  • Thank You .. Very Good Information !

  • CLicked on the thumbnail cause I thought it was Albert Einstein.. Good video though thanks

  • Do you have to be a writer to become a Director ?

  • @MrTestNTune actually, no. I'm no expert, but to me, writing and directing are two separate skills.

  • @MrTestNTune

You don't have to but it's a major advantage.

  • Interesting dissertation, but all I do is get all of the previous films in the genre and style being used, found out how it was used before, form the new and latest work.

  • With all the technology today, why cant someone just be living somewhere like Toronto and have meetings through phone or email instead of spending so much money and time in moving to another country and all this hassle? If technology is good enough to create scores online i dont see why you need to be there where the director/producer if you can contact them in other ways.

  • Thanks for this- you helped a lot of people and with the industries changing and so much more product being out there ...we will need the people which can

    1) Play

    2) write

    3) Be in the right place

    and......................................

    4) stick with it

  • Oh man Todd never lets you down, everything this guys says is pure gold!

  • Very helpful video.

  • Interesting to see music as big business. Good luck to all aspiring composers!

  • nice to see some advice here. i am an aspiring film composer

  • I write filmmusic, well, if I have some time ;-)

    its on my channel...

  • interesting..

  • The ArtistsHouseMusic site is the best site I know for every kind of artist. Even for people that don't play music but still deal with artists.

I'm learning to be a film composer and they have so many videos on how to do it.

  • There are many people who want to be Film Composer i see.

I am 14 i just started Piano Lessons.

I always make music with my mouth :P flute some melodies. I am 24 hours 7 days per week busy with music..

its my dream. But it loooks so hard to become what i want. Luck is the best you can need in this lifetime.

  • Yes, there have definitely been a lot more film composers coming up over the years.

And yeah, man. It's hard to do. But all you need to do is be smart about the process. And just start doing. Start looking for projects... ask your friends to make movies so that you can make the music to them.

I checked out your video. You should start putting some originals up, man!

  • Yes, but how do you mean originals?

    My own made scores?

  • Yeah, that's what I meant. Your own made scores. Have you got any? I know you said on your page that you would post some up soon.

  • Yes i have one.. made with fl studio ..

but im busy to fix my MIDI keyboard.. when its fixed i can make music.

I'm very busy with writing notes and that kinda stuff (for drums)

  • great advice ..

  • Great video and information. Thanks a ton. Even though, I am composing for TV while living in Maryland and communicating with a MS in Hollywood.

  • Yeah im working on the music for a TV show right now and still trying to make an theme for it. It's hard when nothing pops up in your mind you gotta dig it out and make something from it.

  • Yeah I have the same problem. It's times like those when you really envy composers like Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven who wrote hundereds of masterpieces in one short lifetime.

  • Although it's been 3 months since then, I suggest next time you take it easier, my friend :-)

Let it go. Go out, do whatever makes you feel good - even if final deadline is near (despite what many fear-driven composers might tell you!). It's fear that blocks your great talent. Fear of not finishing on time, fear of producing a work that is below your standards, etc. Convince yourself you are free of any fear, convince yourself you have just written a brilliant theme... what does it sound like?

  • Im scared I won;t make it in the music industry, I already go to berklee and I'm afraid i wont make it...

  • we all are sometimes. the most important things is just to keep moving.

  • passion, my friend. we'll make it.

  • You know what man... if you want it bad enough you can have it.

  • thats right... i live in australia... cant get a visa for anywhere " close to the action" the arsehole of the world!!!

  • Well, I am in New York so I got that one covered :)...... now I gotta take care of all the other stuff he mentioned.

  • Thankyou very much for the upload! I have added this to a new playlist dedicated to film music info.

I plan to be working in and around London after i finish my degree, so i think that does count as being "where the action is"

  • Very good. I had the same thoughts of what he is saying.

  • nice video!Thanks
