I will document my build aswell, and hopefully be atleast half inspiring to someone else as you have been to me. I love the tank, kudos to Staplegun, he reminds me of my own cat Ben. I thank you again for all your time and energy put into this video post.

Do you know if the substrate has anything to do with the coreline alge?

  • Absolutely LOVE IT! I watched all your videos you seem to know TOO MUCH about this hobby! I have learnt a LOT from you regarding this hobby and I am planning to change my tropical 75Gal into a marine tank now and I was really hoping you would give me ideas and give me advices. Keep it up and keep in touch!!! I'll miss StapleGun my Fav:D!

  • Beautiful fish and tank..very intetresting presentation

  • man I am so wanting to do a saltwater in a 55 but I dont know much about them. I am an avid freshwater tanker but want the action of coral and crabs I will be watching your vids alot to help me in this decision.

  • Beautiful !!!!!!!!!!!! One day I hope to get there. LOL , Thanks for the post. Check my SW tank out when you can.

  • WOW! Very nice setup, and narrating as well! Is this your occupation? If not, you should setup a business setting up aquariums and providing feedback to amateur aquarists...you are a pro. Hats off to you!! By the way, how many gallons is your sump tank? Are you running a UV sterilizer? Also, after your Copepods populate in your refugium and eventually into the liverock, do you have to ever add any more in the future? How do you control the water level in your sump?

  • I just watched every single one of your videos and I must say that you're a great inspiration to aquaria beginners the world over. I love the approach to your videos and they really encouraged me to experiment with a marine set up myself. I've had a 115 gal fresh water set up for about 7 years because I was afraid of salt water woes. I'd like to thank you for your amazing videos.

  • GsKillz - that is the greatest compliment I could have possibly hoped for. That is EXACTLY why I did this video series. Thank you so much for your kind words. I had (have) a 45 gallon fresh water tank that I kept for a year and a half before I got up the courage to attempt saltwater. If you don't mind being patient and doing some weekly maintenance, it can be incredibly rewarding. Don't be afraid to try. If somebody as ignorant as myself can do it - ANYBODY can do it. Just look at gprime22 ;)

  • you have done an outstanding job two thumbs up

  • showtime, thank you for employing both of your thumbs to the benefit of the ratings for the video!

  • Wooo, why did it send twice??? I have no idea any way... Merry christmas and merry reefing'nn

  • Salt critters eBay store, that's were I got my acan and psp before, 15 ship and most corals end t around a dollar!!!!!!! I won all mine for .99 except for the monti and trachy 6.00 each!!!!!!!!! What a deal!!! They combine ship for auctions ending same day!!!!! They have excellent service!!!! Goodluck!!!!!!!!

  • Hi, can you kindly get back to me regarding getting marine things from ebay please I want to get into saltwater tank soo bad but money is always an issue so your help will be highly appreciated. Thanks

  • I got them from salt critters on eBay, they combine shipping on auctions ending on the same day, all are frags, I have gotten things like the acan, the pink star polyps, and the gsp from them before, the more you win, the less you pay, 15 for ship auctions start at 99 cents, I won all mine 99 cents !!!! Excep lt for the orange monti he was 6 good luck, I have had good luck with these guys before!!!!!!!

  • Hey tickle, good news , in honor of my crab and you, I just bought 3 green brain frags and a neon green blue trachy coral!!!! Plus 2 Monti's some zoo's a scroll coral, and 2 blue candycane corals!!!!!! All for 35 shipped I will do an update when it comes in the mail, and last week i Got a yellow tang!!!! He loves his 20l , and I will move him when he outgrows it. Thanks and merry Christmas !!!!!!

  • Holy monkey farts! Where did you get all that stuff at a price like that? I can't wait to see your updates ZurichOne. Happy holidays all up in you face as well!

  • so i got my nano up yesterday uploaded a really bad quality video though.....used my cell phone couldnt find my camera lol

  • thanks lol it helped :)

  • Looks great! Do you have any kind of sock filter or filter material in your sump or does the refugium dispose of any excess food particles and such? The fish look great!

  • jjschreck,

I am not using any sock filters - I don't know how I would be able to implement that in my current setup even if I wanted to. I am using one piece of filter sponge/foam that sits between the drain to the sump and the refugium. I rinse the sponge once a week, but that's all I have for mechanical filtration. I am basically relying on the live rock, refugium, an over powered protein skimmer, a clean up crew, and water changes to keep my tank clean. So far it seems to be working...

