  • Although this is a good version, and I'll probably be in the minority, but I prefer Dave Loggins' original.

  • This has always been 1 of my fav. Nearly 50 now but this reminds my of youthful days.

  • I thought Dave Loggins wrote this song. It's truly a beautiful song, and I don't think anyone will do this song justice like Danny, Chuck & Cory did. I always thunk of my Mom when I hear it as she passed away in April, and we were "mourning in May".. Thank You for writing the song, and for posting the video. Peace.

  • @dragonflygurl4u Be sure and listen to Dave's original

  • love it, always have. thanks....

  • this song always has been my favorite of 3 Dog Night...it is hauntingly beautiful....the lyric's are just brilliant!!!!! my husband and I were married in April, and he died in May 8 years later...I can relate to this song in a way makes all the memories come alive for me...thank you ,Dave Loggins for writing this song.....and many thanks to 3 Dog Night for bringing it to life....

  • I went through this loss 45 years ago, lost her, married another--time went on she passed away with cancer 2+ years ago--then all alone--decided to find my first--I did, we have been together now for 1 1/2 years now---yes, to find the first we change---Thank God I love her in a much different way now--I have my April in May, and I listen to this song 3-4 time per week. Beautiful !!!!

  • We no time for sadness! God bless Chuck!

  • Ohmygosh, I forgot about this being a TDN song, it's one of my absolute favs and I haven't heard it in years...beautiful!

  • Thank you so much for this

  • One of my favorites!

  • wiping some tears..remembering..young age

  • ...wiping some tears..heavenly..

  • @imoldyoung......couldn't have said it better myself........in my opinion, this is one of their best......

  • I was a little kid and heard this song and I cried--it is probably the most beautiful song I have ever heard and I want to thank you Davy boy-- you outdid yourself on this one

  • great song

  • This is a song that my husband heard while we were still dating. Had to be in early 1973 sometime. We started dating in March of 1971, we went to the zoo for Good Friday, April 9th, there he asked me to "go steady", I said yes. We later went to our Junior Prom which was later in April. In July of 1973 it became a going steady to an engagement.

  • still one of my favorites..40 years later

  • This is the kind of song that makes you want to close your eyes and go back in time. The 70s were such a good time to live and grow up in. This song brings a tear to my eyes every time I listen to it...

  • WE ALL HAVE PIECES OF APRIL....MEN AND WOMEN

  • WE ALL HAVE PIECIES OF APRIL.........

  • WONDERFUL VIDEO...............

  • LISTEN TO MIKE ALLSUPS GUITAR PLAYING.............

  • We should always remember the sweet pieces of our yesterdays. But we can't keep living in the past.

  • @celtdoggy

why not? all we own as humans IS our past

  • I rediscovered this song by chance (because I was always a fan in the 70's). To me this song is very touching and a rediscovery of myself. I lost my husband of 31 year to cancer 2 years ago and have since rediscovered my first love from Jr. high and high school. So for me this song means I have pieces of my husband (my pieces of April) but it also means I have a morning in May (a chance to move on and be happy).

  • remember-----when you tell someone you love them ! know what you are saying a broken heart takes time to heal and time belongs to each---time and love, that is all

  • Always loved this song....brings back a lot of memories...other comments so true...we all have pieces of April.

  • Someone very special to me just died unexpectedly at a very young age. This song is helping me to come to grips now, at least a little bit.

  • ABSOLUTLEY, GEORGEOUS

  • i heard this song when i was a very small child my aunt had the three dog night album i must have been 6 or seven years old and my two songs were going in circles and pieces of april now that i am 40 it is ever more beautiful to listen to now

    thanks for the music

  • One of my all time favorites. Brings back lots of memories, and almost a tear.

  • I thought I found my "May", but she only wanted to get her groove on, and shattered my heart in the process. Sometimes I wonder if I'm the only one in this World that can really love someone unconditionally...?

  • This is my favorite song of all time. Thank you so much for posting it.

  • Beautiful song.

  • WE ALL KNOW AN APRIL WE MET

  • WE ALL HAVE PIECES OF APRIL

  • I knew a lady named April that I met in 69. She was in Detroit headed for Boston. My friend Sonny told me she was the one the song was written about, and she was such a beautiful woman, I never doubted him. She had a smile that never went away, always happy in apearrance.

