  • my spectrum analyzer is set to the exact same settings as your but it has alot more waves in the line to the right of the bass thump. any ideas on why that is?

  • @mts09003 hmmm good question. could you post a capture of the process from start to the waves so we could take a look?

  • I use a similar technique for all of my kicks! I've responded to this with a song of mine using entirely synthesized drums.

  • For some reason.. the mode, rate, and level features are missing on my operator... is there a way to make them appear? or am i just retarded?

  • i have ableton 8 and theres isnt an operator function, is there a way of me getting it or anything i can use instead of?

  • @TheKonceptmusic you need ableton live 8 suite. the full version basically.

  • Why does it show James Teej as the artist under the likes?

  • this guy's voice reminds me of the movie Primer

  • I didn't know Matt Heafy used Ableton.

  • sry but it isnt deep at all...

i just be wanna be able to build a sven wittekind kick drum !!

  • don't know if you I really like the end result in this video. The kick drum seems too muddy.

  • you sound like a main character of a movie

  • is there a reference chart or something for hrtz to corresponding keys?

  • I love your voice, I need you to speak in some lines for a track :d

  • Very nice tutorial. I'm roughly starting on Ableton and I would like to learn to do make some stuffs from the rott first. But dude... Be a little bit more enthousiastic :D kidding, nice talking, clear and straightforward like it has already be said :)

  • Is there a way to make it more bright?? It sounds a little dull to me...

    Thank you..

  • Thank you!!

  • And now let's add a snare drum on 3 and 4!

  • how come you cant copy from oscilator a to b in the new live??

  • Colb, thats a great tutorial... Nice work. Gunna try this one when I get back to the lab

  • so I draw in my bass drum pattern, but for some reason the notes are the color pink(making the bass softer hitting) than the red ones....anybody have any clue why this is?

  • @CuddleOscar that's your velocity, under each note you will see you can drag up and down the volume of any given note (or drum) fill-in. There is a Velocity lane below the sequencer indicating. Hope you've found this out by now!

  • very cool, simple tutorial... excellent for someone like me who is just getting started. THanks!

  • thank you so much!. my kicks were sounding shockingly thin (even from samples), but this has fattened them right up!

  • very good video,

    thanks mate...

could you make a video about how to make a very deep, smooth deephouse bass line? :-)

  • how do i put this into my drum rack!?!!?

  • @fitshuck To put it in your drum rack, create an audio channel. Set the input on your new audio channel to receive the operator. Record the hit to a new clip. Create a drum rack track and drag the clip to a slot on the rack and your good!

  • I'm doing everything exactly as you do in the video, but I can't get my kick as deep as yours........any ideas what the problem might be?

  • @byonicbeats I put my midi notes at E3 just like in the video, but still sounds high. I must be missing something...

  • exellent!

  • amazing.. thanx a bunch

  • oh my god! i didn't know this way to make a kick.. it is so powerful! great tutorial!

    make more of them!

  • I don't know if this is just because I'm 16 years old and you (LoveCapacitator) sound well into your adulthood but there's a distinct high pitched ringing sound in the kick I thought I should point out. Just don't use this kick in any song you play to teenagers or it'll drive them nuts :P

  • ableton rules.

  • Gee. That sounds just like some of my sampled kicks.

  • whats the ringing up high?

  • Nice Kick =D

  • Your voice; I could seriously listen to it all day. Great vid!

  • How come in the pitch envelope you can move the release up and down? I can only move mine side to side.

  • Very useful, well explained and great result. Thanks. :)

  • thanks man, this is great to make a kick with some real Body, also great to combine with other wav' kicks

  • YES!!

  • correct me if I'm wrong LoveCapacitor, but operator is an FM synth... pretty sure you're modulating A by B, not adding A to B

  • @djjezza If you pause the video at 1m 50s the highlighted oscillator configuration will give you the A by B you are referring to.

  • @LoveCapacitor thanks very much - didn't realise you could change the summing modes in operator when i made the comment (new to operator)

thanks for clearing that up - operator is WAY more useful now!

