  • i get to sing this for my choir concert!

  • @mackjaysta601 That should be fun ... I think this is a really cute song. Have fun !!

  • Whatever happened to all these amazing minds in music, i miss when songs werent talking about having sex or starting fights

  • @emerald0 I think the suggestiveness of this song is plenty ... i'm with you .. do we have to have it the way it is today ?? I miss songs from this time too ! Thank you .. happy you enjoyed !

  • @emerald0 LOL, This song IS about having SEX.

  • @teamjohntiger Should she stay or go ??? Thats the question in the song....so yes... I think you're right !

  • @Dayniac4324 I know! some people think that people didn't think like that in those days. NOT TRUE. How do explain herpes and chlamydia today!

  • @teamjohntiger This song isn't about sex! It's about a guy trying to get a girl to give a chance. He wants a romance with her, but she thinks he's just a player. He keeps her from leaving by giving her an excuse - it's cold outside. It was made famous in a movie called Neptune's Daughter, sung by Esther Williams and Ricardo Montalbán, and then by Betty Garret and Red Skelton in reversed roles. (Betty as a girl trying to get a guy to stay with her longer.) It's a very wholesome song from the 40s.

  • @TheLadyWhoLunches Well ... I think you're right about getting her to stay ... but she might be staying for some intense necking ... maybe more - maybe not ?? !! lol .. I think you're right ... a much more wholesome view of life than what we have now. Too bad we don't look at things in this light today. Don't you think it's kind of pushing the envelope with the morals of the day though ? It has kind of sexy undertones - getting her to stay whether sex is the end result.

  • @Dayniac4324 I doubt they would have had pre-marital sex back then. The Esther Williams part of the song was definitely wholesome, but the Betty Garret part might have had sexier intentions ;)

I was definitely born in the wrong decade. Things really were so much more wholesome back then...

  • @TheLadyWhoLunches Oh .. I think it did happen .. but not like today. I'm sure it was a much more innocent prospect of some necking. But ... it wasn't all innocence. Lets say - it wasn't anything like it is today - NOTHING !

I'm with you .. I'd much prefer the wholesome more innocent times.

  • @emerald0 You don't think this song is about having sex?

  • @mkanoap Maybe not the act itself but a lil neckin' is on his mind.

  • @BeanyboBean I think your on the right track. Amazing to me - the comments this song gets. My goodness .. its a fun .. sexy little song. I've looked at other postings of this song .. sung by other people .. and they have the same kind of comments. Interesting !!!

  • @mkanoap no one does but you!

  • @MMfan1997 I sure wish the search for "recent comments by mkanoap" would show me what you are replying to, I can't remember what I said! :)

  • @emerald0 this song is definitely (although somewhat subtly) about sex.

  • The original is Red Skelton & Betty Garrett/Ricardo Montavon & Esther Williams in "Neptune's Daughter". The movie takes place in Florida, so not very cold with Esther swimming all over.

  • @dahsuerk Hey ... thank you for that info ... that is funny that it was in Florida with Esther swimming ... not very cold ! Funny !!

  • I just wish the recording was of better quality. It is such a great version of the song. Can't get enough of Doris Day!

  • No offense to circle snake but if you listen to the voices as they say do, its VERY clear this is Bob Hope singing.!And as for wikipedia-its written by viewers and clearly states there are errors, and asks for corrections to be submitted.

  • @BrandonTxOthor Well - I have to agree with you. This is clearly Bob Hope.

And yes - you have to be careful about wikipedia .. written by the viewers.

    Thank you... appreciate it !

  • Dear Dayniac, Thank you for this and your many widely popular posts. The voice on this recording is that of Buddy Clark. Please consider crediting his name. Doris and Buddy recorded Baby It's Cold Outside on vinyl with Columbia Records in addition to several radio versions on various radio programs, including Buddy's Contented Hour. In comparing this rendition to the duo's collection, you may recognize Buddy's unique voice in clear contrast to Bob Hope's. Thanks for your consideration. A Clark

  • @circlesnake No .. I'm sorry .. this is from one of Bob Hope's radio programs. Doris was on his program and traveled with his troupe.