  • i worked at the William Morris Agency in the rock dept. in the '70's and we handled these guys, and they were as nice as this song....i asked, where their name came from and they said in places like Alaska when it gets really cold people sleep with three dogs for warmth. Since we handled them i got to see almost every show they ever did in N.Y. and Jersey and live, talk about commanding a stage, these people commanded the stage and the freaikin' audience! ~free cee!~freepoetry@att.net 4 poetry

  • Wow, this is very beautiful.. the song and your video. Thank-you for posting this :)

  • Draihill, your post pretty much says it all for me to. I`ll be 59 in march, and the older I get the more meaning songs like this have. Wow! They were the good ole days!!!

  • draihill summed it up best for me. Amen Dude!!

  • It is a really beautiful song, but it is very sad. I also think that the memory that he has of the woman is really an illusion. What he is really attached to is the feeling of sadness and longing that is evoked by his memory of the relationship. At the end of the day she did abandon him (and ladies he did abandon you) so why honor her/him for that? Love God, love life and love yourself first....

  • Its amazing to me how after all these years there are people just like me, who LOVED this song. I love this channel because it brings it all back! I used to play this on my record player over and over because it really spoke to me! Wonderful!!!

  • yep, she's gone... i've been tossing and turning for many nights now. god bless her.

    thanks for posting

  • Forty years have passed for me as well since I first heard this song, Much has come and gone during that time, yet this song will remain forever in my heart. Thank you Chuck, Danny and Cory.

  • In 1981 I was only 18 living in Guam I had prayed and asked God for a daughter....I delivered a 6lb 7oz baby girl on the Island of Guam in February...this song played as if it had just been written...April is 30 now. This song will FOREVER PRERCE MY HEART AND BRING ME JOYFUL TEARS everytime I hear it! I love you for it!

  • Oh the memories ... still get those 'chills' up and down my arms when listening to this most beautiful of songs. Sigh ...

  • Absolutely agree!! Great songs like this are not being recorded today. I've chosen this song to perform at my church fundraiser. It truly is a classic.

  • I think its a great shame people today have stopped writing the beautiful love songs we had in the sixties and seventies. I think it really made the country happier to turn on the radio and hear music that made you want to fall in love.. :)

  • I've always loved this song. I'm sorry to hear that such heartache created it....

  • beautiful song brings back so many memories

  • IS YOUR SOUL FREE??????????????????????

  • I might have just found my May... Only problem is, I'm still with my April. I hope this turns out like I want. It's mental and emotional torture...

  • maybe the sweetest love song ever written it gives everybody chills

  • This is one of our favourite songs during my courtship days with my girlfriend and later my wife...it's sure bring back old memories. Thank you 3 Dog Night for a lovely song!

  • This was one of the song that my girlfriend and I use to play over and over during our courtship days. She end being my wife....thanks for the memories

  • This song came out while I was in H.S., when I met my first girlfriend. I don't know what happened to you Jodi, but best wishes...

  • you have touched my heart through out my years, soul of tender loving men, who needed love so deep im a woman who experienced many moments with your songs thank you supersherry25@yahoo.com

  • amazing vocals amazing band.. go chuck..

  • I'm probably one of the few who slightly prefers Dave Loggins' original version. This one was great too though.

  • @lobo81865 You're one of the very few, sometimes the original is better BUT TDN did an awesome job on this!!

  • 3 Dog Night songs are all over my facebook page from me and others who enjoy your music and share where they were at that time. Reading your note above, I wish I had known a love like that.

  • Takes me back to my first date to the Jr. Prom. My date's Jr Prom theme song was 'Pieces of April' ohh memories!

  • You picked the perfect voice for this song. I am trying to get a good buch of friends to sing this live locally. It is an all time favorite of mine.

  • Sometimes it hurts, emotionally, to time travel - because that's what this song does to me - sometimes it doesn't.

  • OMG Brings tears to my eyes!. Me 16 years old when this song came out! Loved it!!

  • somebody keeps shutting me down

  • love it..........thanks for posting!

  • One of my all time favourite Three Dog Night songs ( that was never heard on the radio). Give Chuck's a voice a listen...and please sail away to some pleasant dreams) (It was written by Dave Loggins) PEACE.

  • We played this after we buried our Arabian mare awhile ago. Damn I miss that old girl.

    Thanks for posting this classic.

  • This song always take me back to my childhood...brother and I sitting in our bedroom where we spent alot of time listening to vinyls...this song is one we heard and always remains in our fond memories.

