seriously, anything that goes into your body via mouth will come out in about 18 hours, and its moving to different sections of your digestive track alot, its not going to have the chance to sit there and burn a hole. really, the danger would be if it where split open and the acid burnt through your intestines (unlikely considering your stomach acid is concentrated hydrochloric acid), this is merely propaganda, if you wanted to discuss danger youd consider that they might CHOKE on the battery...

Off the top of my head, I think that ham test is pretty inconclusive.

Deli ham is usually stored in a liquid with some kind of salt, to keep it longer and to give it flavor.

Salt in a water solution helps conduct electricity many times better than water alone, this likely skewed the results.

This "more than a dozen children" figure covers what period of time, exactly? Lithium batteries have been sold since the 1970's. Ingesting a battery isn't a good idea, of course, but there a lot more likely hazards to be worried about. More children are killed by choking on marbles, hard candy, coins, or other small objects. I think the solution to this problem is simply parenting.
