  • The Lemmings over the cliff was a hoax film made by film makers that wished to cause a sensation!! Lemmings actually do not do this 'over the cliff thing'! But I do appreciate Koa's message here though!

  • but it s very narrow concept of freedom

  • Now I know why I buy some many video games and DVD's. I'm not happy with my life because I'm being controled by other people. I'm not as free as I want to be. Thanks fopr uploading this video. It really showed me some stuff I needed to see.

  • I love it. Difficult for anyone to try & explain what this chap is doing without sounding like you are a hypocrite, but whilst the system exists, one is forced to be a part of it no matter how little. When the system breaks down, then he will be able to go the whole hog.

    Excellent, well done.

    Regards, Le Loup.

  • Are those plants in Hawaii ? Where I live ?

  • He's one blessed man.... Grown up on self sustaining farm and his parents are millionaires .... We should be so lucky.... Peace.....

  • i love his speech!

  • I couldnt find these vids anywhere to buy, not ebay. not amazon, no where online

  • @RoastLambShanks hi the first 3 docos are on ebay for sale just search for koa bush tucker survival

  • Bottom line: He's saying some cool shit in this video and I ALWAYS check multiple sources for the edibility of plants. Even the books make mistakes sometimes...

  • this is totally lovely.

  • This guy i a fucking legend. Real as fuk, no nonsese, straight up legend

  • Excellent Video.

And much enjoyable, to listen to him.

  • It's possible to do this with out living in the bush. The message is "Quit being a corporate puppet and become self sufficient." It will be to late to learn these skills when all is gone. Your purpose in this life is to survive, period.

  • Being able to proved for yourself is to me just one little part...

  • I don't want freedom i want to be put in a straight jacket and shut in a small room and meicated to nothingness

  • You're funny!

How about we add fluroescent lights? No windows? Lots of processed food? etc

  • life is really not about quantity, its about quality.

  • if life is getting water and food a lot sometimes it is quantity :) how much water you drink :)

  • i respect Koa, the way he is able to live and be happy. i respect his perceptions, but i don't agree with him. i don't think the 'people riding on their yachts or whatever they do' aren't in control and harvest people. its through the globalization of the world, specialization and diversification that people live the way they are, especially not because the politicians want to start a world war 3, i believe. i do believe that living simply is superior, but its not the world we live in today.

  • @mashj50 and Koa thank you for sharing these videos as well as making the world a better place for everyone! :)

"..be the change you want to see in the world.." -Gandhi

  • i dont want to get into a negative attack on koa, but in the dvd he said it was safe, and we didnt question that, so we have eaten quite a bit of billy goat weed over time. :(

we ate more than one species of billy goat weed. i talked to a friend and they said that there is two species of billy goat weed supposedly, ageratum conyzoides and ageratum houstonianum.

  • thanks for the information i will make sure that any reprintings of Koa2 have this reference removed there are so many safe plants to eat so why encourage people to eat this plant when it is clearly not as well tested and tried as others, Luckily this plant has not been refered to by name in our docos, I appreciate the way you have presented the information and we have taken note earlier interactions on this subject were counter productive and only created disharmony, thanks for your maturity

  • thanx mashj50.

also maybe koa could review the universal edibility test in koa2 because it didnt work very well with billy goat weed.

    thank you.

  • So I guess your solution will be to tell everybody to go on a raw food diet to avoid getting cancer from eating billy got weed.

  • Please note in the last quote:

    longer period of time

    and:

    carcinomas

  • Exposure over a longer period of time causes cell enlargement (megalocytosis), veno-occlusion in liver and lungs, fatty degeneration, nuclei enlargement with increasing nuclear chromatin, loss of metabolic function, inhibition of mitosis, fatty degeneration, proliferation of biliary tract epithelium, liver cirrhosis, nodular hyperplasia, and adenomas or carcinomas.

  • Acute poisoning causes massive hepatotoxicity with hemorrhagic necrosis.

Chronic poisoning takes place mainly in liver, lungs, and blood vessels, and in some instances kidneys, pancreas, gastrointestinal tract, bone marrow, and brain.

