pujols, Show me a single, known American Indian dance that looks like the chief's bullshit contortions. The American Indians who had lived in Illinois did not wear the buckskin and headdress of a Lakota. And no American Indian wore "war paint" like that. That was invented by Hollywood. And you show me the person who is a member of a contemporary American Indian community that likes this -- not some white person who thinks he has an American Indian grandmother five generations back.

There is no single dance that loos like it, because it has many different dance moves if you will in it. And yes I can show you Native Americans that like this, Florida State has the Indian mascot,,, not the U Of I. Everything about the Chief was authentic from the suit to the dance.

Florida State University worked with the Seminole Nation to remake their mascot. Originally, he was a hodge-podge of Hollywood bullshit, like the Chief. Now he is more authentic. No one at U of I worked with any member of any Indian nation located in or near Illinois.... And you are wrong about the dance. There are no native dance moves that look like the spastic ballet of the Chief. If you think there, point me to the video.

Wow. They got a whole fifty people to come out in support. When I was a student there, there were always drunk students tossing hot dogs at him during football games. That's what I call an honored symbol. And yeah, scott92507, it was always some white guy from the suburbs who'd never even seen a Native American dancing his little white feet off as the Chief. Such an embarrassment to anybody with a degree from U of I.

I do not understand the obsession with this mascot. The defenders of the mascot have said that it honors American Indians, but if that were true why are there no American Indians visible in this video? Everybody seems to be white. This whole obsession is a white, racist fantasy. And who could be inspired by such a stupid dance? It is as inspiring as the San Diego Chicken and about as culturally relevant.

Parade? you call that a god damn parade?? A mascot is something that "parades" around that plays with the crowd, Chief didnt do that, only once did that happen, and it was even the Chief. This dance is not a parade, its honoring the Native Americans that used to live in Illinois, not make fun of them. In Illinois the people with Indian ancestory like it, its the white people and others that want their name in the papers and on tv. Juju your the god damn embarrassment.