  • Comment removed

  • Correction at Self:

Buddy Clark and Dinah Shore recorded a version of "Baby It's Cold Outside" in 1949 that hit #4 on the Charts. Doris Day and Bing Crosby recorded it in the 1930's.

Please see wikipedia: "Baby It's Cold Outside," Dinah Shore, Buddy Clark, Doris Day, and Bob Hope.

    @Dayniac4324

Bob Hope welcomed male and female vocalists on his radio show. This sounds like Doris, and there is no doubt that's Buddy Clark. Please consider taking the time to listen to their voices. Thank you.

  • @circlesnake I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree about this one.

  • @circlesnake This is definitely Bob Hope singing with Doris Day. It sounds like him and Buddy Clark's voice, while similar, was a little deeper. According to her autobiography, she did live radio with Bob Hope in the late forties. Doris Day did not, as far as I know, record with Bing Crosby in the 1930s, but she did sing with Bob Crosby's (Bing's brother) band for a brief period before joining Les Brown's.

  • @digitalclock Thank you ... yes .... what you said is true ! I really don't know how you could say this is someone besides Bob ! I wonder if the Bing confusion is because she sang with Bob Crosby. Or .. it could possibly be the fact that they were both on Bob's radio program. Who knows. Anyway - thank you !

  • ok guys... back in the day, the innocence of it is that he wished she would stay and she wants to, but its taboo for a woman to not come home after she's been to a man's house.... so the song is a teasing tug of war of words between the two of them in reasoning why she should/shouldn't stay. The unspoken reality is that she wouldn't and won't.

  • @katchitifyoucan THANK YOU !!!!! Things were a bit different back then ... I don't think they had date rape drugs ... and that certainly is not the road this song is going down. You've got it right ... he's trying to persuade her to stay .. but she isn't going to ! She might want to but ... the folks at home wouldn't go for that ! Once again .. thank you for your words of wisdom .. appreciate it !!

  • listen to "Nina and Frederik - Baby It's Col Outside" it's much funier:D

  • Isnt this song about Rape?

  • HUH ??????????? don't think so !

  • Yeah, it is.

He's basically drugging her/drinking her under the table.

Her: but maybe just a half a drink more

Him: (put some records on while I pour)

    Her: the neighbors might faint

Him: (baby it's bad out there)

Her: SAY WHAT'S IN THIS DRINK?

Him: (no cabs to be had out there)

    Pretty ominous.

  • I think you may be reading a little too much into this song ... but .. to each his own.

  • @TX169 It is NOT a rape song, idiot. It is a romantic song- hell, it was written by a married couple. Lrn2wiki, at the least because you have your facts completely wrong.

  • @Jouninbaka I have to side with you on this. This is a song where she knows she should go home but maybe she wants to stay. You know .. things used to be a bit different in the past. Attitudes were a little different in the 40's and 50's. Promiscuity wasn't the norm. And I don't think they had date rape drugs. What is our world coming to ?! Anyway ... thanks for your knowledgeable comment !! Greatly appreciated.

  • @Jouninbaka

I have determined that reading you tube comment has proven that people are very very sick and think the worst.. You are correct - this is not a rape song!!!!!

  • @TX169 It's called being coy and flirtatious! Seriously.... "Say what's in this drink?" and it just HAS to be drugging.

  • A real special moment! Beautifully done, the audio and visual!

  • It is a fun tune from them .. wish the audio was a bit clearer. Thank you... so happy you enjoyed !

  • ahhhh, she is so special. I just love her music. And with Bob Hope, what a great video.

    Thank you,

    ken

So happy you enjoyed ... thank you !

Wish it was a better recording .. but its still fun !

  • @NicoleMarie121593 Oh yes... thats Bob. They sounded really good together ... don't you think ? Thanks... happy you enjoyed !