  • Also in the same paper:

Table 2. List of the tumorigenic pyrrolizidine alkaloid-containing Chinese herbal plants grown in China

    Family Asteraceae (Compositae)

    Plant: Ageratum conyzoides L.

Herb name in Chinese: Sheng hong ji

    Medicinal purpose: Common colds, fever,

    Tumorigenic pyrrolizidine alkaloid: Lycopsamine

  • lycopsamine in billy goat weed is also listed as a carcinogenic compund in another wikipedia link:

Recent mechanistic studies indicate that pyrrolizidine alkaloids induce tumors via a genotoxic mechanism mediated by 6,7-dihydro-7-hydroxy-1-hydrox-

ymethyl-5H-pyrrolizine (DHP)-derived DNA adduct formation. This mechanism may be general to most carcinogenic pyrrolizidine alkaloids.

  • The reference said:

Poisoning of animals that consume the plants is worldwide phenomenon and toxicity in humans can also occur through herbal remedies or from grains contaminated by seeds of pyrrolizidine alkaloid containing weeds.

and: Preliminary analysis of grain samples from Ethiopia has demonstrated the presence of lycopsamine and acetyl lycopsamine in many of the samples.

  • so for the poison to be in the seed it also has to be in the developing seed within the flower because once the seed is mature its no longer connected with the vascular system of the plant.

Also if you eat the flower you consume man than just the petals, one eats the green base and stem too.

  • I followed the Ageratum conyzoides Wikipedia links.

there is a paper that refers to the seeds of billy goat weed being poisonous. pyrrolizidine alkaloids are produced in the roots of plants and transferred via the phloem around the plant.

so the poison has to move into the seed from the roots during the seed development stage - i.e flower.

  • Mashj50, you mean that you are hoping that a few flowers a day wont cause liver cancer.

Usually cancer wont show up for years.

In effect koa is conducting an experiment with a known carcinogen.

Sounds like a botanical version of russian roulette.

  • I think you need to do some research on how Cancer works ,firstly it's a yeast and secondly cancer cannot manifest in a body that is in an alkaline state, how do you achieve an akaline state in the body? by eating raw green safe plant material, that's one way. Also important in maintaining health and longevity is the comsumption of trace elements and minerals derived from plants , show me the research stating that billy goat weed flowers contain known carcinogens and we'll review the information

  • p.s. also nothing i read says that the flowers dont contain the liver poisons.

so better to be cautious i think

    thanx mashj50

love and peace to all, elsonV

  • i love koa

but i read some of the references

    and i agree with kainburt

now i have to tell my kids not to eat billy goat weed :(

  • Comment removed

  • thanks for the info good to know, as Koa says in our Koa 2 dvd he eats just 1 or 2 flower heads every day and has been doing this for a long time and this is also the only thing he has suggessted doing with this plant he doesn't mention of encourage the ingestion of anything other part of the plant he also states that it should only be eaten in a survival situation our dvd's are about survival they are not culinary dvd's for chef's and dining enthusiasts common sense also helps

  • i just googled ageratum conyzoides as you suggested mashj50 and i found the wiki page and it said this:

    Uses

It has medicinal plant properties. However, it's limited for internal use due to toxicity issues. It is also an insecticide and nematicide. [3]

    Toxicity

Ingesting A. conyzoides can cause liver lesions and tumors.[4][5] The plant contains the pyrrolizidine alkaloids lycopsamine and echinatine. [6]

  • also notice that it'e edibility rating is 0 which means it's not nice to eat / the flower of this plant is the only thing we mention and we mention that it's one or two flowers a day not ripping the plant up for a feast every night this dill kainebutt has not only got his information dead wrong but he's also been very aggressive in his attitude so I have blocked him to prevent my tourettes getting out of hand not good for thr kiddies

  • mashj50 thanx for the range of references.

can i suggest that we give kainbutt the chance to reply.

i would like to view their references to.

  • my children and i love koa.

we enjoy the dvds very much

but if there is plants with debatible safety then i want to know about it.

i have the series and there is a plant that koa says is safe to eat that looks very like the billy goat weed in my garden

but he doesnt say what it is.

  • Also Pacon, there's been a mass poisoning in Ethopia with billy goat weed as the prime suspect via contamination of cereals resulting in liver damage.

