This is how I envision you doing it. Post the name and descriptions of items you'd like to review on your website, along with the cost of the item, and a donate link for your paypal account. Once the item has received 400% of its cost in donations, you purchase two and review them. When the review is posted, you mail the best functioning one to the person who donated the most to have the item reviewed, and keep the other to see if it can be fixed or how long it functions as hoped.
I enjoy your videos... I enjoy a lot of videos from many different sites. Sorry but I can't afford to pay them all. Just not going to pay. I think you're going to gave to validate your show with the suppliers. Get your money from them.
ok - $12. Paypal? Else direct debit. Your CV & quals? English reviewer (Techmoan) has factories in China sending beta-ware to check. No qualifications nor trade, but intelligent suggestions, slow, very clear English pronunciation, and better video creativity than yourself: side-by-side videos, slow motion, zoom-in.
Bruce Could I be so bold as to suggest a website. With links to the videos and also a coming up section, where you could list the up coming reviews. It would allow you to focus on the things you have promised. If you do it right you could also have Google ads, which would allow some income but you would not be tied to a sponsor.
I'd give a buck a month. But I also agree with the people talking about keeping your promises. If in an RCMR you say "next week I'm going to do A, B, and C" Then I would expect a, b and c within the next month or two... But not never.
We all buy stuff from Hobby King, can you not get an affiliate ID from them. Let us know what your affiliate ID is and we can add it to the product links when we go to buy and you can earn some revenue that way.
Set up all your new videos as unlisted. Then you need to set up in your website a subscribers only section and post the link in there. Sure people could then share the link with their friends or other people but I think in the most part most people couldn't be bothered. I reckon you would be able to collect 70% or more of the revenue you would otherwise this way. GL
Hi Bruce, as long as the content keeps coming, I'd be happy to contribute $12 per year (like others have said, please finalise some more of the topics you've started previously).
I sent you $20 last year - had been buying rc magazines @ $6/month previously until I realised your content was better, so even at that I'm still quids in.
You did some videos with chargers, wattmeters etc. in the past - more like this would be excellent, simple stuff that shows how to do the basics properly.
I may have an answer for you Bruce. Let me know how to best contact you and we can talk about it. By the way keep up the in depth technical reviews. The more geek the better.
Hi Bruce. While in-depth reviews are great, personally I just want to know how well an item works, is it expected to last & is it value for money, but kept really short and sweet and hopefully keeping your time spent per item short too. I suppose a pure recommendation would suffice too. Take HXT900 servo's, I have many, they're cheap & work really well for most small/medium aircraft, the gears are not sloppy nor too noisy. Recommended. Maybe rate items with your personal rating? (the BS rating?)
I wonder if you've too committed on completely supporting yourself on solely RCMR. You've a unique skillset in electrical engineering and RC. Couldn't you work also as a freelancer for hobby magazines in addition to your own work? Make the transition to being completely on your own easier.
You're right about no one offering a subscription-video service . I've heard other people in similar situations as you wondering no one is offering an easy solution to that.
I would gladly pay even 25-30 bucks a year for your reviews. they are professional, practical and crazy informative. some people say you move around a little too fast but I like it that way. the more info per vid the better. just don't forget to review the things you promise you will. keep up the awesome work.
Try selling your old products! And have you contacted hobbyking for a sponsorship??? And for making money, I know in YouTube you can limit the access to certain people, on your website put a paypal donate button and when these people donate they get added to your "awesome" list
@codymannthedestroyer Having a sponsor only leads to reviews like what you see on Flite Test, where every product is represented in a positive light. In other words, if the product is dog crap they are only going to tell you about the beautiful shades of brown.
(continued) So rally round Bruce, all you RC people, and donate some money to a cause which benefits all of us. What a loss to us it would be if Bruce were to go off the air for the lack of a pitifully small amount of which none of us would even miss!
