Scrap Metal is one of the pieces Pat never recorded. I am glad everytime i hear it at a concert. The part we see in the video is just a solo out of this masterpiece. Hope to see the PMG soon in germany.
After watching this, I think Dana Carvey must have used Pat Metheny as inspiration for his character Garth in Wayne's World. That hair and laid-back, tight-lipped, "values" of the Mid-west.
Only Pat Metheny could do something utterly stupid and unmusical and make music doing it. Unfortunately I think this is something Pat enjoys doing more that anyone enjoys listening, guitar queers notwithstanding.
I heard on a Secret Story Tour gig in 1993 a tune that he played an acoustic guitar and made very noisy sound some times by cracking the metal strings so hard. It was untitled and totally different from Zero Tolerance. This video solo reminds me of it.
Yeah it's called, "Zero Tolerance For Silence." I have it and I would not buy it if I were you. I thought it was a joke or just something he needed to get out. He said that the idea was to do a 2 dimensional view of his music by taking away the element of pitch. That's why in the PM songbook it describes it as "Monochromatic" language. Interesting but not something I want to listen to all the time.
pat made a recording of something similar to the middle of this segment it was cant stand the silence or something i should buy it now that i see how serious i should have taken it hes just jacking around but it is structured i didnt look at it that way before sounds like some bill frisell stuff or something but its pat