Also, it's a big mistake to confuse medicinal plants with food plants. See how far you get if you try and live off paracetemol...don't! You wont have much of a liver left...in much the same way as with billy goat weed.

By the way, pyrrolizidine alkaloids, present in billy goat weed, are one of the toxin groups in Senecio.

    Do your homework.

  • Be aware. Koa has been encouraging children to eat poisonous plants like billy goat weed. But rather than come clean and pull the DVDs off the shelf and remove them from internet sales, and take responsibility for the dangerous situation that he has created, he still allows the misinformation to be sold because he's getting money from it. That's the real truth! Wisdom??!! ...bullshit!

  • blue billy goat weed is edible

used more for intestinal issues yet

nearly all asteraceae flowers are edible

    excluding senico

  • Pacon, don't invite me to your place for dinner.

You want to know how poisonous billy goat weed is:

"..post-mortem examination revealed bloody serous fluid in coccyx-femoral joints and hemorrhages in the large muscle tissues, while liver, kidney and heart also had hemorrhages."

    and:

"Histopathological examination showed extensive liver lesions.."

  • what interests me is your aggressive attitude to the information presented in these dvd's you seem to have attached yourself to one percieved flaw which is debatable and seem intent on discrediting all the valuable information contained within, your arguement seems to be that if one supposed mistake is present then all is to be disregarded which of course is laughable please provide us with your dvd's so we can evaluate your contribution to help others to gain useful empowering information

  • "..one percieved flaw.."?

Then why does Koa himself admit in more recent DVDs that "I actually made some mistakes.." in his first DVD?? I thought you filmed that ?

So as it turns out billy goat weed is not the only mistake on wild food safety that Koa has made.

So Koa is working it out as he goes.

Big problem - people are eating those "mistakes".

I have no problem with his basic message of living simply, but his specific wild food advice is dangerous.

  • point 1 the dvd you refer to is not on sale online, point 2 they aren't for sale anywhere anymore, point 3 no one is going to live off billy goat weed as a result of this dvd's as koa says in a survival situation it can be consumed ask yourself how many kids or adults for that matter are going to eat a lot of a plant that tastes as unpleasant as billy goat weed ? this plant came from south america 150 years ago there pages of recorded medicinal uses for this plant, check tropical data base

  • Why did I see copies of Walking Softly With Koa 2 for sale in a shop today!

In fact, there have been both children and adults eating billy goat weed on a regular basis because of the DVDs and Koas workshops. Some people are very upset to find out about the toxicity issue.

As to medicinal use being a basis for safety as a food, I'll repeat what I said:

"... it's a big mistake to confuse medicinal plants with food plants."

The dosage is very different, and billy goat weed is not safe!

  • I think you might be a bit thick as I mentioned before there is no mention of billy goat weed in any of our films , you are repeating yourself .I suggest you go make your own film and correct all of these percieved mistakes as for your opinions on our films you can shove them very politely where the sun don't shine constructive criticism is always appreciated but you seem to be on some sort of let's bag KOA cruscade if you keep up this mindless repeating I'm going to block you

  • mashj50, i'm well aware of the medicinal use of billy goat weed - that in itself is a concern - but where is there any references to it being used as a regular food item?

There is no substantial traditional reference for billy weed as a food because it's poisonous in food-like doses!

Now, there are children eating billy goat weed thinking its safe because of the impression Koa gave.

As for being "debatable" - with whom? Anyone can say lantana is safe - it doesn't mean it's debatable.

  • I couldn't agree more with this fascinating man..

  • God bless him; what a fantastic human being! So will most live who will not accept the mark in that ignominious day.

  • i just saw the end of this on tv and it really reached out to me

  • This was on T.V.?

    Amazing.

  • Take a good long look and listen people. This is what a

real human being sounds like. Notice he's not worried or stressed about the usual BS. Just happy and pleasantly

living in perfect perpetual balance with nature.

  • Although I admire the idea of living off the land, it'd be a disaster if everyone started deserting cities and living in the wild impulsively. If we can't clean up the mess we've made on the land we already use, I don't see why nature would take kindly to us just sweeping it under the rug and going somewhere else.