(continued) Where else would you get such wide-ranging yet specialist, interesting, in-depth, unbiased, practical, money-saving and useful info combined with dry humour for that price? As others have pointed out: just compare it to the cost of a magazine or newspaper. I know of nowhere on the Net where you can get what Bruce offers even IF you pay for it!
Bruce, let me say right right up front: I am a big fan of you and your work! I think you do a fantastic job and provide an invaluable service to RC modelers the world over.
Of course you should be recompensed (and more!) for all your hard work and time. You could be out there earning a decent living, I'm sure, if you weren't spending all your time and talent testing and researching for our benefit
@Yorkvomork I've got a donate button on the RCModelReviews website. Transferring money internationally to bank accounts is horrendously expensive -- PayPal is much more convenient.
Come on tight wads.......send the man ten bucks right now. Here in the UK one of the c&*p magazines costs almost five quid so Bruce's efforts are a bargain and a hell of a lot more use and entertaining.
Yes happy to pay $1-2 month. For reviews would be prepared to sign up for a 1 yr subscription. Get going your reviews are better than the magazines I pay for - go for it there should be plenty of modellers willing to pay a $25 yr sub for full time reviews.
I hope you read theese comments - I would pay a $ a month, hey i would pay 2 $ a month, if only you would finish your videos. i can think of at least 6 projects that you have promised, and we have never heard anything? I think that a SWMAC would be a great idea for income, without your independence would be questioned - great videos keep em comming - BTW 10$ donated
Hi Bruce... I'm very happy to see you go full time. Hope you get the rewards for all your work that has already been immense. Re $12/y for "premium content" I'm very happy to pay that & realistically even more. Just as other posters on this thread I've already learned A LOT from you, and so I sent you a few bucks... bargain! However what sorts of things did you have in mind for for this content? My preferences are for hardware like your your telemetry project, I WOULD like to get a jump start!
Hi Bruce, I would be happy to pay for the service and the reviews, and as may have said below as long as you do review and complete what you say you are going to do. dont worry about the mail box sugment and the not so weekly reviews which dont really seen to review anything, hust complete and shown the reviews of the products - and Iam sure things will improve - As from the Movie line "build it (or in your case review it) and they will come"...
I donated $20 never heard anything from you plus I've lost count of the number of reviews you said you would do but never have... freq. hopping radio comparison was one... I also we are getting bogged down with cheap Chinese kit and omitting to include quality Chinese kit such as the DJI Wookong-M.
I think I echo the various sentiments on this response. It all comes down to delivery on your "promises". Most videos "promise" to review two to three things however they are not done.
My personal feeling is that you lack Focus darting here there and every where with your reviews. I completely understand why this happens and why projects remain un-finished, but if you are going to charge you have to deliver.
I have some ideas on how to do this if you want them get in touch
@alastairseggie The big problem to date (but not now) has been the lack of time to spend on completing projects and series -- which is why I opted to take the risk and go full-time, it will allow me to tidy up the loose ends. I suspect people don't realize just how much time goes into planning and researching even a simple "face to camera" review or segment of a series. The projects (such as the FPV backpack) involve *many* very long hours behind the scenes too.
@mmmartin261 I'd love to send people more feedback -- unfortunately, my RCMR inbox currently has over 500 emails in it and I'm getting around 200-300 new ones per day on each of three different email accounts. If I replied in person to each one, I'd never get *anything* done and there'd be no time for reviews. That's why I created the forums -- it's more efficient but even there my time has been limited.
Hey Bruce, straight facts, and RC isn't cheap as I've discovered after watching many
bits of fiberglass, balsa and EPO being quietly carried back to cars etc.
I've resigned myself to staying with electronics, and although the the local club guys 'suggest' I should actually do something, don't think I'll be 'stick-twiddling' in the near future. That's not a bad thing though, I can contribute to their hobby by donating various items to the club, and also to yourself. Your FPV is my next ...
I would happily pay for a subscription as long as there are videos frequently enough. like 2 or 3 a week. also for managing the videos you could have a pass-worded page on the rcmodelreviews website that all the subscribers get access to that hosts a bunch of private youtube links. then after a few weeks then make them public. and if possible the pass-worded links page should have an rss feed as well to make it easier to keep upto date :). just a sugestion.
