I love meat, I don't think that I could go on even two days without meat. But cruelty to animals during their the duration of life is cruel. I don't think that the people who treat animals that way are psychologically balanced people. Even cocoroaches when I kill them I make sure that its swift and complete. If an animal needs to be killed its fine with me but the long endured pain is not.

Anything you buy from the supermarket is going to go through equivalent, if not worse conditions. Foie gras can be done humanely and is done humanely by several places. Obviously do not buy from here. But source your ingredients and you can find good places that treat their ducks and geese with respect.

I had foie gras last night. It was quite tasty. And while I suppose that it might be a bit better for our personal feelings if we handled these birds with a bit more dignity, the end result is all the same. We kill them, and we eat them. It doesn't matter if we only eat the liver, or the entire bird, they're dead. They did not live a full life. If you don't like this, you can become a vegan, but that isn't very human. I'll eat the meat, thank you very much.

Ahem. Just a thought: lions eat their prey relentlessly, monkeys would twist bodies of other monkeys and then eat them afterwards, anacondas eat their young and stillborn. Sounds nauseating? No, it's just natural. If we think too much about it, we would not eat anything. What's sickening to me is the fact that some fraction of humans assign human rights to animals.

@marlemus Foie Gras is not a necessary dietary need for humans. It's natural to force feed an animal and throw baby chicks in a trash can to die in a pile of other dying chicks? No it is definitely NOT natural. The difference between humans & other species is that we have a choice...and we CHOOSE to do this to other living things w/out even blinking an eye. At least when lions kill their prey they kill it quickly by suffocation. This is a long slow death.

What you see in this video are all but natural. All beings have the capacity to choose and both ends choose without blinking an eye (take note: anaconda). When I see shit like this, I don't even think the word inhumane is appropriate. This is like some nightmare to me. The machinery, the coldness, the systematic torture and murder. It's so strange.. that we've come to this. Don't you think? And for what? This is for a fucking delicacy? It blows my mind. watch anthony bourdain's visit to hudson valley farm, and go to their website to really learn about foie gras. it shows a good farm producing an excellent foie gras. just like all other means of good and bad production, their are good farms and bad farms. the more stressed the duck, the lesser the quality of foie gras. hudson valley cares about the ducks life pre slaughter and the foie gras it is raised for. two very different stories on foie gras production.

Those poor animals. The looks in their eyes just screams "please kill me" I cried. I have never had Foie Gras, and I never will. Some pompous ass doesn't know how this happens and probably doesn't care, I hope that some of them would have to go through being force fed and kept in tiny cages. This is so sad.

Although these are plainly cruel conditions, I don't see why this is worse than typical factory farming conditions. Anything you buy from the supermarket is going to go through equivalent, if not worse conditions. Foie gras can be done humanely and is done humanely by several places. Obviously do not buy from here. But source your ingredients and you can find good places that treat their ducks and geese with respect.

This is ridiculously sad. I see people's points concerning the female ducks, and how they should be kept for other purposes (not just using their livers). Think about how much good they could do. Does anyone know if there are standards that factories like this have to meet? hopefully so such cruelty can begin to be stopped. The D'artagnan brand foie gras farms look like paradise compared to this.

I had foie gras last night. It was quite tasty. And while I suppose that it might be a bit better for our personal feelings if we handled these birds with a bit more dignity, the end result is all the same. We kill them, and we eat them. It doesn't matter if we only eat the liver, or the entire bird, they're dead. They did not live a full life. If you don't like this, you can become a vegan, but that isn't very human. I'll eat the meat, thank you very much.

Mass produced ANYTHING is a disgusting process that no one would eat if it were shown to you. The Green Giant plant vegetables are absolutely filthy, rotten ones mixed in with fresh ones. Buy local and fresh and if possible, see the plant first hand. I saw where my foie gras comes from, I saw where my pork and pig's head comes from, I saw where my beef comes from and I have seen where my fruits and vegetables come from and I can confidently feed them to my friends and loved ones.