Before anything like "authentic freedom" can take place on a large scale, we need a radical shift in thinking. There are reasons we don't have true freedom right now.

  • That's a very autocratic and simplistic view of human concourse; the illuminati are not about to allow this way of life to be championed for the average shmo. Plus you don't see him surrounded by 12 children and that's a considerable portion of the problem: our social inability to do anything about the deliberate limitation ie management of our total population. That leaves the door wide open for genocidal policies you wouldn't believe. Peace.

  • This is how we were meant to live...just think how perfect it would be. My uncle lives like this...he goes by the name caveman and he lives off the land. He's the same age as this man and has never worked but odd jobs in his life. Whole family thinks he's crazy as a loon. But to me, aside from his stories of being constantly followed by aliens who are trying to set him up, I'd say he's perfectly fine and actually quite intelligent.

  • A wonderful video, thanks for posting :)

  • Very cool share, Spellgrounds. THanks, my friend. I was just talking about how you and I came across eachother the other day. A meant to be, excellent sharing! Namaste

  • Yah ... That s relley a good way of life... experiencing the nature .. you now I whan t that 2 but I ll miss the technology ... and people are 2 manipulated to get how things work ... Knowlegde is missing ...

  • brentel81 can you point out what you feel is one sided view ?

    I m genuinly interested.

  • i try to sprout apple seeds in pots but it s not working, anyone can help ?

otherwise i started garlic and basil...

  • It brings tears to my eyes how much I badly want to start something similar!

  • I LOVE this video and the things he mentions. I can't wait until this school semester is over and I can go and start something very similar!!!

  • He's right. Look what modern society does to people.

Here are some statistics: 50% of the population has or will have a serious personality disorder.

I don't think anyone is really happy or lives a stress free life.

  • Best and most clear video I've watched on You Tube in a long long while. Beautifully said, and simple too.

Thank you all for the work on this... Subscribed now and avidly looking at more of the videos.

Koa looks good at 64 ish years old?

  • ok 56 years old ( I just saw another video) .

    Wonderful view of life

  • why does it look like this guy is green screened,

  • I assure you he's not it's just a nice place where we filmed it

  • Just a quick question - how did/does his family (wife & kid?) fit into his lifestyle?

  • they don't any more the kids grew up and got on with their own lives living in America and so did his partner then Koa moved to Australia

  • Some very one sided views but this is a great video. Love what you have done and am actually going on a trip in the outback for a few months to try exactly what you have done.

  • "Coward because i didn't want to kill people". Our entire nation has this delusion of masculinity. I have disowned friends because they have thrown gernades through windows in Iraq and tried to rationalize it while eating Zoloft for years. I tried to tell them its their "soul" trying to repent and denying the depression delays healing. This corp. machine will break or become stronger than ever in the next 5 years. Spread liberty by building community.

  • thanks for the positive feedback on our work it's appreaciated if you get time watch mark McMurtries stuff on my chanel his perspective on the legal system will blown you away I am in the process of work with another legal actavist also so stay tuned there will be ne content coming soon

  • you can't trust anyone who doesn't love you! wisdom and discernment...

  • What we get is feeling like 6 billion rats in a cage. Eating each others waste products.

  • E C S ellent

  • Gawddamn right it is. This feels like if Studs Turkel got to interview Thoreau at Walden Pond or something. This man is a wealth of the kind of wisdom you'll never get in a classroom.

  • yeah i do have some limited survival skills as i used to live in various woods in benders road protesting and whatnot and it was the best time of my life; i picked up quite a lot; it's like Alan Watt says "cities are traps" but for 'cities' read any modern community. This guy just strips away so many of the inessential points and gives it to you straight the way only those living what they say can do

  • this guy has a fantastic, happy aura..............just how it should be. Living from his heart , you can't go wrong.xxxx

  • and look how lean and at ease with himself he is; i've subbed to mashj50 and'll be tuning into his other stuff

    outta here gnight

  • So awesome ... I loved it and agreed with every word of it!!! Beyond 5 stars my friend, thank you!

  • im with koa.

  • Whoever one starred this is an idiot!lol *****
