  • Sweet review

  • on the turbo outrun machine you were playing in this video, did the shifter have a turbo button on it, or was the start button used for turbo on it? Since that machine was a outrun conversion into turbo outrun, i bet the start button was the turbo button, am i right?

  • @mrgutchman It was on the shifter, which was a bit odd to me as well since I was under the impression conversion cabs usually had it as the start button.

  • @phreakindee also, that segment with a guy in a corner saying "does this little race car driver want to go home", is that from a movie of some sort?

  • @mrgutchman That's from the game "Road & Track Presents: The Need For Speed" on the 3DO console. It's the X-Man, who constantly taunts you throughout the game.

  • @phreakindee you know what else I find odd about this TOR cabinet? The instruction bezel from the upright TOR cabinet is used on this machine you played.

  • hey LGR, did you realise that when the car turns in their respective direction the ferari logo on the back gets mirrored ?

  • @cptultor I not only noticed, but I approved.

  • I can't reach mah quarters!

  • Hydro Thunder was my favorite arcade game I ever played.

  • this is that classic game from 90s i love it

  • Ah yes, the woman as a trophy trope. What would 80s games have been without it?

  • Great Review!! Love Out Run and the Turbo version is pretty good too. It's a shame they did away with the multiple routes as that was one of my favourite things about the original. I used to like replaying it just to see what those other endings were like.

You're really lucky having an arcade close by where you can play these kinds of classic titles. All of the ones near me tend to have newer and less interesting titles. What's more, most of the units are slot machines. Urrgh!!

  • @gamerslivingroom yeah modern arcades are bollocks....it makes me all happy to come across an arcade full of old games...not very often does that happen v_v

  • review Congo Bongo

  • @surfingthechaos If I run across a machine, I will!

  • I saw an atari 2600 at a thrift store and would not have known what it was without LGR

  • I would think with the car this guy drives he can get more than just 1 harlot in the car, if she leaves.... NEXT BITCH COME OOOOOOON DOWN!

I also had the pleasure of playing the upright version of the cabinet in my local laundromat and was a fun time indeed. = )

  • Nother great review. :)

  • ARE YOU PARTERN NOW!!!!

  • You were too lazy with that coin at the end.

  • @danielmewes Oh! I see what you did there :-)

  • Hahaha epic end xD

  • The outrun series are the most memorable game for me ! I had one in my home a long time where i could switch between outrun and outrun turbo .

    Awesome game .

    Thanks for reviewing it !

  • You have the voice of a critic.

  • @Cel3ry Not sure if that's a good or a bad thing, but I'll take your word for it!

  • I believe its an F-50 :p

    Great review as always!!

  • @stickmansamsmith The game came out in 1989, a full six years before the F-50 was produced. So yeah, the F-40 is what the car is based on quite clearly :D

  • @phreakindee Woops correct you are. Thanks for sorting that out and so quick!

    Love your work!!! :)

  • this was my shit. arcade reviews are boss!

  • How did you get the non-CRT footage seen in the review? Was it taken directly from the video output of the arcade machine, or was it recorded in MAME?

  • @Expack3 MAME.

  • Great vid I've only played the 2003 cabinet version and Outrun Coast 2Coast, which were what got me started with outrun. Have you ever played those phreakindee?

  • @Digitrax83 I have played those and I enjoy them! They are more like the original Outrun, with forks in the road and such, and are a ton of fun so I highly approve.

  • i love the sega ones where you sit in the car thing and actually feels like youre racing

  • @Shiqna1 yep, must be. if it's true, the other mechanics are just lazy, carrying around wrenches and stuff..

  • @Shiqna1 Topless is hot, convertibles aren't always hot :P

FYI: TopLESS = without top, a.k.a. roof. What were you thinking? Perv :P

  • i like this passive-agressive poster in the wall

  • LGR,you should review '' The Elder Scrolls 1:Arena ''.