  • an awesome band and i love this song...brings me back to a time in my life when i had someone very, very special and i lost him.memories are great, and also a good cry!

  • nice video to go to a great song ... thanks

  • Good to keep in touch with human emotions, even if they're someone else's at the time.

    Very sweet song.

  • Here's another pretty 3 Dog tune...

  • I had a similar romance and this song still makes me feel all the same feeling when we were in love. I'm 66 now and don't know where he is.

  • I lived through the 70's listening to this fantastic group. Chuck Negron has one of the greatest voices to sing love songs. It makes my heart melt every time I hear this song. It was my senior prom theme. Very precious and dear to me. Thankyou guys. for my greatest decade.

  • This song always had a significant meaning. During the angst of growing up as a teenager. Singing along with the radio on some long cold lonely nights. Now, well my mom died in early April. So here it is May and I hold her like a memory bouquet in my heart. I took years and years to learn to play guitar, keyboards, and such...and now when I sing and play this song...I think about my mom, and all the flowers she planted and all that's left is a memory. I thought this song was SAD. then.

  • @batfroman It's tough losing a parent. Then, top it off with the timing like you had duirng which you lost your mother. I don't even know you, but you have my sympathy 5 months later. I guess listening to this song from my youth brings the raw emotions to the surface.

  • I believe you are one of the greatest song writers in this world and this song means so much to me. my grandson past away at 20 months. we spent most of april together, and he died may 13 2006 mothers day, and when I got the call he left us this song was playing on the juke box. where I worked,

  • Thanks Dave and Three dog night, great tune!

  • One of my husbands favorite songs ever. He never knew why you wrote the song till this evening...wow! Such love, so lovely a song! Thanks so much...loved the video! God Bless...

  • Dave, thanx for makin' a personal post, here. The Dog's version hit #19 in Billboard, 1-13-73. God bless ya, Dave, for this song. Thanx!

  • You have madea great video

  • this is the most underrated group of all-time.this song is a big reason why.

  • i am 53 years old and without a doubt in my mind;3 dog night is the most underrated group of all-time.

  • Nice video!

  • david i actually was by your place about 15 byears ago in california and i just want too say that your music got me thru some rough times as a teen and still very curent lyrics today thanks you still make me smile .sue

  • VERY VERY Nice.

  • SO GLAD YOU WROTE THIS..IT REMINDS ME OF A VERY DEAR FRIEND THAT PASSED AWAY YEARS AGO...WE BOTH LOVE THIS SONG...BEAUTIFUL!!

  • In school I couldn't approach April for various reasons. She kept giving me hints. I know she used to be a DJ at an FM station sometime years ago. She was 18 & I was old enough to know better. I've wanted to say this to you April: I loved you then & always will.

  • This is such a memory song and to me it was their best......It is still beautiful .......

  • This is such a memory song, it still can break my heart.....To me it was there best and is still beautiful.........

  • This has always been one of my favorites,It is more than just a love song.It is song related t peace.I was twelve when I first heard it and one of the stormiest chapters in my life was now over. My dad had just died and he was finally at peace.May God rest His tortured soul.

  • I usually put this song on my main website at the end of April.

  • Pieces of April was the theme of my junior prom in 1977. The band that was supposed to play at our prom broke up a couple of weeks before the prom, so they got another band to play. But the new band didn't have time to learn this song before the prom, so we never heard the prom theme at the dance. Every time I hear this song, I think of my junior prom.

  • Three Dog Night gas always been one of my favorite groups and one of the first 8-tracks I had at that time.

  • I love this song and the words touch my soul like no other.

  • Beautiful. Especially knowing where it came from. Most men don't share themselves like that. But, the LOML did, back in April of '86 & '87. I was the fool who left, however. No other reason, than to live my dream of traveling X-country. 'Love' let me go. But when I returned, it was gone. I returned in the 4th April. Somehow believing we could still be. FOOL! It's never been matched. My pieces remain too. At least I had it, once. Thanks for capturing it in such a touching song, forever.

  • GREAT SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!! to bad it wasn`t a big hit because it should have been!

  • One of the greatest songs ever.

  • beautiful music,beautiful video

  • ohhh, woww! i've always loved this song since i was a kid. it was new then. but, i never heard the bittersweet story behind it.