  • finally one NICE tutorial for ableton! Thank you very much!

  • good tut 5/5

  • You can make much much bigger and better kicks on a virus. =]

Still, true analog will destroy both my kick and yours. Which is why we have samples lol

  • @Nemisis99 i agree but you can get a warm mix with an ssl 9000 mixing console...but we all dont have that.. my moog can produce a fat kick but most people cant afford one, virus sounds great all the way around , also what do you mean by "destroy your kick and mine" thanks buddy oh which virus do you have? just curious peace

  • cheers

    now thats shaping a kick

  • Never thougt of adding the two OSCs in different frequencies.. Thanks for sharing.. Operator forever.. Best tool out there..

  • Xlnt tutorial. Your explanations are clear and direct, and your A/B shows clearly what to expect. Great job. Do some more tutorials, wouldya?

  • "kinda hard to hear, but you'll definitely FEEL it"

    fucking A man! :]

  • Thank you for this post, it's very useful

  • party boy shoulda made an appearance in this vid

  • this can be done with a lot of things to fatten them up also percussion wise

  • Wow thanks

  • very nice trick, till now I only used 1 osc and my kicks sounded quite basic thanks

  • tnx

  • Thanks a lot, The operator kick is better than any kick sample I ever had. So punchy and fat, I love it and this tutorial, you should do more

  • Aww yea I can feel it!

  • awesome man, this was really useful

  • would you recommend ableton

    over reason or cubase?

  • absolutly.

  • wow some tutorial never knew u could make a kick drum out of operator

  • sick kick, no more ripping off deadmau5 kicks for me!

  • thanks for the tutorial. i never knew you could use operator like that.

  • Great stuff, much appreciated.

  • awesome! thanks a lot

  • Thank you so much! Ive been looking for a tutorial like this for ages :) GJ

  • filter on kick?

man.... ableton filter gives some noise even u dont move the frequency...

u better do it with a EQ becouse youve looseing so much of deep sound

  • You're the man LoveCap. Does anyone know how to synthesize a "clap" or"snap" w/ Operator? having a little trouble w/ that..

  • LoveCap, you're the man. Quick question, do you ( or any one ) know how to synthesize a "snap" or "clap" w/ Operator? I'm having a little trouble w/ that.

  • im almost blown away

    what is all of this?

    operators, frequencies

i mean my kick sounds exactly the same and thank you a lot for this tutorial, but i just dont understand the tiniest bit of what the hell i am doing..

  • in my Abl Live... It does not sound like your kick

  • Thanks for the tip, I'll try it out.

  • Nice tip, thanks!

  • This is a cool trick. I'm assuming that it's a psychoacoustic effect, no? If so, where did you pick it up? Very esoteric. Kind of like an "undertone" effect.

  • I was wondering why you don't have more tutorials. personally I found your voice to be *excellent* for video tutorials - you could be on the radio - and your concise speaking and thinking help a lot. very clear and straightforward. the handling of the spektrum was maybe a bit too fast but I got it right.

  • hey LC just to let you you know I tried it out and had wonderful results. I can not only "feel" it as I can surely "listen it" in my KRK rockit5 monitors. I think your result is a good starting point for many good kicks with a "power chord". I managed to get the kick I was looking for. for some time I have been looking for a good synth kick tutorial and yours was the answer so thanks !!!

  • great technique it makes a lot of sense I will try it out

  • very nice approach, but it doesn't sound any different from some of the preset kicks that come with live.

  • And that is a very valid observation! It is in fact very hard to hear but you can most definitely feel the difference. This is an excellent example of the split that occurs between producing for listing versus producing for experience. For listening this approach will produce nothing for almost everyone.

  • For performance, assuming you have a sound system that can reproduce it, this approach will modulate a tone that is nearing the low end capacity of the systems ability to reproduce the upper note with the lower note with gives the feeling of a note that is even lower then capable by the system producing the sound.

  • @markosstratos Are you kidding me? LOL . those presets are garbage in comparision. -_-

  • it works! thanks! )
