@stugmann91 It wasn't the quality(size of gun, thickness of armour etc) that mattered to the Allies, they had the technology to produce such guns and armour, what mattered to the US,UK & USSR was QUANTITY, not quality and that's why we won the war, we overran the Germans with more tanks than they could possibly cope with, plus a hundred other factors, such as, better trained soldiers: the "Volkssturm" old men and boys were no match for the well-trained young men of the Allied armies.

If Russia could attack Poland along with Germany, attack Finland, take the Baltic States, fight Japan in Manchuria in summer of 1939, why couldn't it be ready for Germany when its attack was clear as day it would happen? But it only took the Russians 2 years to rebuild their army and by 1943 they were battering the Germans all over the place. The Russians were tough soldiers, letters sent home to their families by the German soldiers at Stalingrad testify to this.

Eccept to say, the germans defeated mostly conscripts on the outset of the war in USSR, but when confronted with well-trained hardened Russians, as with the Siberian Army ( which destroyed the German armies near Moscow in the winter of 1941), the german soldier was seen in his true colours:somewhat ordinary and not such a great warrior.

Also the US provided military protection so that ur countries did not have to divert its treasuries to defense. @stugmann91 It wasn't the quality(size of gun, thickness of armour etc) that mattered to the Allies, they had the technology to produce such guns and armour, what mattered to the US,UK & USSR was QUANTITY, not quality and that's why we won the war, we overran the Germans with more tanks than they could possibly cope with, plus a hundred other factors, such as, better trained soldiers: the "Volkssturm" old men and boys were no match for the well-trained young men of the Allied armies.

I saw the movie in my high school years when it first came out on the big screen, before the days of VHS and DVD, and yes, it was an awsome experience when a "Tiger Tank" blew up a "Sherman Tank".
However, watching it on Blu Ray 40 years later, it became unconvincing when a battle was fought on a desert around Christmas. Er, may be a "Sherman Tank" could only be half damaged by a "Tiger Tank"? Anyway I still like Robert Shaw's acting as "bad guy".

This film is JUST another Bull Shit from Hollywood --- the most historically inaccurate WWII movie of all times (next to John Wayne's "Flying Tigers"). In the middle of Eurpean Winter, the tanks battle was being fought in a hot desert with no snow in sight.
Burning Tiger tanks with gasoline drums at the end? The producers got to be kidding little boys. In actual fact, these German Tanks were pulverized by Allied planes.

If Russia could attack Poland along with Germany, attack Finland, take the Baltic States, fight Japan in Manchuria in summer of 1939, why couldn't it be ready for Germany when its attack was clear as day it would happen? @McDago100 You haven't read history have you. In the late 30s, the Soviet High command was decimated by Stalin's purges, so when Hitler invaded in 1941it fell apart. But it only took the Russians 2 years to rebuild their army and by 1943 they were battering the Germans all over the place. The Russians were tough soldiers, letters sent home to their families by the German soldiers at Stalingrad testify to this.

Most russians are peasants with modern weapons. Proof that they were better soldiers in WW2: I would site the 12 to 1 kill ratio in men and 6 to 1 kill ration on equipment as proof that they were better, Of course, I'm just a retired military officer so my opinion probably isn't too valid to you. .

Eccept to say, the germans defeated mostly conscripts on the outset of the war in USSR, but when confronted with well-trained hardened Russians, as with the Siberian Army ( which destroyed the German armies near Moscow in the winter of 1941), the german soldier was seen in his true colours:somewhat ordinary and not such a great warrior.

Also the US provided military protection so that ur countries did not have to divert its treasuries to defense. In other words the USA made u competitive with itself but without the burden of having to protect urselves. The Soviet industry was intact also because they moved it out of Germany's reach.

I'm a history major in college and some people are right on and some should be sent back to school. sure some movies are inaccurate but they are for entertainment. I loved the comment below that hitler never declared war on the US. In all actuallity he sent the nations like Austria a memorandum and then invaded (not a declaration of war) in Poland he made it look like they attacked a German radio station then he invaded. but USA was the only nation he ever officially declared war on.

The US did supply Russia with material but not the fight and there were adjustments made in Soviet manufactures which were moved back towards Siberia. The Soviets were noted for the utility of their ordinance not its high tech. They were also aided by the hubris of Hitler who foolhardedly decided to invade totally oblivious to the realities elsewhere in the war.

There would have been quite a distance for the USA to take part in the fighting in Russia; the Russians had ONE front to take care of, the Americans two (Europe and the Pacific).

The ships that took all those huge amounts of supplies to the ports of the Kola peninsula were american and british, manned by american and british crews, escorted by american and british warships and constantly in the sight of the U-boots' periscopes. The Germans couldn't accomplish a landing on England across the Channel, let alone the thousands miles width of the Atlantic Ocean. If England enjoyed a "splendid isolation", the USA had an even better one. The Germans were "against 104 different nations" because THET put themselves againstthem - foolishly followed by Italy.

It was a pure and useless formality: FDR declared war to show the USA: did not behave like Japan. A coalition had already been in existence since two years (GB and France, early Sept 1939; USSR, June 22, 1941). The state of war followed, automatically, the alliances. The exception was Italy, that was dragged into war by that idiot, Mussolini, without any need for it.