G'day Bruce, as a newbie to RC planes I was fortunate enough to stumble across you site a few months ago and I must say thanks for all your content to date. I have learnt quite a fair bit and have just put together my AXN via your vids, but alas here in Newcastle AUS we are having a bit of your NZ weather also so am impatiently waiting for it to clear so I can launch my maiden flight. I have donated US$24 as its a fraction of what I have saved in not buying subpar products thanks to your reviews
I think it would be good to support Bruce and $12 per year is little to pay to keep him on air as many that are sponcered are byassed toward the person paying them.
By supporting him he would be able to get the products that we would reveiwed and if he didnt then we just stop paying! 8-)
There is a lot of CRAP out there and having someone you can trust to tell the truth is hard to find, most have a angle they are pushing.
besides how much did you spend on your last junk food buyup?
@RCModelReviews i just got an idea for the subscription thing.... you can do a subscription thing on paypal. then just email people the youtube link but set them as private (so only those with a link can watch) then after a month set them back to public
@hyper080 The problem with that idea is that the overhead in maintaining the database completely consumes the subscription. I guess I could write an application to do that but I'd still have to update it from the PayPal receipts etc. That's why I really want to outsource the subscription and access management aspect of things.
Thanks bruce! always good to see you uploading some more videos!
just another idea for you, if you can convince neil or a Heli guy to come in and do acouple vids/tips for heli setups and similar things like once or twice a month that might bring you a whole new lot of interested heli guys who may not of been interested in your channel otherwise and my get them subscribed to your channel!
maybe do a review of one of those rave heli's cause i havent seen one of them out before!
FYI - every 7955tg servo I have (8 at $100+ each!) has the jitters. I think Hitec claim that this is because they are so narrow and sensitive around the deadband that even the weight of the linkage has them clicking, popping and jittering and hunting for minute centreing adjustments. I have read that Hitec regard this as normal and the flicking movements of the surfaces disappear once there is some air pressure. Dont think I like this much. Can always re-program the deadband I guess...?
Bruce, your knowledge is extremely helpful and I would be pleased to support you with a subscription of more than 1$ a month! I subscribe to "choice magazine" and am pleased to do that for premium content reviews - even though I'm not interested in 50% of the things they review. As many others have said - PLEASE just deliver on the things you promise (ie story on oils etc). You have a wealth of knowledge and people trust you. Discuss things relevant to "everyday" modellers, not the arcane.
@Beetlessss Yes, I have been a bit scattered in my topics and a bit tardy in the completion of some projects -- this was mainly because the amount of time I had to allocate was so limited. That's one of the reason I've gone "full time" -- because I need the extra hours to tidy up some of the loose ends and approach the whole thing in a more structured manner. Over the next month or two you'll see the completion of many of those currently unfinished projects and reviews.
@RCModelReviews I'm with Beetlesss, a buck or 2 for your valuable info is worth it. Jesus!! it costs more than that for a can of beer and I consume more of those in a day than I really need. I still have not got off the ground yet but I am nearing that hollowed moment because of your videos and info. If I have to give up one can of beer a day then so be it!!.
The information i've learned from Bruce & RCmodelreviews over the past 3 years is Priceless, EVERYTHING i know about RC planes, FPV & (SOLDERING) came from Bruce. In the RC world BRUCE SIMPSON is a GOD. thank you Bruce for sharing your wealth of Knowledge,...Lol sorry about the Wealth Crack :)
Bruce, I am donating my $12.00 for a year however I hope that when you start a new topic or project that you stay with it until the end it just seems to be the right way to do it.
Bruce!!,... i tell people all the time that you are by far the Most Knowledgeable RC enthusiast on the web hands down,... p.s. i'd pay to watch your content.
we all need to stop whining and just pay a little bit a month. seriously people, he is doing us all a great service, for pay you could achieve by begging on the street. if we all just pay a dollar a month, that would be $7,500 per month. then everyone will be happy.
