  • Richard Barbieri's synth rhythm is iconic even until today... Yeah I'm a Porcupine Tree fan too :)

  • 1st time i saw david play guitar to this - cool

  • This is from Oxford Road Show, a BBC 2 music show recorded at New Broadcasting House, on Oxford Road in Manchester between 1981 and 1985.

  • Excellent ! le son des années new-wave, merci pour la vidéo.

  • I remember still dancing to that in goth clubs in 90s London. Such a great song and he is just so ridiculously beautiful. ah to go back in time haha

  • im 42 and my daughter is 19. she loves japan and depeche mode, she was brought up listining to them and also talk talk. she often says to me that she would have loved to have been born in the 80s, to have a wedge haircut, dance like the girls from human leauge and to wear pixie boots !

  • @hickoryhouse :))) she has great taste!

  • @greensteph thanks! i'll take all the credit though!

  • that's so funny. I'm 43 and I wish my sons would give my music a chance (DD, Japan, Roxy Music, Bananrama, FB3, the Specials, Madness, TFF, the Police) they are 15 and 13 and are into RAP. I don't know what happened. they ask how this is music. I hope they'll come around someday. LOL

  • @nanalan86 well, if its any consolation, my daughter likes tiny tempah, olly murs and rizzle kicks as well, but im not being held responsible for that !!

  • @nanalan86 Try losing the bananarama.

  • Here we are stranded...... . if i ever learn't an instrument it would be fretless base in the Mick Karn style...... exotic......... like his hair too.....

  • Japan the forerunner toward Trance music and I salute them

RIP Mick Karn and I know its year too late but my heart goes out to his family and friends

  • 點解sylvian可以咁靚仔咁得意gar!!!!????不過少咗把吉他真喺唔夠喉lor成首歌~~~~mick好撚型ar哈哈

  • Or 2 maybe

  • Mick Karn, one of the best bass players to ever have walked this earth. R.I.P

  • Maybe now Mick Karn will gain more recognition as an amazing bassist. Shame how people do that to artists after they die.

  • 1 person wants shooting.....

  • Yeah, I can definitely see the influence they had on Duran Duran. Both great bands!

  • remember watching them at the apollo weeks after the oxford rd show was recorded live tho, sheer brilliance,a manc japan fan......

  • great song - great band Quiet Life was easily their best album, after Its my life.

  • seen them live 82 awesome

  • it doesnt matter who the artists are or who to compare them with they all have had an impact on music ,thats why theyre here in the first place!!!!!!

  • I remember The Melody Maker describing Japan as Duran Duran with a few more O'Levels. Probably about right after Tin Drum.

  • @ashmiles Yes and their two most influencial teachers at the school were called Mr Ferry and Mr Eno who I am sure are really proud of them !

  • @ashmiles i think duran duran - other than andy taylor - had education and of course le bon was at university. of course, back then, to get to university you had to be clever and of course now its for anyone.

  • @ashmiles haha LOL...but if only JAPAN had an album anything like near as good, complete and essentially a classic like RIo. indeed, you could count on two hands the bands who will have. Long live duran duran.

  • RIP Mick Karn the man who put fretless bass on the map in my book .

  • Pretty sure the intro to this song inspired the intro to Duran's "Planet Earth".

  • @DameHaha2011 I think alot of Japans work inspired Duran Duran, althouhg they ended up agps apart .

  • They had more style and class than the New Romantics who were mostly uncouth overdressed hooligans and talentless exhibitionists.

  • Too cool for words

  • i just did some research, and quiet life was released a tad before roxy music's manifesto. the three best japan albums were released in about a year and a half period. that is pretty cool don't you think? very creative talented people

  • I'm so sad that know Mick Karn died in past 4th January..i listen Japan from many years..I'm very sad..Rip Mick..any words in this situation in empty..

  • 480p must have been the best quality available back in 1982?

Are these clips from the band's own collection, taken directly from the master tapes? It's only in the last 5 or so years that we have moved up to 720 and 1080p.

  • They recorded this in 79 lol,so they where new romantics way before anyone else was not including Roxy Music.

  • Timeless........

  • Brilliant! Most underrated group of all the time.Love them.

  • OMG DS looking soooo happy...I reckon its to do with the little group of Japan fans in the audience which he possibly finds amusing..:)

  • @khyberkarn Or maybe he's amused by the fact that he's trying to mime Rob Dean's guitar parts.

  • @GonzoHenson Ha! Very good

  • David is sooo gorgeous.

  • RIP Mick Karn - the only man ever to make the fretless bass seem like a good idea.

  • @KingOfBev See Mingus, Charles, Entire career of

  • @TallFastLoud That'd be the double bass... look it up. Anyway, the point was to say goodbye to Mick, show some respect.

  • @KingOfBev There are many others but he was good!

  • RIP Nick Karn. He was awesome on Bass. He look so Cool with his Lime Green Suit.
