I was sad and shocked that she didn't make it...esp. when there are lesser singers who did make it (witness many of last night's pitiful performances). I'm happy for her that Ellen is giving her a break HOWEVER, I'm not so sure it makes up for her not getting on the Top 24 because exposure is important. Good luck Angela!!

You produce these shows, you produce music, you write lyrics, you have talk shows that tell tear jerking stories for one thing.....RATINGS which equals MONEY! Everyone you mention has a decent music career (Johns) or an excellent music career (Daughtry, Hudson, Pickler). The show obviously serves it's purpose since we know who they are and are able to buy their albums. And a side note, Angela technically was not 'voted' off because she never made it past Hollywood. We even weren't able to vote for her. The producers definitely screwed up on this one, but the others you mention are irrelevant here cuz they are succeeding... due to AI.

I have loved Angela every year she tried out. I have really wanted her to get in. Angela is really insoiring and Ellen and Kara are amazing for doing this for her. You know - when they didn't let her into the top 24 in such a dramatic fashion I started to wonder what was up! I was sitting there scratching my head thinking, what are they doing?". Now its pretty clear. They snatched her right out of the grueling competition and are pushing her right through. She may as well have won AI because she is set now. And honestly....it couldn't happen to a more deserving person. She has a ton of potential and a unique voice. I like her. I really do! Smart.

I love the positive nature of what idol and Ellen and Kara are doing with Angela Martin. In this world of irate people flying planes into IRS buildings and teachers shooting their peers in conferences, we can make call upon goodness to makes things right for others. @MrMark17... this is not politics, this is the music industry. There's nothing that says the process or the outcome has to be fair. She got kicked off the show, but they really believe she's got a compelling story and that's half the bacon when it comes to promoting an artist these days. Just cuz she wasn't right for Idol doesn't mean she won't be a great performer. Idol looks for a very specific thing. Lots of people don't fall into that box and are still amazing and talented.

Several ex-contestants have also worked with idol judges afterwards. Randy Jackson executive produced Brooke's post-idol CD, for example. Why is this situation so different?

@idolfanpg So you're saying that the eliminated contestants don't care if they get signed or not? I doubt that and I bet every contestant that has been eliminated would love a deal from Ellen & Kara. As for those who worked with the judges, the key word is "afterwards" - the contest is over and everyone is free to pursue whatever they want. As for Brooke (I assume you mean Brooke White) she made it to the top 5 which is a big difference. No use arguing...time will tell

I FELT THAT HUG. She seems so internally beautiful to come from such a phukk'dup family. If her heart is genuine, I have no doubt that God will be with her, so I feel more compassion than sorrow for her circumstances.

Even more priceless is Ellen's connection with genuine souls. It's consistent and she never has to try too hard because it it's so natural...because SHE is natural.

I feel sorry for this girl and all the tragic events that she's had to go through how ever, it isn't fair that just because Ellen liked her she should get special treatment and get an automatic record deal. Isn't that what competing on Idol is for? She didn't make it to the top 24. There were other singers better then her that got booted off but once again, Ellen is going to use her celebrity status to give someone a break just because she can. I don't agree with this, it's not fair.

If Angela does get a record deal, it's really no different than any other former idol contestant getting a record deal. Winning the show guarantees that you'll be signed. But losing shouldn't guarantee that you won't - whether that's with 19 or not.

@idolfanpg For Angela to get a record deal is fantastic, but for 2 judges who were part of the decision making process to do this seems like bias. What happens to the remaining contestants when they are eliminated? Should they get a record deal from the judges or should they have to go and fight to get through the doors of the record companies? Not everyone who makes it to the top 24 signs a deal down the road.

FYI, Tori Kelly who was in Round 3 HAS a record deal with Geffen. Carly Smithson AND Michael Johns had A RECORD DEAL WHILE BEING A TOP 24 CONTESTANT. Carly had an MCA deal THE TIME WHEN RANDY WAS STILL WORKIN FOR THEM.
