Forcing society to alter the long-standing definition of "marriage" is not a "fundamental right". In CA, gays already have the EXACT SAME legal rights through CA Family Code 297.5.
What IS a "fundamental right" is democracy, and the ability to amend one's constitution. Sure, try to sell gay marriage to the voters, but fighting democracy through the courts.

I think that"marriage" as it is now should not be a legal term. Legally, everyone should be getting "Civil Unions" which afford ALL the rights of what we now call "marriage"- this way, the right wing fundamentalists can shut up about a word, and they can keep feeling special about being married. Marriage could then be a religious ceremony for each religion to dictate what goes-meanwhile my religion acknowledges and accepts my relationships so I am all set.

Plenty of heteros were active supporters of gay marriage in California and Maine. Gay marriage lost in those states because Mormons and the Catholic church poured money (which they don't actually have) into campaigns which utilized lies and stereotypes to win over people who don't fully understand homosexuality. Religious morality has no place in the creation of law. As a country, it is a shame to see how much Christian Fundamentalism has influenced our recent political history while many other countries are shifting to a more secular approach. I think that"marriage" as it is now should not be a legal term. Legally, everyone should be getting "Civil Unions" which afford ALL the rights of what we now call "marriage"- this way, the right wing fundamentalists can shut up about a word, and they can keep feeling special about being married. Marriage could then be a religious ceremony for each religion to dictate what goes-meanwhile my religion acknowledges and accepts my relationships so I am all set.

We aren't equals. There are 1,138 benefits the United States government provides to legally married couples which are excluded from couples in civil unions. It's not about getting extra rights. It's about receiving the same rights as everyone else in this country. If you are bothered by us seeking equal rights that's your problem, but we only want what the constitution was created to give us.

There is really nothing to reply to..gay already have the same rights as every American, they want special rights..there wasa vote in california and they lost, you are right, i guess they will get another shot in a soon enough, but until then its law, the will of the people...I have no vendetta against gays, i dont care if someone is gay, i know gays, they just dont deserve any special rights. They want Equal Rights.
They want to be able to marry Someone that they love. I don't think that they believe they are special, they just want to marry their significant other. This will do nothing to reduce the sanctity of marriage, there are other outlets that accomplish that (Most to be found in Las Vegas). Now for the question I really want to ask, how can you be sure that being gay is a choice? I would love for you to site some sources to back your opinion. Non religious please.

Religious morality has no place in the creation of law. As a country, it is a shame to see how much Christian Fundamentalism has influenced our recent political history while many other countries are shifting to a more secular approach. The only reasons anyone has given to deny gay marriage are rooted in the Bible. "The Bible says" is not a valid political argument.

What Would Jesus Do? My lord and savior tells me, in my heart of hearts, that being LGBTQ is exactly who we are designed to be (God doesn't make mistakes!) If anti-Christians wants to restrict what they consider to be valid within their walls of their "congregations," that is their ungodly business, nevertheless outside, in the full glory and everlasting love of God, marriage equality is not only given to us by God, but should be, without a doubt, recognized by the state. :)

according to the christian god and the bible, love is the greatest power and through God's love, the greatest good, we are forgiven right? and all sin is equal be it murder or lying. but we are forgiven of those sins through love. so if two people love each other, be it homosexual or heterosexual, how can if be sin if it comes from the greatest good? i went to a christian school up until this year. i should know.

She is an embarrassment to the Korean community. She represents everything that the community don't want their children to be. Most people in the community hates the fact that she is the most visible Korean in America. Her views and values are not what the overwhelming majority of Koreans agree with.
