people target experts on the slightest mistakes they find and as i see it her ridding is normal (good enough) and she knows how to deal with the horse but she isnt an expert she has some flaws in her riding as people here pointed out
I have to disagree with a lot of people here. I think your position is fine. What I like about it is that it's still and you don't make a big deal out of it.
@simpleshoes2009 allow your hips to follow the trajectory created by the horses hips - that is forwards and up at a 45 degree (ish) angle depending on the horse- will allow you to have a soft following post that should feel natural and not like work :)
@Shiloh1096 Keep your leg on. Now you have an even bigger problem because he has learned that you will let him break whenever he decides to, and that is a big no no. He needs to learn to stop when YOU decide to stop.
Now you have to break that habit and he is probably going to fuss about it, so be ready for the pissy attitude! but you have to keep your leg on with constant pressure and teach him what you want to do. you will probably have to exaggerate your movements till' he gets it.
Hey Cubetacular4cake, you have no idea what your talking about... hahahha a Gymnastic Line like this only has one stride in between therefore you cant trot it.. She looked flawlesss.
If you would watch me jump, I appear to have very little release or jumping position/two-point between jumps. Why? Because if you know your horse and have a lot of jumping experience, you know how to just follow your horse's movement and adjust your own position accordingly. If your horse takes a long spot, give a bigger release and get out of the saddle. All of these techniques are basically just to get out of your horse's way while he jumps. Don't criticize unless your horse is this good!
Better than I do....... Very nice!! = ) Let's not slag on people right? We're all in training for the same purpose. To ride better... she's not some hill-jack jumping shit with no trainer on some junk in the back yard, she's actively learning. (and better than me I might add) again.)
People should stop saying the bad thigs about this! her position is fine! and yes it does say trot but she got over it fine so does it really matter? grow up and lets see you ride?
@TwilightsDudey Shes entering it at the trot. The jumps are set up for canter strides, and if she took the whole thing at a trot it wouldn't have turned out so fluidly.
@fireballarabian I was taught half seat and two point were the same thing... one point is sitting in the saddle, two point is jumping position and 'three' point was standing straight up in your saddle... and half seat was jumping position. I dont really know but thats what my trainer taught me and she was titled a champion hunter jumper in several different shows. Not disagreeing, just confused.
@fireballarabian When jumping, half seat makes jumping a lot easier and she's not stay in two point, she's simply going into half seat, jumping the next fence and doing the same. The bounce jumps aren't easy and staying in half seat makes riding them a lot easier.
i did this once, but with 4 jumps. it was a bounce (2jumps) then a 2 stride and then a 1 stride. i cant remember exactly though. but it was fun. i havnt jumped in months though. :(
@hugo12707 generally four regular human steps equals one medium sized horse stride... in a gymkhana you can seperate them by nine feet which would be a bounce jump.
ok so my trainer has been offered to go to the olympics and i know what the release is spose to look like and trust me this rider knows what she is doing mkay people~!
That looks like a horse I used to jump with, during my riding lessons. Gosh, I did love riding and jumping. Even had the opportunity to do a seminar with Ian Millar once. That was amazing, cause I got to ride for him, and he even complimented me.
yeah and besides her release is subtle and hardly there. in a combination u r meant to keep a good contact and they are small jumps, u dont need a huge release anyway.
@fireballarabian Yeah. I, personally, am a fan of staying a little out of the saddle between jumps in a line like this because you're less likely to get behind - especially with the bounce jumps.
@fireballarabian I've heard it both ways. I've been taught sitting back in position between the two jumps and staying in two point between them. Honestly, I think it's what you feel comfortable with and what you believe works with your horse, as long as you continue to release and go up when necessary. A good rider should be able to approach that line in two point and go through the whole thing still in two point without problems.
lol i agree wish gsukrq06 and my take on releases are you should only release as much as the horse needs, as long as you don't his him in the moth on the landing then its not to small but if your throwing your reins you will have to work harder on the landing to get your contact back and get him on the bit and for him to be responsive to your aids lol but yea thats just me, I like the way she rides, very quiet but assertive :)
well she doesnt have to throw herself to give a release. just moving her arms a couple inches. but yes she does move with him. but the horse could use a little rein to be able to stretch. very good position btw
I think that this video was well made and the horse is beautiful I might add. I notcied (not critizing) that when the horse was jumping he/she would bend its neck over the jump then relax.
she is NOT popping him in the mouth. she has a perfect release. you shouldn't throw your hands up the horses neck. especially when doing a gymnastic line. its really dangerous if you do so, because your allowing the horse to drop on forehand or dive out to the side in front of the next jump. i have learned from many trainers to always have light contact ALL the way over the jump just like this rider in this video.
unless you are experienced yourself don't speak up. The books are to help beginners to understand and exaggerate things. Those are baby jumps and hardly require a release. It's not like she's reefing on his mouth or anything!

