Def Poetry - Taylor Mali - What Teachers Make

I've heard this poem so many times, but this time it made me cry. I am at a very crucial time in my life (I'm 19) and I have been debating on either becoming a CPA and make 6 figures OR become a teachers and make, well you know... This poem opened my eyes. Money is nice, but making a difference is better - "a got damn difference."

@Shatynna All I can tell you is really think about your decision. It's true, teachers have a great impact on children's lives, but also remember that there are some that you will never reach. Teacher drama is common. Some principles suck horribly. Students and their parents are stressful. Teacher turnover rates are high. Really think about your choices and how difficult life is becoming for teachers in terms of legislation, pay, parents, etc. I wish you the best in your decisions :)

@Shatynna But I will also say that had it not been for my teachers, I would have never made it this far... I still remember their names and keep in contact with some of them. The best feeling is getting a thank you note from a student 10+ years later. If you can carry this kind of attitude and inspiration with you throughout your career, you will be just fine.
