Despite heavy cuts, I think this movie does the opera justice, thanks to excellent performers. Reizen's voice and acting are beyond outstanding, I cannot imagine anyone will ever surpass him as Dosifei. Which is ironic since Reizen was a Jew from a family of mine workers and Dosifei was a devoted Christian, born a prince. No two backgrounds could be as far apart, and yet Reizen's performance as Dosifei will ever remain a staple.