@pianomusic1000 umm loads of horses carry their head high...my horse being 1 of them...she isnt tense...if she was the horse wud react 2 the tension by side stepping etc not jump as neatly as it does here...unless u r mistaking her good position as tense...

Nice Riding. All I suggest is to release a bit more, Your kind of restricting the horses neck and head! Other than that, you guys make a fantastic team. Gymnastics are a blastt(:
dont get me wrong but im sure you lot are good riders and stuff but she doesnt look bad and if she is what the others are saying she is (which i am sure she is) then trust me your advise will totally be flushed down the toilet altogether o next time dont be so rude and hurtful if your nto going to say anything nice dont say anything at all :) !
haha, it so funny how ppl criticize the riders position and release: 1. this is an e-how video, so shes not gonna see your advice! lol 2. her position is fine. shes not exagerating it because shes experienced and doesnt need to 3. i saw the release, it was subtle, with quite hands (more like an uberstreichen for you dressage buffs), which is how it should be for an experienced rider. 4. this video is by Mara Keith-Hunter............"she dont need yo help" lol!
ya i agree, you are a good rider but like jumpergirl9494 said, you are forward in the jumps, i would sit back in your butt a little more but still be able to lean forward enough to be able to have a comfordable 2-point position. other than that- Good Rider! :)
if i can tell a bad rider when i see one its you. you're so stupid that you can't tell a good rider when you see one, because you are so used to seeing bad ones. like yourself. so shut up, she knows what shes doing.
lemme guess, you're one of those riders that think they know it all but dont. SHUT THE FUCK UP SHES THE FUCKING HEAD COACH FOR THE HAMPSHIRE COLLEGE EQUESTRIAN TEAM
Whoever said jumping 7 jumps is too many, think again. It's a great way to keep your horse's attention & focus on fixing other things instead of just focusing on a course. I think the hollow trotting issue that was mentioned should be addressed when doing flatwork, not in the middle of jumping. The only thing I noticed is that you're a little forward over the jumps. Pause at :35 and 1:04, you'll see that your rear is over the cantle of the saddle instead of the back. Otherwise, looks great!
the line looks very nice. On the long sides riding to the line the horse is always hollow to the outside and not carrying weight on his inside hind leg but rather balancing himself against the insight shoulder .....
its called a gymnastic line and its used to build the horses strength and flexibility. 7 fences is not too many for an experienced horse or rider; but definitely too many for a horse that is green or out of shape. this video was made by Mara-Keith Hunter; shes the head coach for the Hampshire College equestrian team....i have a feeling she knows what shes doing.
its best to have a horse that is controllable at a trot over a jump because most people think its best to just run them over a jump. no its about the control inbetween/over/after the jump. Not the speed, speed doesn't matter until you've got the control in hand.
haha that looks fun! The most ive ever done is 4 jumps after each other because my ring isnt that big and we arent realy supossed to change jumps around... haha
I love gymnastics but my barn does not allow the course to be changed. Gymnastics build up muscle without jumping the horse hunge all the time and builds up wind! I like alot of small 2'3" up to 2'9" in my gymnastics.
haha yep, when they're too scared to say it in real life, they say it in the comments. I like constructive comments, but honestly, the head coach for the Hampshire College equestrian team is not going to listen to these comments on youtube anyways.
Haha yes i don't think so either! It's just very odd that some people are so bitchy to one another! I read somewhere that even the top showjumpers etc don't say they are great riders coz there is always something else to learn. Yet a bit of support from fellow riders surely wouldn't be to much to ask!!! ah well such is life :-)
This is actally what 2 point is SUPOSE to look like...Staying up and with the horse, not laying on their necks, or cought up behind the motion landing on their backs and ripping their mouths off.
canter or trot wither way she jmuped it stop beeing so picky !! , stunning your horse has very light strides and is very floaty, i love doing bounces and doubles and strides, but then agen i fell of onto a jump wing on a third jump of a combination , and it was a roll top, good job i dodnt fall on that !, stunning horse, have you got a video of all 2-7 line becos i cant find them all if you have just reply tothis comment the link/tag thingy-ma-bobby thankyou. good job stunning horse
