my spectrum analyzer is set to the exact same settings as your but it has alot more waves in the line to the right of the bass thump. any ideas on why that is?
Very nice tutorial. I'm roughly starting on Ableton and I would like to learn to do make some stuffs from the rott first. But dude... Be a little bit more enthousiastic :D kidding, nice talking, clear and straightforward like it has already be said :)
so I draw in my bass drum pattern, but for some reason the notes are the color pink(making the bass softer hitting) than the red ones....anybody have any clue why this is?
@CuddleOscar that's your velocity, under each note you will see you can drag up and down the volume of any given note (or drum) fill-in. There is a Velocity lane below the sequencer indicating. Hope you've found this out by now!

im a 15 year old looking to get mentored in being a dj and trance producer. here are some of my mixes done with software on my computer and no equipment
I don't know if this is just because I'm 16 years old and you (LoveCapacitator) sound well into your adulthood but there's a distinct high pitched ringing sound in the kick I thought I should point out. Just don't use this kick in any song you play to teenagers or it'll drive them nuts :P
@Nemisis99 i agree but you can get a warm mix with an ssl 9000 mixing console...but we all dont have that.. my moog can produce a fat kick but most people cant afford one, virus sounds great all the way around , also what do you mean by "destroy your kick and mine" thanks buddy oh which virus do you have? just curious peace
LoveCap, you're the man. Quick question, do you ( or any one ) know how to synthesize a "snap" or "clap" w/ Operator? I'm having a little trouble w/ that.
This is a cool trick. I'm assuming that it's a psychoacoustic effect, no? If so, where did you pick it up? Very esoteric. Kind of like an "undertone" effect.
I was wondering why you don't have more tutorials. personally I found your voice to be *excellent* for video tutorials - you could be on the radio - and your concise speaking and thinking help a lot. very clear and straightforward. the handling of the spektrum was maybe a bit too fast but I got it right.
hey LC just to let you you know I tried it out and had wonderful results. I can not only "feel" it as I can surely "listen it" in my KRK rockit5 monitors. I think your result is a good starting point for many good kicks with a "power chord". I managed to get the kick I was looking for. for some time I have been looking for a good synth kick tutorial and yours was the answer so thanks !!!
And that is a very valid observation! It is in fact very hard to hear but you can most definitely feel the difference. This is an excellent example of the split that occurs between producing for listing versus producing for experience. For listening this approach will produce nothing for almost everyone.
For performance, assuming you have a sound system that can reproduce it, this approach will modulate a tone that is nearing the low end capacity of the systems ability to reproduce the upper note with the lower note with gives the feeling of a note that is even lower then capable by the system producing the sound.

@mts09003 hmmm good question. could you post a capture of the process from start to the waves so we could take a look?

I use a similar technique for all of my kicks! I've responded to this with a song of mine using entirely synthesized drums.

correct me if I'm wrong LoveCapacitor, but operator is an FM synth... pretty sure you're modulating A by B, not adding A to B
djjezza 1 year ago
@djjezza If you pause the video at 1m 50s the highlighted oscillator configuration will give you the A by B you are referring to.
LoveCapacitor 1 year ago 7
@LoveCapacitor thanks very much - didn't realise you could change the summing modes in operator when i made the comment (new to operator)
thanks for clearing that up - operator is WAY more useful now!
