Wow, Jane and her daughter Maureen look so much alike! I've seen pictures of Maureen from her lifetime, and I've only seen Jane as a young star, but I've never seen her in her 60's, so this is very interesting.
Jane Wyman doing essentially a "Just Say No" ad. I've always wondered if she spent the 80s wishing she could have been First Lady.
I never got that "At least I got my hair done" gag from the McNuggets commercial when I was a kid. I bet I'm not the only one whose head that went over.
USC would beat Stanford 10-0 the next day, but neither team made the Rose Bowl. Arizona State would be the Pac-10's representative that season.
i used to think the snuggles bear was a show, and i had all of the mckie d's halloween buckets and went trick or treating with em..back then all tv shows had halloween episodes !!!
re: the Snuggle bear, my mom actually called in to complain about the commercial for that video game Battletanx that parodied him in the late '90s, and i think they pulled it off the air soon after that (but because a lot more people than just my mother complained about it). why don't they snuggle bear anymore?
They don't show Ronald, the McBurglar, and the rest. Back then they were cute and fun for us kids, today's kids would see them as dorky and stupid!
MadTV made a hilarious parody of the Snuggle Bear, LOL! A teddy bear for fabric softner, yeah..... only in the 80s. LOL, today it's like, "Yeah I just put the damn liquid in and forget, because I don't have time to be sensually seduced by the soft laundry. While my kids are sexting with their iPhone!" LOL
me too (well it's my sister's)! i also have one of those glow in the dark trick or treat bags they gave out a few years later with frankenstein on it.
WTH ever happened to Ronald McDonald and all those other characters? They never have them anymore. Now all they've got are stupid commercials with that ghetto slogan "I'm lovin' it." I wish they'd get a better slogan already. I've had enough of "I'm lovin' it."
I think they're unofficially discontinued. The wikipedia article about the McDonaldland characters says that in 2007 McDonald's agreed to no longer advertise to children under 12 to combat childhood obesity.
Look, childhood obesity sucks, but sucking all the fun out of life isn't the solution to it.
And I couldn't agree more with you about "I'm Lovin' It".
I believe what happened is that the FCC relaxed its rules about advertising to children in 1982/83, and thusly we have all those kid-oriented commercials and thinly disguised 1/2 hour toy ads called cartoons of the mid/late 80's.
@Muggle423 The mascots for both MacDonalds and Burger King are gone. Btw I'm now defending ghettoness or anything but such slang really is more common among rednecks. Just sayin'
@UltraComboer The "I'm Lovin' It" campaign was specifically designed to appeal to the "urban" market. The song itself was performed by Justin Timberlake and released as a single, and IMO the style of the commercials themselves was heavily influenced by "8 Mile". It's possibly the most transparent example of targeted demographic marketing I've ever seen.
@Muggle423 Well Said. McDonald's Should Bring Back Either "It's A Good Time For The Great Of McDonald's"; "McDonald's And You"; "Nobody Can Do It Like McDonald's Can"; Or "Did Somebody Say McDonald's" Those Were My Favorite Slogans. These Are Way Better Than "I'm Lovin' It"
McDonalds ALWAYS makes me hungry every day, from the past to the present. I love that cool restaurant! I even love its history, too! Since Ronald hasn't been chenged since the 80s! ;-)
Love the old McDonaldland commercials and characters, shame we'll never see them again in anything new. REALLY weird Grimace suit in that last one though.
Ah~ that wonderful CBS Special bumper. I'll Never grow tired of seeing that.
Yeah, that was definitely Martin Sheen. He was also the one who said "Choice of a New Generation" in a bunch of Pepsi ads. I remember it used to creep me out as a kid, since I associated his voice with Apocalypse Now - something I saw way too early.
I have a vivid memory of the snuggle bear commercial when i was up visiting my grandfather. My cousin saw it come on the TV and she started laughing uncontrollably... i'll never forget it it was hysterical!
0:17 One of my most fond memories of commercials was this one! Thank you for digging it up! I was 3 years old and still have a strong memory of that time, my brother was born in January. McDonalds needs to get out of the Corporate Fog, and get back down to earth, everything now feels so drab and boring.

Snuggies are those bizarre blanket contraptions that look like cultist robes. You're thinking of Snuggle.
