Wow, what tortured logic!! So, moving to a healthcare system like those in Canada, the UK and much of Scandinavia will foster living habits as reckless as seen in those countries? You might want to check the obesity, heart disease and stress disorder rates of those countries compared to ours.
LMFAO you think Canada has worse heart disease than the US???? Just because we have very affordable healthcare doesnt mean we all go out and break eachothers bones and eat all the red meat we can you moron. Theres people who eat bad food and theres people who eat good food like any other developed country in the world. One BIG difference is the portions of food in the US are practically DOUBLE that of in Canada for fast food/restaurants.
I'm in Canada and having universal health care doesn't turn us into reckless alcoholic gluttons... I think the key is preventative care, but since its more lucrative for drug companies and doctors to keep pumping out drugs I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon in the American health care industry.
"Your deductible is what the insurance company has put in place to deter you from seeking medical care as much as possible, and to make sure the healthiest people still get it stuck to them if they need noncatastrophic services. Even after your deductible, you will still be boxed into incredible limits and continued costs."
I like how they ridiculously call a deductible "a way for Gary to shoulder some responsibility for his health." Gary will do what Gary does, but it does not absolve insurance companies of the damage that deductibles do.
The amount that insurance companies milk from plan members should be covered by the huge amounts that employers pay to insurance companies.
No one wants to get sick. Just because you can get treatment, doesn't reduce the unpleasantness.
Places where health care is free (all of the industrialized world except the U.S.), people don't go on crazy sprees. In fact they are generally healthier than the states despite health care being free.
The unhealthy behaviour has more to do with cultural life style (diet, activity etc...), than it does with people's feelings of personal responsibility. Sure it factors in, but less so on mass.
Are you serious? Just take a look at the statistics, look at the average life span (which should be the best indicator of average health) of the people living in countries with universal health care, for instance, Japan, United Kingdom, France, Sweden, Switzerland, Italy, Australia, Spain, Norway, Israel, South Korea, and many others. United States ranks only 45th in average life expectancy and it is one of the very few if not the only first world country where there is no universal health care.
I'm not convinced that people would live any more responsibly if their healthcare wasn't free. As you admit, people don't do it today... what evidence do you have to the contrary?
That being said, there are other reasons why "completely free healthcare" cannot be a reality. For instance, if someone invents a $1 million prosthetic eye, who gets it? Everyone? No one? The answer HAS to be, the rich, who can afford it.
Dont know how they do it USA,but i Europe people avoid being unhealthy because it feels bad, not because they have to pay for it... Smoking, eating junk is a slow "killer" so that is not being reckless, avoiding driving fast on the other hand is reckless and some sensible people avoid it because you just might die
That's ridiculous. I wouldn't live more dangerously if health insurance were free. I fear death, not high health care costs. I hope most of the rest of the world has as much a will to live as I do. Do you?
I didn't need to get to the end - to figure out this was produced by a health insurance company. Basically, you squeeze the insured and the providers for every dime your can.

wouldnt we liked to have had our classes taught in this format instead of just out of a book...
now if we can only educate everyone about social security and its involvement in health insurance that would be great!

i.e., how you get screwed into paying for something that should rightly be yours as a citizen.
Look outside America's bubble, you'll see the rest of the developed world actually takes care of their people.
These are professional videos made by the insurance company Humana to keep up the illusion of the status quo.