  • Heh yeah I remember playing the original in the arcades but the standup version only. I don't think I ever played this one in the arcades. The home port was horrible. I hated it compared to the original Outrun. Yeah it looks like an F40 alright cept it's a convertible. They want you to see the players in the car though. Plus I don't think the outrun games where ever licensed. It was always a car very similar to a Ferrari but not quite a Ferrari. More like a Ferarro I suppose.

  • @Shiqna1 It was simply more convenient, but the FOV issue and inadequate lighting issues did come into play somewhat. Might try with my camera next time to see how it works.

  • @Shiqna1 I think you miss understood me. What I was getting at was, its always nice to see obscure games getting a little more screen play then the popular games. I love my arcade games, and a lot of the games I enjoy, a lot of people don't really talk about! I mean how often do you hear someone say "My favorite arcade games are Zombie Raid, Chiller, The Combatribes, and Blood Storm" for example? Not often. And I also trust @phreakindee 110%, the man does a fantastic review every time!

  • @Shiqna1 Thanks dude, glad you enjoyed!

I wish I could have showed more footage too, but my phone didn't pick it up very well and the cabinet was constantly moving back and forth so it was hard to get clear footage. For future arcade games, I hope to have more monitor footage.

  • Why does the video preview look like there's Rick Astley on it?

  • My m11x will never break!!

  • I like "Outrunners"

  • game has amazing music

  • lol at the end. had that happen to me so many times...

  • Sweet, I love arcade machines. Sadly we didn't have an Outrun machine that moved but the local arcade did have the fully enclosed After Burner game.

Shame the arcade is now full of boring rhythm games and gambling machines instead.

Also I'm still annoyed you Americans played at the arcade with quarters, a credit cost an entire quid over here.

  • Nicely done! I hope there will be more arcade reviews in the future. :)

  • GAME OVER YEEEEEEEEEAH

  • Great review. I have never seen the arcade version shown in such detail before with a few of its levels. A nice follow-up to Outrun I do think it is a shame about no forks in the road but as long as the gameplay is still there then I guess it is all good. I like the touch of your girlfriend leaving your car for your opponents. Quite amusing.

  • BEST MUSIC EVER

  • Failing to insert more quarters before the timer runs out.... Everyone's been there at least once.

  • A moving game cabinet? Wow. I've never seen that before.

  • You should check out enduroracer if you find a cabinet.

  • Great video. I loved Outrun & Turbo Outrun these were the arcade racers I grew up with. None of that Gran Turismo rubbish ;)

  • I've never really seen/played Outrun, so when I first saw the car go apeshit and the people went flying, my mouth dropped a little.

  • did the guys that made this also do cruisin usa?

    i noticed alot of similarities

  • I went to an arcade that had a Guilty Gear machine, and the cabinet was shoddily converted, the cabinet still said Mortal Kombat, not sure which version if it, and had holes for missing buttons that Guilty Gear didn't use. Oh well, that place was actually selling them as well for 2,000 dollars, even the ones that looked like they'd seen hell. Some even had messed up monitors in them, so I doubt anyone would buy them unless they could fix them up. Still cool, I miss arcades...

  • how do you record this?

  • @shurdi3 I just used my Samsung Galaxy S 4G phone to record the machine and used MAME for the gameplay.

  • @phreakindee I'm guessing your used Fraps like I do. :p

  • @GX2Productions Yup! Fraps and D3D acceleration in MAME.

  • @phreakindee Yeah. I recently reviewed Dragon Spirit Arcade on Mame using Fraps. Check out my review to see what I'm talking about. It's a collab review too and I'm pretty proud of it.

  • that machine is awesome, to bad you don't see them nowadays.

  • @djsmith3000 Well, I saw one :D But I know what you mean. Very uncommon finds, these are.

  • @djsmith3000 They're pretty uncommon in the US, but I found several different versions of this game in my time in Indonesia.

  • Reminds me a lot of Lamborghini: American Challenge. That was a fun game. Tough until you realized you could end the race as soon as you got a high place and not need to even make it to the finish line, heheh.

  • WTF... why does the douchebag get the Porsche? :( Anyway I didn't even know 959 comes in topless version...