she trotted to the jump. my instructor, when i first started jumping, i asked if it was ok if he cantered in between the jumps. her reply was "We are jumping now, you may trot the first fence, you must canter everything else" when it comes to gymnastics anways.
maybe, if he turns a cirtain way you could have a crop/stick/whip in the hand which he turns to, just to back up your leg and hand.
also, if you have problems you could try just having a good few strides before the jumps to get straight, and then just keep your hand and leg even and strong :D
the horse i ride is young so he's not very straight either. My instructor tells me after a jump to stop straight instead of to keep going around the corners or something...hope that helps a bit!
I think the horse and the rider are good togethter and everyone needs help!! I like the video and I think you should just back off! Its hard enough to ride a horse without people telling her shes not good because she likes it and thats all that matters!!! Good Job
This is basically a comment for "TheEmmaMarything". One of the first things you should learn when riding, is that it is very rare that you know as much as you think you do. Your position is not better than this riders, the grid and the height of it are indeed correct. Perhaps the lesson you should take away is that you need to think before you criticise other riders.....kk?
you let him have his head more so reall y release those reins and you might wanna get a better position i'm 13 and i have a wayyyy better position than you. that last jump is way too big for the line your doing. it's a good workout but you made it too harcore on your horse. i usually don't critique like this but when i saw this i just had to. so remember what i told u kk?
yeh i watched your videos and neither one of you ( mary or emma) is better than this lady and her crest release is fine for the height, and that height is not to big for that exercise at all! It could be way bigger and that horse would be fine! The point of gymnastics is to strengthen your horses hind end so its not suppose to be really easy.
hey emmamarything, why so harsh? I'm not trying to be rude or anything but I doubt you have a better position since your 13. But, everyone has something they need to work on. stop bringing people down
Umm.. I had to check your videos out to see if you were actually good, and you couldn't even get the right number of strides down a two foot line, you were constantly ahead of the motion, and you werent wearing a helmet. someone needs an ego check hun
In the horse world everyone is going to have something to say and your not always gonna like it. But being rude to everyone you think does the tiniest thing wrong is not going to get u anywhere in life and if you think u are so much better than that lady then why can u count strides in your head and the horse shouldnt do the striding you should tell them to lengthen or shorten their stride. ur release well....... SUCKS. u Are WAY to forward a Think before u say miss Emma LOTS of love ANNA
I've seen your videos. You do not have a better position then this rider. You lean forward too much and you are all over the place with your reins. The last jump was fine. Haven't you ever seen a gymnastic line lead up to an oxer before? Many people do bounces leading up to jumps way higher then that. I've seen people who use bounces to get to a jump that is 4 feet and higher. If the horse can do it, it's fine. It also teaches the rider a better position. so remember what I told you kk?
you actually have an ok position, but her horse is obviously hot and she is rather solid. So to everyone telling her to get better eq and crap just shut it, hers is fine, it might not win the maclay but its solid.

ya i agree, you are a good rider but like jumpergirl9494 said, you are forward in the jumps, i would sit back in your butt a little more but still be able to lean forward enough to be able to have a comfordable 2-point position. other than that- Good Rider! :)
laurenoc101 2 years ago
if i can tell a bad rider when i see one its you. you're so stupid that you can't tell a good rider when you see one, because you are so used to seeing bad ones. like yourself. so shut up, she knows what shes doing.

lemme guess, you're one of those riders that think they know it all but dont. SHUT THE FUCK UP SHES THE FUCKING HEAD COACH FOR THE HAMPSHIRE COLLEGE EQUESTRIAN TEAM
yournewsdetroit 2 years ago
Um jumpergirl, the cantle is the back of the saddle. The pommel is the front lol :)
jumpergirl2055 2 years ago
Whoever said jumping 7 jumps is too many, think again. It's a great way to keep your horse's attention & focus on fixing other things instead of just focusing on a course. I think the hollow trotting issue that was mentioned should be addressed when doing flatwork, not in the middle of jumping. The only thing I noticed is that you're a little forward over the jumps. Pause at :35 and 1:04, you'll see that your rear is over the cantle of the saddle instead of the back. Otherwise, looks great!

