i calculated: if Shaq had shot 80% from the line his whole career, he would have around 31662 career points, meaning he would probably pass wilt and MJ in his career.
if he shot it at 8-% he would be fouled less, but would also score more FG so it evens out

The biggest difference between Shaq and Laettner was that Laettner could play basketball and Shaq could dunk. I'm not trying to hate on Shaq, but it's true. Shaq was an unrefined physical beast. Christian Laettner came from a great basketball program and knew how to play and win.
Christian Laettner got dominated on the next level becasue he was physically weak. Shaq dominated because the refs swallowed the whistle when he fouled people.
Did you just watch the same video as me??? "shaq dominated because the refs swallowed the whistle when he fouled people???
On how many of those blocks did he foul somebody???
Shaq dominated because of superior strength and skill down low despite leading all time in missed free throws. If he could shoot a free throw like Yao Ming he would be rivaling MJ on the all time scoring list.
Well he had 7'0'' Stanley Roberts at Center and Jackson at Point of course at LSU first, then after Stanley went to Europe to play and Jackson went pro (changed his name to Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, simply amazing pg) Shaq was a one man show. Stanley was actually considered even more dominant than Shaq at that time. Stanley was a year older, and when Shaq came to LSU people called them the Twin Towers.
Stanley was the Shaq before Shaq and many believe he would've had even a better pro career than Shaqs had injury, laziness, and personal life issues clashed with his career. Still though, great montage of Shaq at LSU!
@thegov08 Olajuwon wasn't on Dream Team I. The other true center besides Ewing was the Admiral. Having Coach K as an assistant probably didn't hurt Laettner's chances of making the squad over Shaq, Jimmy Jackson, and Baby Jordan. Of course, Laettner gave them a 3rd PF who could platoon at the 5 if they needed him; I suppose they figured that gave them more versatility than playing Shaq out of position.
@vhfanjack i could be wrong, but i thought laettner was the only guy from college at the time, cause up untill that point we had used our college boys, but they were getting beat so we started using our nba guys again, so they put one college boy on the team, witch was laettner, but now that im thinking about it, shaq was maybe in college too, so my whole answer sucks. lol..... maybe this helps maybe it dont. lol...... eitehr way, your right laettner sucked ass.
@vhfanjack Actually at the time it made sense. I hate Christian Laettner with a fiery passion, but he had owned Shaq the two times they met in college and had just won his second straight championship. Plus, they already had Robinson and Ewing. Didn't need a third center.
shaq....i mean his fucking name is SHAQ!!! for Christ sakes folks lol He is the definition of pure Power! dwights weight room strength is no match for the God give size and brute force this mans owns and never will be. Not to mention he had a great bball IQ though out his career and could jump like no other and i could go on and on bout shit he could do. G O A T (big man)
dwight will never be as good as shaq. shaq is always a factor (excluding the last few years. and he still is half the time!). i did not even notice dwight was on he court in the finals!
Shaq at LSU would have murdered D Howard, Wilt whoever. He still can hang at 37. D Howard doesnt dominate shaq and Shaq is a shell of his former self so how would he dominate a 20 year old 300 pouder that could jump out the gym with that killer spin move that he would put on display at LSU.
I can't believe Shaq was so skinny back then. If I can recall I saw a video of him actually making consecutive free throws to at LSU. Heck his percentage was 61% I didn't even know that was possible.
well that's about of an understatement... the only ones who compete... wilt, duh, bill russel and shaq... shaq being that big, and that mobile... regardless of not averaging 50.4... probably best
Large people have problems with knees, lower back, ankles, and the heart can't power that much mass easily. Shaq had those issues, plus mangled toes and torn abdominal muscles. He was an impact player, pure and simple -- no human can dish out or take that kind of a beating for much longer than Shaq did.
u know shaq is wierd like that. look at other bigs whose bodies betrayed them before they could do much. he is special in that his body could stand up to all that abuse.
God this is the nastiest basketball highlight video I have ever seen. Shaq was nasty at LSU, he was nasty in Orlando, and was still the most dominant player in the NBA in LA. But that doesn't mean he's a push-over now. I'd like to see any of today's centers try to match up with him. No one has success.
Exactly! I'm a big Laker honk, but I've always said that Shaq was at his best in Orlando. When he actually played against real centers/hall of famers like Hakeem and Ewing night in night out. He's played against garbage comp at his position for the last 10 years ever since Robinson left the game...or at least when D. Rob got old and started needing Duncan to carry him. Shaq was insane in 95
I remember one game when he had a triple double with like 32 points nearly 20 rebs and 11 blocks or something like that vs Arizone I think... i want to say it was in the NCAA tourney... He took the ball on a break away and dunked.. then started dancing cabbage patch style up the court lol...
Shaq was a monster from then till about 3 years ago... but he was still a beast then.
ESPN CLASSIC once in a while airs his Kentucky game at LSU i believe from 92. If you ever get a chance WATCH AND TAPE THAT game ! It was INSANE !
Guys underneath for K.U were literally running away from him and putting their hands over their heads when he went up to Dunk, i am NOT kidding, u can notice them starting to RUN out of the way like scared lil Girls !
yes u are correct Kentucky was down but came back to win. But the point im making is not about winning, its the fact that this guy was amazing in the college game, if it were not for him, LSU would have gotten blown out every game
well yeah thats true but shaq isnt talented anyone that big should be able to dunk a ball or block shows against small guys, shaq couldnt shoot and he couldnt shoot free throws it was just a big guy banging his way to the basket, and thats not talent.if shaq were 6 foot 8 he wouldnt even have been good enough for the nba.
KOS, There have been many Other Big 7' Centers 270 lbs., 290 etc and NONE of them were as Dominant as this guy was.
so for you to say he wasnt talented is a huge overstatement. NO fan is saying or has ever said he was the most skilled guy, but then again MIKE TYSON wasnt really that great a Boxer compared to the greats, sure he was skilled but he made up in the ring for his lack of skill with all out brute Power, it was and is a factor, same with basketball
shaq weighs 375 the least!he isnt talented the guy cant even hit freethrows let alone shoot.he has to be in the paint to make a shot and its 99 percent just dunking.shaq is almost 100 pounds heavier than any center in the nba.if you think shaq weighs 290 you are a fool.

