@mosaicglass That depends on why you need a replacement drive. If you are replacing your old drive because of laser problems or the drive motor is burnt out (but the circuit board is OK!) you can just take the circuit board out of the old one and put it in the new replacement drive. Done.
But if you don't want to do things the easy way you will have to extract the data from the old firmware and flash it to the new drive - even if you don't want to mod the firmware to play burned games.

@charlienethercoat094 you can't plug n play your replacement drive. Your replacement drives firmware doesn't have the correct key (the one that matches your xbox). If you did just plug it in - don't worry, you didn't do any damage, it just won't play anything.

@shss1c02 that would be nice eh? but no, you have to have some way to put the drive into the special mode to be able to read/write the firmware. that being said, you only have to do that once! Once you flash the modded firmware to the drive you no longer need all that stuff because the modded firmware did away with that requirement. So yeah, it's frustrating to have to buy all that stuff for a one time flash job but it has to be done.

cont. from post below- almost forgot to mention, you have to cut the yellow and white wires too and have them rewired to the new drive. even if you want to place the current circuit board with motor into the new drive without cutting the tray motor wires

this isn't necessary, just screw on the circuit board from the old drive to the new one, you have to cut the tray motor wires, rewire them to the new one. If you don't want to cut the wires or don't like rewiring, remove the tray motor with the wires and circuit board in one peice from the old drive to the new one and you have to remove the new tray motor in the new drive to switch the old motor in and keep the new motor as a replacement, then insert all strips into the circuit board ports.
I'm sure your method is probably a viable one, but most people don't have the know-how to do it. Hell, most people will look at my video and say "Screw that." Just being honest.

I have the connectivity cit, VIA6421 SATA port and the ck3 probe. But what to the serial cables go to and the molex cables go to? and the red SATA cable coming out of the drive connects to where?
Hi, Is it necessary to uses the connectivity kit and the probe? because ive done a Binq lite-on a few years ago and just powered the drive with the 360 its self and used a long sata cable in an Nforce sata port in my Hp. Could you tell me if it is posible to use that same method with this drive as i did with the binq? thank you
@TheYawno12 you cannot do that with lite on 7xxxx because you would still need the probe that is connected to ck3 and it would also need so be connected to the serial port
im selling home made usb probe to do this type of drives + full instructions on how to do it using the xbox to power up your drive at ebay, so no need for the ck3 thingy. search for my seller id on there (ghanimali)
Some dumb fuck tried to flash/mod my Xbox 360 DVD drive to play back-up copies and instead just screwed it all up, completely erasing the DVD drive key. He obviously dosn't know what the fuck he's doing, so now the system turns on and the dashboard works fine, but the DVD drive won't play any games at all. Is it possible to somehow access the motherboard to diagnose or retrieve the DVD drive system-key and fix this issue or should I just buy another new Xbox?
@blkgnuz2007 - You could ask him if he has the DVD key still & if so, you could potentially get it working through DOSFlash (that's what most people use to get drives working that went through bad flashes). Otherwise, your only option is to JTAG your console & find out the key through that but if your 360 isn't Jtaggable then you're kinda screwed...

Now, I am curious about having it JTAG'd, I'm new to all of this, but it sounds interesting. Is there a site to go to that tells which models can be JTAG'd? I'd like to learn how to do this myself but it looks complicated.
@blkgnuz2007 - Interesting you ask that. I'm actually looking toward starting a JTAG in the next week or so as well. You are correct that it is somewhat complicated, or at least for a first timer. However, not every box is Jtaggable.
Any Xbox 360 with a kernel of 7371 or lower is, barring a a couple exceptions I'll let you find out, Jtaggable. One nice thing about a Jtag: While it may be the hardest (or one of them anyway) mod out there, it literally costs nothing ($5)...

@acejoker74 have it on when u r locating the r707 hole, after u found it and light turns green, turn it off. while probing u should have one blue light to show that ur probe is on and one green light to show connection is made

At 4:03, there is at the top left of the CK3 a cable, does this have to be connected? ifso what cable is it? And there is also at the top RIGHT at the same time a white thingy.. what is it? And does it have to be connected?
The white cable at the top-left is a serial cable. You have a choice between using a serial connection or a USB connection. I chose the serial connection due to my USB connection being broken. The cables at the top-right are the molex connectors from my desktop, one of which is used for powering the CK3. There are always multiple molex connections running from a desktop's power supply, hence all the extra white plugs floating around at the top-right.