  • I love the Outrun series! The music alone sets me in a state of nostalgia! Thanks for an awesome review! And I can't wait to see more arcade reviews! Do some really obscure games! They are usually the best!

  • Hate to break it to you bro, but your girlfriend is a slut.

  • Now in 720p

  • Nice review! Also there were 23 new comments added while I was watching this, wow Mr. Popularity!

  • Yu Suzuki ftw

  • Once again a very nice review. I´m a subscriber for quite a while now and your scripts are always very well written. For TOR: I never liked the game too much because in my humble opinion it never came even close to the original OR. For me the graphics look a little awkard, just as if it was a chinese homebrew or something. It´s a shame that so many original OR-Deluxe cabs were destroyed by converting them into an inferior game. But PLEASE do MORE ARCADE REVIEWS!! Greetings from over the pond.

  • @blablupp77 It really is a shame so many OutRun cabs were killed for this game, including this one I played one as far as I know. I really have a love/hate relationship with conversion kits for arcade machines.

It's still a fun game, but yeah, more often than not I prefer the original OR to TOR.

  • lol just carry the engine

  • one of the best reviews of the game! keep up the awesome work!

  • There's something weird about how the mechanic just carries arround the engine as if it were a wrench at 5:10

  • @serginietor Mysterious mechanics are mysterious.

  • @phreakindee Absolutely, he must be a superhero of sorts.

  • hah, looks like it was a original Outrun cab converted to turbo, or they just reused the same style for them, since the one i got looks the same but without the "Turbo" stickers or gameplay.

  • I played only C64 version of Outrun, and it wasn't even 50% as good as arcade oryginal.

  • Screw that, ur one of few dudes out there who can appreciate real classics. Respect,

  • @phreakindee Yeah thats the one I mean, looks like they "modernized" it which isnt always a good thing! (I havent played either)

  • @JMMREVIEW It actually does the game a surprising amount of justice! It's got a new drifting and slipstream system, but it fits into the whole OutRun feel rather well. A very fun game, I'd very much recommend downloading it before its license to be on XBLA runs out this December.

  • @phreakindee I'm a big fan of OutRun 2006 Coast 2 Coast, which is pretty much the same as Online Arcade I think. Unfortunately Online Arcade is not available in Europe any more because their Ferrari licence ran out...

  • I've actually played the original Outrun on the arcade model where it was in the shape of a car and would move about as you go left or right. Probably one of the best games I played in the arcade.

  • OMG, i have played this game in one amusement park when i was a little!

  • Pretty sure this was remade on XBLA

  • @JMMREVIEW Pretty sure you're referring to OutRun Online Arcade, which is on XBLA and used to be on PSN. It's more of a remake/sequel to the original OutRun, with forks in the road, radio station selection and no turbo button or anything specific to Turbo Outrun.

  • @phreakindee OutRun Online Arcade was pretty much an Outrun Coast 2 Coast upgrade, which in of itself is a remake/upgrade of Outrun 2, which is a remake of the original. Sorry to nitpick, keep up the awesome reviews :D

  • @insanecow11 whoops, in that last sentence I meant re-imaging (I think, lol)

  • Nice... I was hoping you'd get to reviewing some of those arcade machines.

  • @GodsBurden Yeah man. Several more arcade reviews on the way, too!

  • That is fucking SWEET!

If I ever get rich enough to be able to blow a few grand on one, I'd LOVE to get a dual cab sit-down Outrunners machine.

  • @Quimbyrbg i bought mine for 1000 SEK, which is about 153 USD, from an old, closed down Arcade hall i used to visit during the summers as a kid.

  • A game that isn't a PC game? This is new.

  • That was one of my favorite arcade games.......

  • This games kicks so much ass!

  • I always thought the best original arcade OutRun port was the Sega Ages game on Saturn which coincidentally has pretty much the best arcade ports of Space Harrier and Afterburner II.

  • Thumbs up if phreakindee send you here XD

  • fuck yes!!

  • Good job, I have always loved your videos, and always will :)

  • Nice review mate , i like it hope to see more off u. ;]

  • I love out run so much!
