  • It looks ugly as hell, the color combinations look disgusting and you double layer'd it =/

  • You have to blow the paint around out with hair dryer b4 pulling out the water.

  • i almost lost it when he pulled it out, DON"T DOUBLE LAYER...its ugly

  • @DeaderNBetter That's what she said.

  • what kind of paint?

  • @thenamesfrancisco dont folow this guy he did it so wrong

  • too much paint and u should have waved some of the paint after dipping..

  • You should've told me that BEFORE we did that swirl... but yes, that was our first swirl and we learned about all those problems quickly.

  • what is the name of the paint

  • Plasti-kote enamel paint.

  • did u use water to drip the paint into?

  • Yes it is just water mixed in with some Borax which alters the surface tension of the water and helps the paint float.

  • @pradador

how much Borax did you use for that container size?

    thanks!

  • @nogueradv I can't remember anymore, but it was definitely a good amount.

  • looks good!

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! take off a paint from surface of water before you taking out a piece of wood!!!!!!

  • UGLY....

  • It might be ugly on its own... but it's the best looking swirled shelf out there seeing as there are no others so I can live with that.

  • please tell me all the steps in making the swirl i am wanting to do this to my guitar

  • Ok, let me get this straight; you pour a little oil based enamel on top of water ( it floats), and take a newly spray painted object and dunk it in the water and all the paint sticks to it? Cool.

  • :P, i could of looked better. before you take it out, youre suppose to clear the paint on top of it so it wouldnt double layer

  • Yeahhh we kinda found that out the hard way when we tried to swirl a guitar body. It wasn't too bad on the shelf. On the guitar, it didn't look much like a swirl but rather an odd grassy/camo pattern.

  • Well, you can always redo it....

  • Just a thought, but wouldn't it work and be easier to put the board in clean water, then add the paint on top, so it takes the paint on the way out only???

then there wouldn't be a double layer

  • The right way to do it as people have pointed it out is to move the paint away after dipping with a paper towel.

  • yea is that oil paint

  • We used Plasti-Kote enamel. There's both brush on and spray cans available. We only used the spray paint because we couldn't find appropriate colors in brush on.

  • Hey can you please tell me the brand of paint you used (also was it urethane or oil paint)?

    Thanks.

  • Hi Man...Loving your tests!...i'm doing the same thing here for my guitar!...what type of paint did you use for the swirl??...Spray???...the green one was spary right??...cheers!

  • you dipped it twice by not clearing the paint away before you pulled out. i bet it was all clumpy and took you forever to sand down to clear it huh? just a good pointer. noone ever told me so i learned myself. oh and a wet-vac helps dry and pull out any extra paint. good luck with future projects. peace