Well it's pretty simple. Make sure your desktop has a serial port and then visit your local RadioShack or computer supply shop for a serial cable. Take into consideration the type of serial port that's on your desktop(whether it's male or female). Case in point: My serial port is female, and both ends of my serial cable are female, so I also had to buy a small male-male adapter in order for the connections to work right.

@briafromxbox Lookup videos on youtube how to find out, Btw if you have opened your xbox you can see it on the sticker The sticker will say what version (FW ver.:) and look on the sticker somewhere it should say: Samsung or Hitachi or BenQ or Lite-On, easy to discover

Hi, Is it necessary to uses the connectivity kit and the probe? because ive done a Binq lite-on a few years ago and just powered the drive with the 360 its self and used a long sata cable in an Nforce sata port in my Hp. Could you tell me if it is posible to use that same method with this drive as i did with the binq? thank you

@TheYawno12 No. You need the probe and the connectivity kit because this tutorial is for a Phillips 74850C not a BenqLite

@TheYawno12 you cannot do that with lite on 7xxxx because you would still need the probe that is connected to ck3 and it would also need so be connected to the serial port

Some dumb fuck tried to flash/mod my Xbox 360 DVD drive to play back-up copies and instead just screwed it all up, completely erasing the DVD drive key. He obviously dosn't know what the fuck he's doing, so now the system turns on and the dashboard works fine, but the DVD drive won't play any games at all. Is it possible to somehow access the motherboard to diagnose or retrieve the DVD drive system-key and fix this issue or should I just buy another new Xbox?

@blkgnuz2007 - You could ask him if he has the DVD key still & if so, you could potentially get it working through DOSFlash (that's what most people use to get drives working that went through bad flashes). Otherwise, your only option is to JTAG your console & find out the key through that but if your 360 isn't Jtaggable then you're kinda screwed...

@6587567651 Thanks, I ended up just taking it back to Best Buy and they shipped it out and let me exchange it for a refurbished Xbox. I had someone else flash it for me correctly. Now, I am curious about having it JTAG'd, I'm new to all of this, but it sounds interesting. Is there a site to go to that tells which models can be JTAG'd? I'd like to learn how to do this myself but it looks complicated.

@blkgnuz2007 - Interesting you ask that. I'm actually looking toward starting a JTAG in the next week or so as well. You are correct that it is somewhat complicated, or at least for a first timer. However, not every box is Jtaggable.
Any Xbox 360 with a kernel of 7371 or lower is, barring a a couple exceptions I'll let you find out, Jtaggable. One nice thing about a Jtag: While it may be the hardest (or one of them anyway) mod out there, it literally costs nothing ($5)...

@acejoker74 have it on when u r locating the r707 hole, after u found it and light turns green, turn it off. while probing u should have one blue light to show that ur probe is on and one green light to show connection is made

At 4:03, there is at the top left of the CK3 a cable, does this have to be connected? ifso what cable is it? And there is also at the top RIGHT at the same time a white thingy.. what is it? And does it have to be connected?

The white cable at the top-left is a serial cable. You have a choice between using a serial connection or a USB connection. I chose the serial connection due to my USB connection being broken. The cables at the top-right are the molex connectors from my desktop, one of which is used for powering the CK3. There are always multiple molex connections running from a desktop's power supply, hence all the extra white plugs floating around at the top-right.

Well it's pretty simple. Make sure your desktop has a serial port and then visit your local RadioShack or computer supply shop for a serial cable. Take into consideration the type of serial port that's on your desktop(whether it's male or female). Case in point: My serial port is female, and both ends of my serial cable are female, so I also had to buy a small male-male adapter in order for the connections to work right.

@briafromxbox Lookup videos on youtube how to find out, Btw if you have opened your xbox you can see it on the sticker The sticker will say what version (FW ver.:) and look on the sticker somewhere it should say: Samsung or Hitachi or BenQ or Lite-On, easy to discover

You forgot a important step at the end! You have to press the Outron/ATA Reset button at the end to send the drive out of Vendor Mode!
