  • toko...this is a special place for my dad...where he was born and raised...he was bought up with his 12 siblings in the now backpackers house...then they moved down to waima where his younger brother still lives.......

  • Man...went back a couple of years ago...got in at about 7am and the locals don't even know who you are but wave while their on their morning walk. The shop opens about 9ish...closes about 4ish...the pub is right on the beach front...the horses graze past the front window of our whare and the kids follow on their one skate board...one crying for a turn the other laughing cos he has it!!

    this place is one paradise on the east coast of NZ that always calls for our wairua to return!! Waima!!

  • Brought up in Opotiki and East Cape, Runaway and Tokomaru/Tolaga Bay were regular stomping grounds on many holidays. Tokomaru Bay was always the best somehow. Maisey's voice makes you just melt with pride and appreciation for a great Maori voice. Awesome and I must admit a small tear for former good times.

  • kia orana jade i was at the 75th jb we stayed at matakai lounge with our beautiful fams although we are not maori's we are from the beautiful island of mauke and are direct secendants of paikea it was an awesome time tokomaru bay is a split image of mauke from itts beaches to its homes. love it and well done on the vid

    that was beautiful Jade..my family and i are from takitumu in the cook islands..we come to tokomaru's marae across from the beach sometime early this year for the 75th jubilee..etc it was absolutely beautiful and so many people from the cook islands and all over new zealand joined our family gathering there!
