Launching unit, $125,00 , the actual rocket, $80000, now imagine those costs when thousands of soldiers qualify with those every year. Quite expensive, so this is just the launcher with a dummy rocket.

@staszekalkatraz The Javelin system has a styrofoam computer monitor in front ( his head is close because hes looking in at the screen) and a tube on the far side that detaches so one launched you take the computer portion but leave the tube and get a new one thats preloaded. Because the shooter is so close, there are 2 motors, 1 gets the rocket out of the tube about 12 meters then the second kicks in delivering it to its target.

Pretty sure they're right on site, right after they've rolled away. One of those "aw crap..." moments and happy they're not burnt by a delay in the rocket motor to ignite.

As a troop I've been on more than a few ranges where stuff goes wrong, it's dangerous as Hell, and me and my peers have avoided serious injury,...but instead of falling into a nervous fit you end up laughing instead. That is not a Javelin missile. Javelins are shoulder fired, and they have a soft eject system, meaning it flies out without igniting. They rolled out the way when it didn't ignite, which wouldn't make sense if it was a javelin, because they don't ignite for a couple of seconds anyway.

They were laughing because of a sudden increase in stress. Laughing is a way of releasing tension. They launched something that could easily explode and kill them all...and it failed. Danger was very apparent.

Actually Daishi they weren't in any danger of it exploding. The warhead doesn't arm until it reaches a certain airspeed so as to prevent an explosion if the launch is failed, just like this. Ofcourse anyone even armed with this knowledge would still run because that's just how people react to that stuff, but they certainly were in no danger.

Not particularly. The majority of rockets systems have a minimum arming distance that they have to travel after being fired in order to explode. It's for reasons just like this one, as well as preventing the platoon idiot from firing it at something that's 15 feet away.
