independent labels, Orange juice, pastels, field mice, talulah gosh, housemartins etc have been forgotten. its understandable that, without the money from a major keeping them in the public eye they'll gradually disappear, but as a country we have so much alternative media, 6music, nme etc and its doing nothing to counterbalance the major labels influence on the public. all we have now is youtube to rely on, and even that's full of cunts like me
we're in the 21st century. why oh why is it easier to pick up 20 different bo diddly compilations, an assortment of books about Nuggets and every album made by a woman living in mongolia who uses her toenails as drum sticks than it is to find videos/albums by a band who have had one of the largest impacts on the current "alternative/indie" scenes of all? bands like the smiths and the jesus and mary chain have had praise constantly heaped upon them (rightfully so) whereas bands on true
@louiecostello What I mean is, the Nuggets you refer to. How is it easy? I discoveredthem, quite by accident, in the listening dept. of the main library in my city. I am a 1960s era enthusiast. I disagree with you, maybe that's been your experience. I have now, Domenic Priore's book that is the subject of Los Angeles' 60s rock scene and the names of bands of that era I have never heard of before that number over the thousands. Pastels? Influential? How so?
@Khultan well the nuggets series, along with pebbles and rubble etc, and well a whole lot of sixties garage and psychedelic music has been given decent reissues on both cd and vinyl. they've had their time in the shadows and now people have started to get interested in it all and its getting reissued and available. the pastels, alas, are still in the shadows. also, given that the pastels weren't around in the sixties, and are thus not so fetishised
very early 80s? he used to write for a wee magazine called'' juniper berry berry'' i seen them many times...i secretly had a crush for steven,i think he knew! lol
There was a single/12" version of this song that was absolutely brilliant.
But yes, The Pastels generally really suck really really bad.

@Khultan no, go to any hmv and the only cds it'll have will be either by musicians whose copyright has expired or albums on major record labels