  • Tickleyourbrain, thank you soo much for your help, comments, and the GREAT NAME!!!!!!!!!! I love hermits, and in honor of you....... I:M GETTING A "BRAIN" coral, and name it tickle!!!!! thanks again 5 stars

  • Oh yeah, the names are so creative and staplegun is a great sidekick. Staplegun almost took a dive in the tank!! sooo funny. lol

  • Wow, your tank looks amazing man! Awesome job. Did the guy at the fish store hold your fish for you because I was always wondering if you were going to purchase new ones? Also, I didn't see your yellow tang. How's she doing? The aquascape actually turn out quite nice and glad to see everything back to how it used to look. Good stuff! Needless to say, keep us posted. I'm sure you'll do that lol

  • Thank you Mr. Prodigy (Any relation to BJ Penn?)

The friend held my fish because he is a great friend and we all knew they would die very soon without a foster home. The yellow tang (Wolley) is doing fine and is plenty fat. I haven't brought him home yet because he's the most aggressive fish in the tank and is constantly pushing Theodore around. I am actually thinking about letting him stay because the balance of the tank is so peaceful right now. Does that make me a bad fish dad?

  • I think you know what is best for the yellow tang and if putting him in there will cause havoc then it's probably better left alone. Hey, you get to see Theodore whenever you want, it's not like your taking him to the fish store for a 10yr old to buy as their first fish lol Hats off to you tickle now you get to go shopping for candy, I mean corals hehe I was thinking about getting a yellow in my 125g with several other tangs. Do they really get extremely aggressive? Advise/Experience appreciated

  • Thanks for the vote of confidence. I wouldn't shy away from adding a yellow to a 125 with other tangs. I think it's one of those situations where it depends on the personality of the individual fish. Wolley never picked on Smurfpaste, but maybe that's because Smurfpaste is so much smaller. It's not like he was always attacking Theodore, but it was more like a frequent annoyance - like a mosquito. Theodore would regularly get small tears in his fins - 1-3mm from Wolley's barb.

  • Yay!!! I'm so glad that there are fish in the tank!

  • As always staplegun is a great addition. tanks looking great man congrats.

I love your guys' creativity with naming your live stock its amazing, lol tits mcgee.(good one on your wife)

Cannot wait for future updates and i hope you achieve your goal of getting that mandarin :D

Also, just wondering if you can include a shot of the refugium in the next update. I'm really interested in how that's looking and what you've got in there, thanks (:

  • gprime22,

I passed along your observations to the wife and she was tickled that somebody appreciated the name - she actually named it in the store before we brought it home. Thanks for the well wishes on the mandarin.

As far as the refugium goes, it looks like the initial attempt at tiggerpod population didnt take. I hope to try again in a week or so. Beyond that, the refugium only conrtains a clump of growing cheato and 4 hermit crabs. I hope to add some cleaner clams soon. Vid will follow

  • FANTASTIC update, and awesom names for all the stock.

Your well thought out and conscientiousness work is certainly paying off. congratz on a great looking tank.

bel biv devoe! ... LOL ... love it!

  • Thankyou 1mwiet (I cannot possibly comprehend how to enunciate your name). I figured the tank needed some soul, not to mention funky dance moves. So Bell Biv Devoe to the rescue!

  • its one em-kay why-it....i think.... lol

  • 1m = leet speak for "I'm"

    kwiet = quiet

    1mkwiet = "I'm Quiet"

my bumper stumper kung fu skills > all others

but if you want to call me "1 m k wyatt" doesn't matter....

  • By the way, the compliments coming from you are particularly potent and flattering. I have been following your videos for some time now and your videos are exceptionally informative and inspirational. I have learned much from your series and you have influenced the way I approach my setup. Mad props to you homie.

  • btw what kind of anemone is that at 1:08

  • hotdoghee123,

Feel free to watch the video again. I annotated everything after I saw your post. Thanks for the kind words :)

  • aaaaaaaaahhhhhh their she is. its beautiful dude great job.

  • awesome tank... good to see it about finished... i cant wait to see some gorgeous lps and sps in that beast! excellent job with the videos, and your cat adds a great deal of character to the vids.

  • Thanks you eagleANTH. It will probably be sometime before I have any lps or sps worth showing. I am pretty ignorant in the ways of good coral husbandry (although I am doing my research). The little one is also consuming my coral budget for the forseeable future. I had been considering a calcium reactor to increase my chances. I'll be sure to post any interesting developments.