come on guys, bruce has made so many sacrifices for us, i think we can manage a dollar a month, especially when we are more than happy to pay up to ten dollars a month for rc magazines...
I'd pay $12 any time. Very good content in these videos. I'd also suggest you sell t-shirts and things like you're FPV backpack. If you do go the paid service route I think you'll need to serve up the videos at a more predictable rate and also cover things you say you are going to cover. People are really waiting for those FPV backpack build videos
All the best for your full-time venture. I love RCModelReviews as well as XJet.
man if you don't have money then stop the videos, don't make us feel pity on you i think you are higher than mentioning your financial situation, i like your videos and i recommend you get a sponsor.
@resurrectd I'm not seeking anyone's pity - I'm simply keeping everyone informed as to how things are going. I'm sure lots of folk would be pretty pissed off if I simply turned around and stopped mid-stream because I'd run out of money and there was no return on the efforts invested. I also don't want a sponsor -- that would effectively compromise my objectivity -- or at least allow others to challenge it. The value of RCMR to viewers is that it's untainted by sponsorship.
@resurrectd This Guy spends a lot of time and money on what he does,He loves what he does,And he tells it like it is,and I have bought items due to his recommendations, and with no regrets at all,He does not need your pity,Just the support to keep him on Youtube,Go spend £5 UK pounds on a dedicated magazine, and try to get an unbiased opinion, not likely,Seems to me your one of the anything for nothing guys,I am happy to pay,end of..
Id pay Bruce, even if you dont finish the stuff you promised.
Id actually pay an extra $1 per month if you dont shave till next christmas, by which time you'll like Santa and could do a really super Christmas vid!
I will be OK paying 1US$/month, Your videos have help me a lot, Also (like somebody else mention in the posts) the PORN industry have exactly what you want, you pay so much and in exchange youcan access to the channel, most probably you will need to invest in a good SERVER (6000US$ range) and a good internet service.
Also as some persons suggest in the post, if you say that you will do a review please do it, I been waiting for the Aurora9 review (you promise) for a while.
I was so happy to hear you were doing this full time, rcmodelreviews and xjet are now my favourite channels on youtube.I would be happy to pay $1 a month, and will probably start donating atleast that on a regular basis. Keep up the good work :)
Have put my money where my mouth is! Offered $24 donation as a sign of good faith. The information you've provided has certainly provided me with an excellent learning tool. Moving forward however, a little more structure/planning and building up a track record of "ontime" delivery of reviews/projects will improve people's reliance on rcmodelreviews.
Can I suggest when people do donate you maybe send them a thanks or even an acknowledgement (even an autorespond)? Sent you $30 as I ripped your AXN build videos onto a DVD for a friend without internet access. More build videos, more FPV videos please!
premium subscription sounds like a good idea... especially if there was a live stream thing where we could send you questions and you could answer them.
BUT... don't become an "RCSuperPowers" channel which used to do cool things but now only sells pdfs. BORING! i would hate to see you take the same path :(
But really, thanks, your putting your career on the line for all of us. :)
@AustinsRCplanes Many people have suggested that I start selling stuff but I see that as being a bit like taking on a sponsor -- it compromises your objectivity and can tend to lead to a focus on "sell sell sell" instead of "inform inform inform". I'd much rather just deliver people the information they need to make their own stuff than sell things. Plenty of people on the web are selling stuff -- I would like to be focused on delivering useful information instead.
@RCModelReviews How about selling things that you've designed and built yourself such as the FPV pod and welding mask? My hands aren't steady enough to do fine soldering any more so although there's tons of interesting cct board to be had what I really need is one with standard connectors that's already populated.
I'd definitely pay, especially if it gave you preference in answering RC questions, like "how do I accurately measure cell voltage?" or "what's the right way to determine thrust angle offset?" or "what's the best watt meter?". Not saying that being a premium subscriber would guarantee an answer, but at least allow you to submit questions.
Didn't realize you could donate by clicking on your rcmodelreviews site.I'll help support your reviews.Just a few of your videos has already saved me from buying junk, and I must admit my donation is just a fraction of the money I've saved by watching these reviews. Where else can you see a scope of what your tx is actually doing?