Shaq is the most dominant center to ever play in the NBA. When Shaq first started his career i nearly shit my pants at the things he did.

I remember one game when he had a triple double with like 32 points nearly 20 rebs and 11 blocks or something like that vs Arizone I think... i want to say it was in the NCAA tourney... He took the ball on a break away and dunked.. then started dancing cabbage patch style up the court lol...
Shaq was a monster from then till about 3 years ago... but he was still a beast then.
hmfmi 3 years ago
wow he was so young, athletic, and dominant then.

Its hysterical , lol

didnt kentucky win that game though?duke played at lsu that year and they beat them by 10.and it wasnt even that close.
koslow88 3 years ago
yes u are correct Kentucky was down but came back to win. But the point im making is not about winning, its the fact that this guy was amazing in the college game, if it were not for him, LSU would have gotten blown out every game
MccainsaLIBERAL 3 years ago
well yeah thats true but shaq isnt talented anyone that big should be able to dunk a ball or block shows against small guys, shaq couldnt shoot and he couldnt shoot free throws it was just a big guy banging his way to the basket, and thats not talent.if shaq were 6 foot 8 he wouldnt even have been good enough for the nba.
koslow88 3 years ago
KOS, There have been many Other Big 7' Centers 270 lbs., 290 etc and NONE of them were as Dominant as this guy was.
so for you to say he wasnt talented is a huge overstatement. NO fan is saying or has ever said he was the most skilled guy, but then again MIKE TYSON wasnt really that great a Boxer compared to the greats, sure he was skilled but he made up in the ring for his lack of skill with all out brute Power, it was and is a factor, same with basketball
MccainsaLIBERAL 3 years ago
shaq weighs 375 the least!he isnt talented the guy cant even hit freethrows let alone shoot.he has to be in the paint to make a shot and its 99 percent just dunking.shaq is almost 100 pounds heavier than any center in the nba.if you think shaq weighs 290 you are a fool.
