@cybasame purely because they don't want to ruin the show. Have too much of a good think and it'll loose it's edge. Take the american comedy 'Friends' for example. Took them 10 seasons before they realised it wasn't funny anymore. Then again... IMO it was never funny to begin with...

I am British and IMHO (as well as pmy peers), Mr Bean went on for far too long and thank goodness Little Britiain never made it past 3 series. There are far more entertaining shows with more series - The Good Life, Watching, Blackadder, Red Dwarf, The Vicar of Dibley, Absolutely Fabulous. I agree it was a shame there weren't more of this show though...

I think it would have happened eventually if the series hadn't stopped. I'm guessing they would both have gotten drunk after failing on a case and...done the deed, then nothing happens for a season, but they get together after that.
