i knew john was an actor and pilot and father and husband, but must have missed where he attended medical school, so just maybe they were acting on advice from there doctors, or how about the meds he was on were not working, the brain is very tricky, so dont any one of you act like you know, truth is the loved that boy.

Interestingly, Jett was on medication (which did not work). However, even if Jett had medication that worked, he could still have died: when his Depakote worked, he still had seizures every three weeks. By that rationale, there is no connection with Scientology. I think many people here just don't know what they are talking about.

Also, as 'PleasePonderThis' said: Christianity and the Islam are just as bad if they are taken litteraly (which very little do). I believe it's the same with CoS.

I think many people here are not saying that Jett's life would have been saved with medications (although having fewer seizures surely would have improved his chances of survival). We are, rather, saddened by the fact that he was not allowed to live a fuller life as a result of his parents intentionally misdiagnosing a chronic illness. While we can never be certain what exactly was wrong with Jett, I believe with proper mental health care he could have lived a better life while he was with us.

Yes, but there is no cure for autism, which would mean that if they treated his possible autism (is there any proof at all?), he still would have a seizure disorder.

They also don't treat seizure disorders such as epilepsy (see user ToryMagoo44 for more info), and while you are so right that there is no cure for autism, there are therapies which can help improve the overall quality of life.

As you said, autism therapies can help improve the overall quality of life, but this still would not take away the seizures... so even if Travolta treated his possible autism in the regular way, this would not have stopped his son from having seizures - my point here is that Jett's mental health was of no importance in this case.

As far as I know, they do treat seizure disorders: this is neurological and not psychological or psychiatric...

Once again I refer you to youtube user ToryMagoo44, or search for "Tory Magoo" or "Tory Christman" on google. You will find a firsthand account of a woman who was in Scientology for years who was told she could not continue Scientology practices while taking medication for seizures.

I have actually heard rumors that Jett was on Depakote though, which is also an anti-seizure medication.

I heard those rumors too, although they don't make much sense. His mother actively campaigns against the entire psychiatric industry and tells other mothers not to treat their childrens mental illnesses, so fro the stand point of Scientology treating him for seizures (which are not considered a physical illness) would be a bit hypocritical. They also said they only tried it for a little while and then gave up treating the seizures altogether, instead of switching to other options.

I have a mentally ill stepson. The facial expression, movement, look of confusion, dark circles under his eyes, etc. are all very familiar to me. No one can tell me that Jett is not mentally ill. He is probably bi-polar if not worse. The Travoltas are guilty of child abuse by not availing their son to the help he clearly needed. Medications could have given him a chance at a much fuller life. Shame on them.

mcneal04 Autism is not a mental illness, its a neurological disorder, but mental illness such as depression can be a side effect. It's hard for me to judge them though, my son was not diagnosed correctly until he was age 22 w/ Asperger's Syndrome. Believe me, many times the so-called professionals are more confused and in the dark than the parents are. Parents cannot be held accountable for not having the wherewithal to know everything about every illness and disorder , especially the rare ones.

Sadly, autism is not a terribly rare disorder in this day and age, although it remains a very difficult one to diagnose. What angers me is the parents clinging to a diagnosis that can easily be disproven: Kawasaki's Syndrome. While Jett may have suffered from this as a child, it does not cause seizures after the initial infection, nor does it cause any of the myriad other symptoms seen in Jett Travolta, such as the hand movements, social maladjustment, and muteness.

bluewiggirl I have read that John & Joey Travolta (his brother) had several heated discussions about Jett's diagnosis (or misdiagnosis). Actually, it is a blessing in disguise that both John and Kelly were in denial together, it actually makes for a happier marriage thus a stabler lifestyle for the children. I know from personal experience that me & my hubby's denial sustained us for the first 19 years of my son's life, but son fell apart when he got out of high school, & so did our marriage.

Clearly this boy had some developmental problems...I'd like to hope that he was getting all the help and treatment that was available to him under current medicine but I know his parents are DEVOUT $cientologi$t$ so they probably just repeatedly subjected him to toxic doses of vitamins and dangerously long and hot saunas...if he had some form of cognitive damage that kind of nonsense could have even made it worse...Child and Family Services U.S. really should do an intensive investigation.

Well one of Travolta's neighbours whom has a child of his own suffering from Autism stated that Jett, the few times he was outside, showed all the classic signs of it.

Despite the denial, the Travoltas clearly love both their children, and they look very close-knit, going everywhere together. They are not "hiding" Jett, they took him to Paris, the Bahamas... young Jett was quite the jet-setter!

No matter if they loved him, most stuff point to his death having been caused by an epileptic attack, and if you didn't know, scientologists don't believe in 'epilepsy' nor treating it with medicine.

I feel sorry for Jett, I do however not feel sorry for the Travolta's and if anything it should be investigated if they actually are suitable parents.

espark1089 My understanding too is that Scientology has nothing against treatment of seizures, and that stopping Jett's meds was a decision between parents and doctors only. Unfortunately, medicine is an art, not a science.

Some of us don't criticize their belief in scientology but their lack of belief in modern medicine. It is no secret how Scientology views neurological disorders and it is no secret how the Travolta's felt about kids being "over" medicated.