  • THANKS again for this great video with the words and flowers.....this was the first love song for my girlfriend and I when we were young in school...we were going to get married with this song playing when I got back from Vietnam but she married a "buddy" of mine and I got a "DearJohn" letter......now 30+ years later when we do see each other now one of us will ask "do you ever listen to "Pieces Of April" and the reply is always yes.....

  • Beautiful tune , Mr. Loggins. I played drums in a journeyman band in the late 80's ,and one of our regular gigs was Augusta Country Club. I remember seeing you there once,: some of the highballs were picking on you about not wanting to wear a necktie...thought it hilarious. Our guitarist and myself saw you and exchanged "hellos" and I've always remembered that evening.

You are a talented composer and meeting you was a brief but memorable moment I'll never forget.Hope all is wll w/ you.

  • The First Concert I went to was Three Dog Night in 1971

  • Thank you Dave -- a very special song to me !! Her name wasn't April

but the pieces remain -- I will never get over her either -It was also our song !

Big heavy Sigh ! True love never dies !

  • GREAT VIDEO!! THANKS FOR THE HARD WORK!!

  • Underated band. Great music.

  • What beautiful memories from Dave Loggins. He's not alone when it comes to the "girl that got away". Oh, how I wish we had time machines!

    God Bless!

  • Lovely song. I think I liked this best of all of Three Dog Night's songs-and their music was all over the radio back in those days-and I remeber it well from when I was a little kid.

  • Those are beautiful visuals, to go along with a beautiful song. I love that stunning blue rose.

  • My Father dies on April 29,1979 and was buried on May 1 , Mayday was his favorite day. On the day he died this played on the radio, you did not hear it often, and returning from his funeral this was playing again on the radio. I figured it was from him and I always think of him when I hear it and I continue to celebrate Mayday(Beltane)

  • very peaceful and beautiful!

  • I have always loved this song, but it was very special for my soul mate & I. We were going to have it sung at our Wedding in one April. But it never came, he was killed in a semi accident the February before. It was years before I could hear it without crying. It's been 27 yrs this February & now I can smile hearing it. Thank you for the beautiful video, as well. :)

  • One of the most beatiful song, LOVE the harmonies at the end of this song!

  • Jeffrey Dahmer once said this was his favorite song!

  • Always one of my favorites, brings me back

  • The two most beautiful songs done by Three Dog Night - this one and "Out In The Country"!

  • I heard this on the radio the other night and had no idea who wrote it. Thanks so much, beautiful song.

  • This is from an album called Seven Seperate Fools.

These guys were as powerful as the Moody Blues...

but this song??? this song has stayed with me since I had first heard it.

    forty years have passed.

    what sublime power

  • @s6u6r6f6 "what sublime power"-- i like that

  • chuck was tdk! amazingly this band did all covers. why could they not write their own music when they had so much talent?

  • best song by them, that noone realy knew

  • great 70s love song very underrated 70s band

  • Thank you for this beautiful video, one of my favorite songs.

  • None of you understand at all. Are their any of you that have any idea what this song is about? The words would be senseless without the key. "it must be them"....Who are them? "A time meant for us"...Who is "us"? I am now growing old and have nothing. At sunrise on the eighth day of May of the year 1968 a man nobody knows wrote this song in memory of Laura Nyro who was with him when the "gift" was given to them on April 22,1968. Robert Johnson died on 8-16- 1938 and They waited for Chris.

  • It had been decades since I listened to this beautiful tune. It still gives me chills and memories as a teenager. I had to wipe a tear. Thank you so much for posting.

  • so so sweet....really smooth. vid is awesome.

  • Great song BY Dave Loggins!!! Awesome songwriter!! It almost didn't make it to the album that 3DN was recording!! They needed two more songs and this was one of them.

  • Always have loved this song, from the first day I heard it.

  • One of the great songs about looking back at a relationship that did not work out. We all have them.

  • @nutsaboutclara I remember winning the Soap Box Durby for our Cubscout troop with a car, of course, made and weighted by my father. I remember that summer, that year. That space of loving forgetful future, now so mornfully come to pass. This is now a remembrance to all of hope, and for me a way to hope for future "aprils". This song is meaningful to me and one I like to sing, when I'm alone. And no one is awake and can hear me. beauty and peace. THANK YOU!

  • It's great to see no negative votes on such a beautiful song. Chuck was alone on this song to fill an album up. What a song to finish with.