i agree with a lot of the posters. I really don't want to see you opening a package and explaining how it was packaged, etc, etc. I think you need to get to the review so we can make an informed decision to buy or not to buy. And yes, I haven't really seen any beginning reviews completed. Also, tutorials on how tos would be great. $12 dollars a year? A bargain! I'd gladly pay twice that If i'm leaning something about my hobby.
You should follow Flite Test's steps and get a sponsorship from a Chinese company like hobby king nitro planes or banana hobby. Oh and what country do you live in.
@WarefareModern3 Sponsorship is not a viable path if I want to remain independent and totally objective. As soon as a reviewer becomes beholding to a supplier for their income, the quality and objectivity is called into question. One only has to look at those reviewers who do take on sponsorship -- they can seldom find fault with the sponsor's products -- that doesn't really help people as much as a totally honest and independent review.
How about this. Bruce, have a Dollar Day, where you promise to post say 2 or 3 new videos such as the FPV Back pack build, and we donate a dollar that day. "Dollar Day Videos" If 1 in seven subscribers send you a buck, that's $1000.00. It won't cost anything to try!
I agree with a lot of other comments where I like your videos and believe they are informative and unbiased. However I would probably not agree to pay for any premium content, etc simply because it seems that you rarely finish any review series. You have made a lot of weekly updates saying you will review this and that but we never see these reviews, (with maybe the exception of the FPV reviews).
I hope things improve Bruce, we really find your videos very helpful! Would posting your videos on iTunes help? Most RC podcasts are only audio on YouTube, so perhaps that would be a way.
I say put a video on a DVD and sell them! and if they do not want to pay for them then that is up to them! I will buy a set! about your FPV back pack! and just about all your sets! so if some one will not pay they will just be out! $12. R U nuts? that is a steel! I have learned more out of your videos then all the other videos on the web! thank You!
Hell, what a deal! $12. I will sent it out right away! well on 02-01-2012! after all you have given to us! hell yes I will pay a little! I spend more on gas on my Harley in one after noon! so I'm in! and you will have it! Thank You for all you do! this Larry in the USA!
A dollar a month in this economey would be nothing less than a pure bargain for the info you provide. These "big time" companies need to send you their stuff for free for a true un-biased review and learn from what you discover. It can only help everyone in the end.If you can get things set up i'll gladly donate $100.00(U.S.) for your HONEST reviews of what these companies provide to us consumers. If they truly have nothing to hide then it should be NO problem for them..
If I may be so bold Bruce, just keep pumping out the videos, and your viewers will come. Most will not support an informational site where it's like pulling teeth to get the information. The viewers want their information and they want it now, in a steady, reliable, stream. I for one, am still waiting for the Hitec Aurora review. Soooooo... we want your reviews, you need our money. Lets get it done! :-)
At first I was hesitant at spending $1 (I don't get much income currently, need a job) a month, but then I decided, what the hell, I think I can manage $1 a month for your content. Your videos on the AXNs, Turnigy 9X, and FrSky have been very helpful with projects I am planning on doing myself. I just remembered I haven't mentioned you on my own website, and while I don't get many visitors (maybe 3 a month I swear xD) I'll be happy to link to your youtube channel and site.
Well, really ... in every "weekly bla bla", you you are going to review this and that, and going to build this and that, but really ... how many of the 100 episodes are not "weekly" videos ?
Except for the AXN build series, I don't think you ever managed to complete anything else...
@lrcarv1971 - have to agree, still waiting on the roundup of the XG8 Radio. XJet is interesting to watch as there is something going on and its a bit entertaining. To me for RCModelReviews it seems there is more videos covering whats arrived in the mail and how it was packed and whats inside rather then an actual review. Maybe more actual reviews might help then, people could decide if they did want to buy a product.
$1 a month is an easy decision for me. If you start it I will come! LOL. Seriously you give great advice and have wonderful flying videos. Be sure to let us know!
i like your channel, but not enough to pay u a whole dollar. sell t shirts , fpv backpacks, pcb s, get your " axn bruce edition" for sale. people are paying massive markup for team black sheep zephyrs. or. u can always look for empty cans in the garbage.
