It can work, simply have the computer hooked to a printer so that the voter receives a paper receipt that is carboned. One copy goes into ballot box the other to the voter, after they review it is correct. That being said, why have the machines? a)Because it would provide a check and balance system when coupled with the paper receipts. b) A voter can be confident his vote will be counted as he placed it. A very wise man once said "Voters don't decide elections, Vote counters do".

If you see "Hacking Democracy" there are many ways to hack the machines as well as the software including embedding a simple .exe on the memory cards which will produce skewed results BEFORE the votes even get fed into the machine that tabulates them.

The only way to test the code it to inspect the source code, or set up each machine to operate under the exact voting condition - both of these things are not done.

On my computer I have a copy of GEMS software used in many voting machines. Using MSAccess2003 I was able to hack the database file used to store the votes cast. In a matter of seconds, I was able to replace the accurate database file and skew the results. Many voting machines are connected to a central server via TCP/IP but results are not transferred as votes are cast, but are tabulated by election official, then sent on to the server, either electronically or by disk. It is entirely possible.
Further, we've all gotten viruses on our computers; if I can do it, then someone with more hacking knowledge than I can easily break a simple 4 digit password over TCP/IP? The only things standing between the database file and someone wanting to skew an election is a 4 digit pin. We're told to have better passwords on our yahoo accounts! The 'hackers' that changed votes in 2000/2004 were not 'students', they were pros working for darker forces. Do some research before assuming it's all paranoia.
TCP can be very secure, that is the standard. Do you think the government would allow such low standards to say, accesssing military satalites?
All IP's can be logged on a machine, then of a users has dynamic DHCP (such as many cable providers) it can be cross referenced to the IP's logs for a time stamp and then to the user, for prosecution.
Also diebold installs a large amount of point of sales. (I know I install them). They do not have such low standards on those.
Don't get me wrong I do believe something sinister is afoot. It's just the way fox presented the issue. They know if someone looked into it they would find the results were tampered, so they make it look like some kids are responsable.

It can work, simply have the computer hooked to a printer so that the voter receives a paper receipt that is carboned. One copy goes into ballot box the other to the voter, after they review it is correct. That being said, why have the machines? a)Because it would provide a check and balance system when coupled with the paper receipts. b) A voter can be confident his vote will be counted as he placed it. A very wise man once said "Voters don't decide elections, Vote counters do".

There was nothing "mysterious" about the recount. A republican P.A. investigated the election results and found nothing wrong.
All the votes that were counted were proven to be valid.

It is actually easier than what this geek demonstrates (geeks rule BTW). If you see "Hacking Democracy" there are many ways to hack the machines as well as the software including embedding a simple .exe on the memory cards which will produce skewed results BEFORE the votes even get fed into the machine that tabulates them.

It is a fact that Diebold is a radical, right-wing fascist; he will do ANYTHING to "save" the "republic." It is quite easy to disguise software logic so that it keys off of certain events that occur in actual voting situations. When the event(s) occur, control goes to certain sections of code that cheat for Republicans. The only way to test the code it to inspect the source code, or set up each machine to operate under the exact voting condition - both of these things are not done.

On my computer I have a copy of GEMS software used in many voting machines. Using MSAccess2003 I was able to hack the database file used to store the votes cast. In a matter of seconds, I was able to replace the accurate database file and skew the results. Many voting machines are connected to a central server via TCP/IP but results are not transferred as votes are cast, but are tabulated by election official, then sent on to the server, either electronically or by disk. It is entirely possible.

The only things standing between the database file and someone wanting to skew an election is a 4 digit pin. We're told to have better passwords on our yahoo accounts! TCP can be very secure, that is the standard. Do you think the government would allow such low standards to say, accesssing military satalites?
All IP's can be logged on a machine, then of a users has dynamic DHCP (such as many cable providers) it can be cross referenced to the IP's logs for a time stamp and then to the user, for prosecution.
Also diebold installs a large amount of point of sales. (I know I install them). They do not have such low standards on those.