  • Saw 3DN last year in concert and they could have played for 4 hours easy! Tons of great music! Thanks for the upload and video- great job!

  • @skidoojoe2002 Congratulations buddy. Tell me. Was it all three ORIGINAL members or was it just Danny Hutton, Corey Wells and some other dudes cuz the last few times they've been in El Paso, it's been Danny and Corey and some other dudes. Chuck Negron came to El Paso BY HIMSELF with other dudes proclaiming himself "The Voice of 3 Dog Night". He was ok but Corey and Danny put on a better show. Love all of their music. Hope some day all 3 "ORIGINAL" members tour the country again. I'd love 2 c it.

  • Saw Three Dog Night in the 70's as part of a show featuring Jessie Colin Young and the Youngbloods, Billy Preston, and Eric Clapton. What a memory. Thanks for re-igniting it.

  • LOVE three dog night.....a great group - such a diverse and soulful sound.....great song......music today doesn't hold a candle to 60s and 70s motown and rock and roll - just a morning in 2010 devoid of ONE DECENT GENRE OF MUSIC....THANKS SO MUCH FOR POSTING....

  • ,,music today is not even music, it's just sound produced for advanced thinking executives trying to make as much money and hype as possible till it burns itself out and the next fad comes along, people will always be the true judges of song, not industry.

  • HI Dave -

This song takes me back to my deejay days. We had a listener who would call in and request this song 2 or 3 times a week. She became a good friend and loyal listener. It's a good memory... and a great song.

  • beautiful song I am thinking of my husband who passed away in jan of 2009.

  • @luvperry08 Sorry for you lose, this song is so beautiful and glad it brings good thoughts to you.

  • This is one of the two most beautiful love songs ever. The other in (in my opinion) is "Little Green Apples" by O.C. Smith.

  • this video is trippy....

  • You hardly ever heard this song on the radio it has always been a favorite of mine. When my father was dying and I was going to get my brother so he could say good-bye this was playing on the radio (Apr.29,1979) and on the way to the cemetery it was playing again (May1,1979) I like to think it was my father telling me he would always be around. And May Day was his favorite day of the year.

  • @KerrySidheSeer WOW! What a nice story about your Dad. Yes, he's still around, just like my Dad is always right beside me. I just know that is TRUE! There is so much more around us that we can't see, but we feel.

  • thanks for sharing. . one of the best song ever recorded. . .in my opinio. .

  • beautiful video................beautiful song..........they just keep sounding better each and every day :)

  • Love this video, this is our song. We married Oct. 27, 1973 and are still together. this song would play during the months we were falling in love.

  • Thanks for the upload! I was a big TDN fan back in the day. A very dear friend reminded me of this one recently. I have to agree it was one of their best. I carry around many 'pieces of April' in my heart and mind!

  • Had an old 8 track that had this on it, fell in love with the sound. Still wonderful after all these years...

  • thanks for the video and the song. chuck negron has a great voice and i have always loved Three Dog Night. sure brings back good memories. and one particular young lady

  • What an awesome song!!! Unbelievable it did not make thier Greatest Hits CD

  • @BudIce05 I believe 3 Dog has a number of greatest hits cd's.You just have to find the right one.

  • Three Dog Night will always remind me of the love of my life. Joe and I made love the first time listening to this song. 14 years after breaking up, this song still makes me cry.

  • what a great song... : )

  • This is my very favorite song. WOW! Thank you to whomever put it on here.

  • Can't wait to seem them in july ^_^

  • Three Dog Night made a good transition form the sixties to the seventies. Not really to bridge the gap but to kick it up a notch. They had huge airplay on AM radio while FM was still in its infancy garnering groups Like Led Zep, Frost, MC-5, Jefferson Airplane amongst others. But TDN stayed true on what I call the Dick Clark timeline of rock-n-roll. A lot of their songs hold special meaning for me.

  • i was named after this song, lol

  • @missbunnyhavok how lucky you are to be named after such a beautiful song, I bet you're a beautiful woman just like the song.

  • This is a lovely lovely song that makes me feel melancholy.. Actually, downright sad..!!

Lost a child in July and I remember her last pieces of April ... It is her July

memories kept in a memory bouquet...

    Love you sweet baby

  • This was astonishingly beautiful.

  • To April.... Because I LOVE Her So Much! <3 <3 <3

  • nice

  • Poco does a beautiful version of this song also.