I think you should focus on getting more viewers rather than taxing the existing ones and potentially losing some... Great video's, you just need to finish more of your projects.
Agree with comments, happy to donate money but then with money coming in there will be an expectation of completing projects and keeping the high standard that you have shown so far.
Hesitated up till now due to everything being a bit of a scatter gun approach.
Hi Bruce, I have to agree with the replies of alot of people on here. I feel that the videos you do are first rate, but the problem is nothing is ever finished, you seem to just move on to another project without finishing the one before.
One thing I would like to say, is that you come up with some really good ideas for videos, but then they never materialise. I feel that if you were to deliver as promise, then people would most probably donate. All that aside, keep up the good work!
I would definitely pay a small monthly fee to watch your videos. I know your videos have the rcmodelreviews site in the top corner but maybe you could also make it a clickable link? Even if it was only at the beginning and end of the videos.
How making the subscription videos Unlisted and send the link either by email or message group(Yahoo perhaps?)? Then after the waiting period, you can make the videos public(if YouTube allows that) or make the link public or just repost the video..
You run 2 of my favourite Youtube channels but I have to admit I've sometimes been a bit annoyed seeing lovable old Barry & Co (yet again) instead of a much anticipated ("paid") RCModelReviews project conclusion. Maybe your focus could do with shifting a bit if you're not getting the revenue you hoped for? If you do post the project schedule that @MegaWoodss suggested on your website (and stick to it) I'd gladly donate $1 for every completed project I find useful in some way.
I got hooked watching a couple of really good reviews you did in the past, but since then it seems that there is a lot of telling us what you are going to be doing and not a lot of actual product reviews and/or comparisons.
Have content as good as what I've seen before on this channel, I will gladly chip in some bucks. Thanks
Bruce less whinging about getting money in . How about DOING some of the promised stuff? I have no favs but man you have promised a heap of stuff and I cant actually remember many being shown to any detail like say 900 mhz rx being moved to more "useable " frequencies . if it cant be done fare enough but tell us how far down the track you have gone ? detail remain unanswered on the comments under each video so is it going to be Gunna Bruce or the goto Bruce it's up to u
Hi Bruce, I've offered to pay before, but as others have said, you need to start completing the video series you start. You're always coming up with new videos you're going to make, which sound great, but as yet you still haven't finished a single series. I'm going to donate $5 in good faith, but I wouldn't subscribe until I was sure you were completing the things you start within a few months of starting them.
I'm a RC newbie and I stumbled across your youtube channel a few days ago. I'd like to say I really enjoy your videos and I find my self watching reviews for things I don't even care about. Occasionally I even learn things! ) You certainly deserve to be paid for all the effort you put into this series but in all honesty, I don't think I'd pay even if it was only $1/month. But I would consider donating a small amount (~$5) on your website if I found a particular review helpful.
@zip187 If you have a narrow viewing angle on your lens you may want to point it down a little but not much. I find most FPV cameras come with a 3.6mm lens which is fine pointing straight ahead IMO. So anything wider angle than that (less than 3.6mm) is also fine pointing straight ahead. My favorite lens to use is about 2.8mm which is gives a nice wide view (about the same as the human eye) yet not too wide too distort the image or loose detail. Good luck!
I dont think your idea for a pay subscription is a bad idea, however, if your subscribers are paying for the premium service, I recon you should give most of the products you review away to lucky premium subscribers once the review is over. This would make people much more likely to subscribe, and make you more money, especially if the product came for free in the beginning (I realise they arnt all given too you). Great vids though.
Next...teach yourself a little about SEO. Get your site ranked for review type keywords. Again, make your site the center piece of your business. Youtube is here support your site, but not replace it. Message me if you would like to discuss strategies in more detail. Developing such business is my business...I'm not going to charge you...just wanna help to keep the valuable info flowing. :)
$12 Donation sent today- keep up the good work!