the line looks very nice. On the long sides riding to the line the horse is always hollow to the outside and not carrying weight on his inside hind leg but rather balancing himself against the insight shoulder .....

because as soon as a horse jumps its usually goes into a canter

ya iv been learning to get into the habbit of giving my mare a release but if ur an expert u should already have it in you...
19horselover95 2 years ago
u need to release pour horse she came barely move her head over te jump
GeneralDinky 2 years ago
yeah its not good to jump 7 fences in a row like that smart stuff.....
hunterjumperbabe69 2 years ago
its called a gymnastic line and its used to build the horses strength and flexibility. 7 fences is not too many for an experienced horse or rider; but definitely too many for a horse that is green or out of shape. this video was made by Mara-Keith Hunter; shes the head coach for the Hampshire College equestrian team....i have a feeling she knows what shes doing.
gsukrw06 2 years ago
its best to have a horse that is controllable at a trot over a jump because most people think its best to just run them over a jump. no its about the control inbetween/over/after the jump. Not the speed, speed doesn't matter until you've got the control in hand.
JokessOnYouu 2 years ago
cantering oveer jumps is way more fun than trotting coz trotting em is so borin
ellamabob 2 years ago 2
Yeh. When I trot my horse over the jump, she doesn't do it properly, so she just canters about a metre and a bit away from the jump (:

I love gymnastics but my barn does not allow the course to be changed. Gymnastics build up muscle without jumping the horse hunge all the time and builds up wind! I like alot of small 2'3" up to 2'9" in my gymnastics.

Well ridden! I did bounces in my jumping lesson today. Grid work is something every horse and rider should do. It's great for balance.

Why does everyone insult each others ridng skills? Is this normal in the equestrian world?
sarahsum1 2 years ago 2
haha yep, when they're too scared to say it in real life, they say it in the comments. I like constructive comments, but honestly, the head coach for the Hampshire College equestrian team is not going to listen to these comments on youtube anyways.
Buhbing 2 years ago 2
Haha yes i don't think so either! It's just very odd that some people are so bitchy to one another! I read somewhere that even the top showjumpers etc don't say they are great riders coz there is always something else to learn. Yet a bit of support from fellow riders surely wouldn't be to much to ask!!! ah well such is life :-)

hairyrules123 2 years ago
Actually that is called a backseat, and needed much in 3-day eventing. It takes a long time to get that down.

your good!!! no affence but your 2 point is wierd. love your horse!
melovehorsies 2 years ago
Her 2pt is great. She is very elastic and it helps that her horse is very athletic!

It's good! Just not like mine! I stand up more, with the horse i ride.
melovehorsies 2 years ago
This is actally what 2 point is SUPOSE to look like...Staying up and with the horse, not laying on their necks, or cought up behind the motion landing on their backs and ripping their mouths off.

your horse is so cute! lov the way he jumps
0purple0oranges0 2 years ago
to trackjunky: i don't get your point... you said that your coach said to trot the first jump and canter the rest.. that is exactly what she did...
horsechik 2 years ago
i think she was responding to the comment by chloe1321 of "thats in canter not trot!"
showjumpinluv 2 years ago
canter or trot wither way she jmuped it stop beeing so picky !! , stunning your horse has very light strides and is very floaty, i love doing bounces and doubles and strides, but then agen i fell of onto a jump wing on a third jump of a combination , and it was a roll top, good job i dodnt fall on that !, stunning horse, have you got a video of all 2-7 line becos i cant find them all if you have just reply tothis comment the link/tag thingy-ma-bobby thankyou. good job stunning horse
jumperbbe 2 years ago
she trotted to the jump. my instructor, when i first started jumping, i asked if it was ok if he cantered in between the jumps. her reply was "We are jumping now, you may trot the first fence, you must canter everything else" when it comes to gymnastics anways.
trackjunky789 2 years ago
aww your horse is beautiful! i love his colour! i love doing gymnastics with my horse, they' re soo much fun! :)

