@mmcharacter1 & @federicotedeschi - John Barrowman & George Hearn had a few duets in Stephen Sondheim's anthology musical called "Putting It Together". It was performed in LA and on Broadway in the 1998-2000 timeframe. There is an official dvd available called "Putting It Together" which can be ordered from the usual online stores (HMV, Amazon, Play.com, etc.).As I recall, George Hearn played Albin/Zaza in the original run of "La Cage aux Folles" on Broadway nearly 30 years ago.

but this is now one of my favorite show tunes, one that really means a lot to me, because this describes how i feel a lot. no, i'm not a guy that dresses up in drag, but i still find it hard to be myself sometimes. this song is a song people can relate with, and i know it's one i'll listen to on a day when i don't feel great about myself.

Great song for John as John, but he is not old enough to play zaza yet. when zaza looks in the mirror and says "this tired old face that I see" come on there is nothing tired about john. But that's show biz.

The other thing that bothers me. He is jumping around too much. This song is sung as Zaza has just been informed he is supposed to leave for the dinner party. He is heartbroken, defiant, and rejoicing in his own identity, surely, but not quite so energetic in a bouncy way.

I would agree completely with you if this were Zaza singing... but it isn't, it's John singing as (and about) himself. We haven't yet seen how he will sing it when he plays Zaza, when he's singing the song in the context of the story. I do agree that he may look too young to be a fading drag queen though, he's simply beautiful. We'll see...

great performance, although I'm used to Zaza having a deeper voice, which gives the song a different element. other than that, I love him. Look up George Hearn or Gary Beach doing the song. They are the original Zaza's from the OBC and Broadway revival.
