My family breeds dogs and just because we breed our animals ourselves doesn't mean that we don't take the most precautions during the breeding, birthing and selling stages that we can. I've seen many more dogs abused by people who have bought the dogs from the breeders then the breeders themselves so don't blame us! Sometimes people can fool you and make you think that they're going to be good to the dogs but unless we really know them we really never know.
I see the product of breeding every day at the animal shelter I work at. All of you idiots who breed your animals should be forced to work at a kill animal shelter where amazing and loving animals are slaughtered every day so that you can sell your premium, pure bred (inbred) animals like products. I work in a shelter, I know a lot more about the situation than you do and I can guaran-damn-tee that about 60% of the dogs we get are dogs that were bought from breeders but were given up because of behavior problems. Here by law every dog is micro chipped with the owner's info.
If dogs were free and mating all the time, we would have even more of a population problem. In the wild, animals have biological mechanisms that can prevent them from conceiving offspring, if the season is harsh, theres not enough food, or the potential mates are weak, animals will not mate. We have taken that away from domestic animals, it is our duty to spay them.

It's estimated that 3-4 million dogs and cats are euthanized every YEAR in the United States. People who allow their pets to breed are contributing to these numbers. STOP and think about that.

@napalm940 the male is actually a poodle, and how you know they will be euthanized? i guess you are pessimistic, you dont even know if the dog really got pregnant. They are small size dogs and even if the puppies are not pure breed they more then likely find homes.

@salvolondon No,I am a realist.Take a look at all the other comments and thumbs up on this page,most refer to exactly the same point I was making.I dont want any animal to be put to sleep,however, thats the reality of irresponsible breeding.Shelters and rescues are overflowing with dogs,cats,etc they cant find homes for,so why add to the population and make the problem worse?

@napalm940 You do not know the situation, then you can't judge the owner, maybe she already knows where the puppies will go, the shelters are full but not necessary for irresponsible breeding, but more because there are idiots who abandon their dogs, that doesn't mean that if a person has the pleasure to let her dog have puppies has to be judged because of that, as long as he or she will find good homes for the puppies there is nothing wrong with that.

@salvolondon In addition to my original response,I should add that we have 4 rescue dogs in our home,2 of which are poodle mix.Last month,I assisted a stranger in taking 2 dogs to the E.R. vet because they had been shot.Also,I helped a friend get a stray cat to the vet because it had been run over.Both dogs died,the cat lived.So I strongly feel my comment is coming from personal experience in dealing the result of reckless breeding.

Everyone needs to shut the hell up about this debate. Yes it sucks and no it's never going to be fixed. Why are people complaining about just dogs anyways? Cats are always mating with each other. They're practically no better than vermin. And if you ask me, we should deal with human population instead. Dogs can at the very least give humans meat if we need it, but if we stop the overpopulation of humans, we can stop the overpopulation of other animals such as cows, dogs and cats.