melissazc 2 years ago
He jumped that in a canter not a trot
RavensSarora 2 years ago
they trotted in. you don't typically trot through an entire gymnastic. you trot in and canter out.
showjumpinluv 2 years ago
cute horse, hes great. i have a horse just like himm his name is huey.
he jumped it straight and everything!
if you can, please respond giving me some hints on keeping my horse straight while jumping a line or a gymastic!
thanks!
morgan
morgan601 2 years ago
hmm. i know you where not asking me but.
maybe, if he turns a cirtain way you could have a crop/stick/whip in the hand which he turns to, just to back up your leg and hand.
also, if you have problems you could try just having a good few strides before the jumps to get straight, and then just keep your hand and leg even and strong :D
i probably didn't help.
x
sophie8858 2 years ago
lay 2 ground rails in front of a jump, kinda like a chute to keep your horse straight...i've seen it help green horses a lot.
retta2587 2 years ago
the horse i ride is young so he's not very straight either. My instructor tells me after a jump to stop straight instead of to keep going around the corners or something...hope that helps a bit!
ThatsAFunnyName 2 years ago
I think the horse and the rider are good togethter and everyone needs help!! I like the video and I think you should just back off! Its hard enough to ride a horse without people telling her shes not good because she likes it and thats all that matters!!! Good Job
Moseley883 2 years ago
wow thats amazing to watch. lol my 15.2 hand horse won't even jump a jump that is about a foot high.
verryy good though :]
justxplainhxappy 2 years ago
This is basically a comment for "TheEmmaMarything". One of the first things you should learn when riding, is that it is very rare that you know as much as you think you do. Your position is not better than this riders, the grid and the height of it are indeed correct. Perhaps the lesson you should take away is that you need to think before you criticise other riders.....kk?
tderider 2 years ago 2
I that was an okay exercise for your horse, a little too much for my personal taste, but the ride wasn't bad.
FoggedForest947 2 years ago
uhhmm...
you let him have his head more so reall y release those reins and you might wanna get a better position i'm 13 and i have a wayyyy better position than you. that last jump is way too big for the line your doing. it's a good workout but you made it too harcore on your horse. i usually don't critique like this but when i saw this i just had to. so remember what i told u kk?
TheEmmaMarything 2 years ago
yeh i watched your videos and neither one of you ( mary or emma) is better than this lady and her crest release is fine for the height, and that height is not to big for that exercise at all! It could be way bigger and that horse would be fine! The point of gymnastics is to strengthen your horses hind end so its not suppose to be really easy.
Yippyio682 2 years ago
hey emmamarything, why so harsh? I'm not trying to be rude or anything but I doubt you have a better position since your 13. But, everyone has something they need to work on. stop bringing people down
FoggedForest947 2 years ago
Umm.. I had to check your videos out to see if you were actually good, and you couldn't even get the right number of strides down a two foot line, you were constantly ahead of the motion, and you werent wearing a helmet. someone needs an ego check hun
Appylover33 2 years ago
In the horse world everyone is going to have something to say and your not always gonna like it. But being rude to everyone you think does the tiniest thing wrong is not going to get u anywhere in life and if you think u are so much better than that lady then why can u count strides in your head and the horse shouldnt do the striding you should tell them to lengthen or shorten their stride. ur release well....... SUCKS. u Are WAY to forward a Think before u say miss Emma LOTS of love ANNA
Horseback494 2 years ago
I've seen your videos. You do not have a better position then this rider. You lean forward too much and you are all over the place with your reins. The last jump was fine. Haven't you ever seen a gymnastic line lead up to an oxer before? Many people do bounces leading up to jumps way higher then that. I've seen people who use bounces to get to a jump that is 4 feet and higher. If the horse can do it, it's fine. It also teaches the rider a better position. so remember what I told you kk?
bns54913 2 years ago 3
get a better position! my position is better than that and im only 14!!
hunterjumpergal1995 3 years ago
you actually have an ok position, but her horse is obviously hot and she is rather solid. So to everyone telling her to get better eq and crap just shut it, hers is fine, it might not win the maclay but its solid.
Appylover33 2 years ago
your position is actually no where near better than this lady's. get over yourself.
