  • Tetraamine Copper (II) Nitrate is considered more stable then most Primary Explosives, except for Lead Azide. All Primary explosives should be handled with sensitivity and care though.

  • You also got Tetramine Copper permanganate and Tetramine Copper chloride, They are both high explosives as well.

  • u just keep adding copper

    LOL :P

  • So you are saing this is very dangerous and you did make it by exident.

Then you flush it down the toilet and then you make it again?

First, why dump something down the toilet?

When you take a shit your toilet will explode, how are u gonna expain that to your mom?

Then you make it again and you dont have a toilet to get rid of it.

so... you are gonna ask a friend to dump it or what?

  • Although I appreciate that you are warning the public of the sensitivity of certain explosives, I feel that you are greatly exaggerating the sensitivity of this compound. It is reasonably safe if you stick to rather small quantities when compared to something like mercury fulminate. Also, it's not a "very high explosive"; in fact, its VoD is quite low.

  • you use your hand to scope the chemical ?

  • Ya i kind of made solid TACN before tee hee.

  • What's the molar mass of tetramine? Well, whatever it is, divide it by ten thousand. Now how many milligrams of it would you have? Is that little bit of it still dangerous?

  • What is that supposed to mean?

all you get there is some dirty pieces of copper with no effect at all.

to expect some reaction you should at least use ultra fine copper powder or else it will newer react

  • This reacion will not give you TACN. Its very slow. And the compound TACN is not as explosive as you think. Your matchbox at home is much more dangerous.

  • @AlChemicalLife Relax. Dig a hole, bury it. Or, even better, keep it and use it for fireworks. HAHA boom is funneh.

  • @pyroscience42 yes its a dark deep blue, most tetraaminecopper complexes are blue

  • Its actually not that dangerous if you keep the quantities to a couple of grams, and resist the urge to eat it :D

  • @thefireisfun123

LOL. Snorting it could also be a temptation.

  • @thefireisfun123 HA! HA! Good one!

  • o shit i have a lot of this shit shit shit crap i guse i have to dig a ditch and detanate it with a blasting cap with the bomb squad. i have 1000ml of this i thought it made copper nitrate cause u thought i did the eqaution rite but i guse i didnt

  • @AlChemicalLife

    Huh?

  • why did you even put Copper in ammonium nitrate solution in te first place

  • tetraminecopper complexes have a very distinct dark blue colour, Cu + 2NH4NO3 = (NH3)4Cu(NO3)2, this reaction does not balance, if you added an equal amount of ammonia in moles to the ammonium nitrate then the ammonium hydroxide will react with the copper to copper hydroxide, a displacement reaction will occur

  • between copper hydroxide and ammonium nitrate, and it will make copper nitrate, since its in an ammonia rich soloution it will convert to tetraaminecopper nitrate 2NH4NO3 + Cu + 2NH3 = (NH3)4Cu(NO3)2 + H2

  • it only really only explodes very well when exposed to extreme shock or a primary explosive. although there still is a very bad idea to store or even make TACN. i keep mine in solution when not using it.

  • TACN isn't produced in this reaction. it is made by taking a a solution of 20 g of copper sulfate and 13 g of ammonium nitrate ( forming copper (II) nitrate and ammonium sulfate). and adding concentrated ammonia until the Copper (II) hydroxide formed redissolves . then adding about 200ml of acetone and putting it in to the freezer then filtering and washing the crystals with acetone and letting dry. also TACN doesn't explode very easily on heating. in fact i have ever gotten it to explode.

  • @spotlightman1234

    exactly..

  • does that also happen if i add copper(II)nitrate?

  • @uut0 no idea and u shouldn't try what part of extremely dangerous are u missing? :P

  • @TheChemlife curious me was wondering :P

  • @TheChemlife

You do realize that many people actually use it as a high explosive, and for that reason they add copper oxide to NH4NO3? LOL

You get extremely dangerous when you mix hydrogen peroxide with acetone and add citric acid to it. That is DANGEROUS. As well as few other stupid things teenie bombers do.

  • @dawson01912 You'll need a stronger catalyst than citric acid if you want this to be succesfull you know.

  • @TheChemlife ya know uut0 might have been asking because he/she accidentally mixed it like you did. so tearing him/her down for asking about using copper(ii)nitrate might be un-called for. I mixed Cu(ii)Cl on purpose last night trying to make copper nitrate and ammonium chloride. thought I had no clue about this dangerous compound, sounds like I might have made a little bit?

  • My bad, theres 2 as. Its only a shock/friction explosive, not heat:

    watch?v=YEAmRyNptAI

now the perchlorate... thats a synthesis I might try :)

    watch?v=m8lOBic1NJ0

though I tend to stay away from explosives...

  • @hkparker that's even more dangerous :P but the reason i made this video is because of how easy a mistake it is to make so i was doing it more of a warning for new comers kinda thing. like if i can make this mistake it's just as easy for anyone else to.

  • @TheChemlife Yea thats a good point, we've all ran into those situations before. I mean just the other day I accidentally made CO! Fortunately I was working with by far enough safety equipment/procedures so nothing got out of control but a good reminder of why technique is so important.

  • @hkparker funny thing is this is now the second time i've accidentally made a high explosive.... hehehe

  • @TheChemlife haha be safe there! what was the first one?

  • @hkparker no this was the second. the first was a long time ago. i was being an idiot and trying to extract a chemical out of liquid plumber because i was to cheap to buy it and the solvent reacted with another chemical in the mix and formed a high explosive. i dumped it before anything bad happened but i got a good scare because it's an exothermic reaction (slightly) and heat sets it off so it was really dangerous. hence the reason i made this video

  • @TheChemlife Oh wow, yea well its a good point, to be aware of what might happen in a reaction, and to always be prepared. You dont want to be caught off guard with something like that. Well anyway stay safe, and glad to see some new videos!

  • @hkparker i actually have a bunch more videos made but will be slowly releasing them as they get finished off. i have 2 that just need one clip and then i realize them and 2 that im making friday/Saturday aslo to be released shortly.

  • @TheChemlife Cool! Hopefully ill home some up soon as well too

  • I dont think tetramine copper (II) nitrate is THAT dangerous. I mean I wouldnt suggest making it unless your experienced with explosives! But im more afraid of TATP or silver acetylide, and ive made all of them. If its in solution it should be pretty easy to destroy.

  • i might but just youtube it theres a few videos of it going off

  • Make a video where this stuff explodes :D

  • Lesson learnt :) of course now i'm going to go looking for a video of it exploding lol

  • @sephirothsoul999 Naturally.