Bruce Could I be so bold as to suggest a website. With links to the videos and also a coming up section, where you could list the up coming reviews. It would allow you to focus on the things you have promised. If you do it right you could also have Google ads, which would allow some income but you would not be tied to a sponsor.
To my mind this would be the best of all worlds.

I'd give a buck a month. But I also agree with the people talking about keeping your promises. If in an RCMR you say "next week I'm going to do A, B, and C" Then I would expect a, b and c within the next month or two... But not never.

Why not have a password protected homepage - sell the password for $12.
Upoad the videos to the web page first and then YouTube after one month.
I'll be happy to send you the $12.
Cheers

@pghern Good idea, he could upload them as non-listed videos on youtube and embed them in the webpage.

The more geek the better.
ashleymiwolf 4 weeks ago

Hey Bruce,
I just donated a little money on your pay-pal acount listed on your website!
I am sure more people are willing to do so untill you have a different solution.
Tell the people about the possibility to donate on your website !!!

I would gladly pay even 25-30 bucks a year for your reviews. they are professional, practical and crazy informative. some people say you move around a little too fast but I like it that way. the more info per vid the better. just don't forget to review the things you promise you will. keep up the awesome work.
NathanHartkopf 4 weeks ago
Try selling your old products! And have you contacted hobbyking for a sponsorship??? And for making money, I know in YouTube you can limit the access to certain people, on your website put a paypal donate button and when these people donate they get added to your "awesome" list
codymannthedestroyer 4 weeks ago
@codymannthedestroyer Having a sponsor only leads to reviews like what you see on Flite Test, where every product is represented in a positive light. In other words, if the product is dog crap they are only going to tell you about the beautiful shades of brown.

(continued) So rally round Bruce, all you RC people, and donate some money to a cause which benefits all of us. What a loss to us it would be if Bruce were to go off the air for the lack of a pitifully small amount of which none of us would even miss!
jof1953 4 weeks ago
(continued) Where else would you get such wide-ranging yet specialist, interesting, in-depth, unbiased, practical, money-saving and useful info combined with dry humour for that price? As others have pointed out: just compare it to the cost of a magazine or newspaper. I know of nowhere on the Net where you can get what Bruce offers even IF you pay for it!
jof1953 4 weeks ago
(continued) It's an even greater shame when you don't even derive a sufficient income to buy the products you need to review!
I think asking $1 a month subscription is very very cheap when you consider the value you get. It's worth a lot more than that!
jof1953 4 weeks ago
Bruce, let me say right right up front: I am a big fan of you and your work! I think you do a fantastic job and provide an invaluable service to RC modelers the world over.
Of course you should be recompensed (and more!) for all your hard work and time. You could be out there earning a decent living, I'm sure, if you weren't spending all your time and talent testing and researching for our benefit

Hi Bruce,
Well done on producing your 100th RCMR video, great achievement. Some ideas for you to consider (if you haven't already)
1) At the end of EACH video remind your viewers to donate. Many of us appreciate your work and will donate at some point in time.
2) Think about commercialising some of your work e.g.FPV backpack (some will make it but many just want it!!).
3) Cross promote with your xjet channel and other channels to increase subscribers.
Good luck and thanks I will donate!

Hi Bruce,
I think I echo the various sentiments on this response.
Al
alastairseggie 1 month ago 4
@alastairseggie The big problem to date (but not now) has been the lack of time to spend on completing projects and series -- which is why I opted to take the risk and go full-time, it will allow me to tidy up the loose ends. I suspect people don't realize just how much time goes into planning and researching even a simple "face to camera" review or segment of a series. The projects (such as the FPV backpack) involve *many* very long hours behind the scenes too.
RCModelReviews 4 weeks ago
$12 make it happen but I wouldn't pay much more than that. it would be nice to get some feedback from you once in a while.
mmmartin261 1 month ago
@mmmartin261 I'd love to send people more feedback -- unfortunately, my RCMR inbox currently has over 500 emails in it and I'm getting around 200-300 new ones per day on each of three different email accounts. If I replied in person to each one, I'd never get *anything* done and there'd be no time for reviews. That's why I created the forums -- it's more efficient but even there my time has been limited.
RCModelReviews 4 weeks ago

@RCModelReviews i just got an idea for the subscription thing.... you can do a subscription thing on paypal. then just email people the youtube link but set them as private (so only those with a link can watch) then after a month set them back to public
hyper080 1 month ago
@hyper080 The problem with that idea is that the overhead in maintaining the database completely consumes the subscription. I guess I could write an application to do that but I'd still have to update it from the PayPal receipts etc. That's why I really want to outsource the subscription and access management aspect of things.