  • YES! That was awesome! I loved it! :D

  • This song is about a conflicted young woman who desperately wants to stay with her love interest, but coyly and coquttishly wants him to convince her stay a bit longer. The typical simpering female who wants to be conquered.

  • @drjaneblack - Well -- I suppose so ! But it sure is fun when Doris and Bob sing it !

  • Hi Scotty and Libby !! Hope you all are doing well . Glad you enjoyed this one.

Have a lovely weekend .... Toni

  • Thanks Toni for another wonderful Doris video. I´m not wondering about the songs you have, but so many photos - and always the perfect one for the videos. Maybe you have your own Doris archive *g* All the best, Petra

  • I DO kind of have my own archive Petra -- LOTS of pictures !! I'd say too many - but - you can't really have too many pictures of Doris !! hahaha !! Have a great weekend ... Take care ... Toni

  • petra,

toni has thousands of pictures! your term "archive" is better than my own "library" of toni's pictures!! LOL that's a huge reason why her videos are always so good!! take care,

    david

  • LOL - David, it looks like a full hard disk ;) But remember, thousands of pictures are nothing unlike you have the original Toni around you. And that count, best wishes Petra

  • Great vid, Toni, thanks. Beautiful pictures, as always. How many do you have in your collection anyway? ;-)

  • Thanks Marion ! You know -- I hate to admit it but I have thousands of pictures in my collection. I've been collecting for a long long time !!!

  • wonderful video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks DY -- so happy you enjoyed it !!

    Take care !

  • I wish I could give 20*s to every Doris video you post! Loved this one, as always!

  • Thank you sactogranny -- glad you liked it.

Just having fun sharing Doris and happy to have people enjoy her ! Hope you have a great weekend !!

  • I'm so glad, I got one more DD song now. On the internet there are so many errors. They tell us, she sings Summertime, Tammy, Never on Sunday, Fascination, Sisters, Doggy ... They mixup her with Ella, Debbie , Rosemary, Peggy, Conie. Do you know, if she ever sang with Bing Crosby and Dean Martin? Did she sing Buttons and bows, Love and marriage and How much is the doggy ...? I think she didn't recorded these songs, but maybe she sang some in OTR, as she did O holy night.

    See you, Nada

  • Hi, I believe she did sing "Love and Marriage"

  • Hi, Theodomus!

Are you sure? The version I heard isn't sung by her. Do you own the copy of it and would you send it to me. Let me know, please. I'm a collector of her songs and have a lot of them, but this one (and some more - about 50 I couldn't get till now.)

    Thanks, Nada

  • Just for the record: The song is on "The Platinum Collection" of Doris Day, but the voice really doesn't sound like hers and someone very knowledgeable I asked (Thanks, Peter :-) ) agrees that it shouldn't have been her singing it. Sorry for the probable misinformation.

  • I'm confused by your comment Marion.

Peter just commented that it is Doris singing with Bob and was probably done on his radio program in 1949. I think it sounds like her. Oh - are you talking about Love and Marriage ? I just saw your earlier comment - is that the song you're referring to ?

  • Yes, I was referring to Love and Marriage. I had written Nada before, but wanted to clarify it for other readers. Sorry for the confusion, Toni. ;)

  • I know Nada - I see all the time songs that say they're Doris - but they aren't. Like the Bing Crosby Baby Its Cold Outside - that isn't Doris. Thanks for that OTR you sent me - its great ! I need to check some of those out. Hope you have a lovely weekend ! Take care.... Toni

  • Thanks Toni. Always great to see Doris :)

  • Fantastic Toni. Did`nt know that these two great stars had a version of this song!

They sound excellent together! Have a great weekend dear friend. Shiny stars and warm loving hugs..Jan and Susan x

  • Thank you Jan and Susan -- I think they sang this on Bob's radio program. They really did sound great together. Hope you have a lovely weekend too ... hugs ... Toni