Beetlessss 1 month ago
Bruce, your knowledge is extremely helpful and I would be pleased to support you with a subscription of more than 1$ a month! I subscribe to "choice magazine" and am pleased to do that for premium content reviews - even though I'm not interested in 50% of the things they review. As many others have said - PLEASE just deliver on the things you promise (ie story on oils etc). You have a wealth of knowledge and people trust you. Discuss things relevant to "everyday" modellers, not the arcane.
Beetlessss 1 month ago
@Beetlessss oh yeah I agree
rsquarednz 1 month ago

I'd definitely pay, especially if it gave you preference in answering RC questions, like "how do I accurately measure cell voltage?" or "what's the right way to determine thrust angle offset?" or "what's the best watt meter?". Not saying that being a premium subscriber would guarantee an answer, but at least allow you to submit questions.

WarefareModern3 1 month ago
@WarefareModern3 Sponsorship is not a viable path if I want to remain independent and totally objective. As soon as a reviewer becomes beholding to a supplier for their income, the quality and objectivity is called into question. One only has to look at those reviewers who do take on sponsorship -- they can seldom find fault with the sponsor's products -- that doesn't really help people as much as a totally honest and independent review.

If I may be so bold Bruce, just keep pumping out the videos, and your viewers will come. Most will not support an informational site where it's like pulling teeth to get the information.

My 2 cents (which I'll keep in my pocket !)

Hello.
I like the rc boats especialy the electrics.
You can make some reviews for marine esc-batteries even which tx-rx is best for boat use.
I think somethink like that.
jkrsecret 1 month ago
Oh and you could sell the reviewed stuffs you dont use, and/or manufacture those fpv backpacks with a small profit to cover the hours spent building

$1 a month is an easy decision for me. If you start it I will come! LOL. Seriously you give great advice and have wonderful flying videos. Be sure to let us know!

I love your channel, and I'd be glad to pay you a dollar for premium content

You should check into RCSuperPowers "RC How-To" video class thing. See how he does it.

i like your channel, but not enough to pay u a whole dollar. sell t shirts , fpv backpacks, pcb s, get your " axn bruce edition" for sale. people are paying massive markup for team black sheep zephyrs. or. u can always look for empty cans in the garbage.

You should get sponsors bruce!
Why not get sponsored by a company ?
How is alishanmao and flitetest doing it?
You have 20x more knowledge then them!
xsykgaffelx 1 month ago
@xsykgaffelx I think Bruce doesn't want a sponsor so he won't get accused of bias in his reviews.

I think you should focus on getting more viewers rather than taxing the existing ones and potentially losing some... Great video's, you just need to finish more of your projects.

Agree with comments, happy to donate money but then with money coming in there will be an expectation of completing projects and keeping the high standard that you have shown so far.
Hesitated up till now due to everything being a bit of a scatter gun approach.

i'll buy a T-shirt or two. congrats on the 100th (great) video.

I've made about a cup of coffee's worth in the few years of maintaining my channel ;P

I would definitely pay a small monthly fee to watch your videos. I know your videos have the rcmodelreviews site in the top corner but maybe you could also make it a clickable link? Even if it was only at the beginning and end of the videos.
Anyway good luck, hope it all goes well for you!

How making the subscription videos Unlisted and send the link either by email or message group(Yahoo perhaps?)? Then after the waiting period, you can make the videos public(if YouTube allows that) or make the link public or just repost the video..

Hi Bruce.

Hello down under...
