Johnny Cash put his tender spin on it and Trent's got his.
I listen to both versions back to back personally, a double dose of greatness.
Trent first (his is quieter so it goes first) and then Cash's.
It doesn't matter though. I think it's more a testament to the quality of the song and a compliment to Trent that Cash could cover it. Country covering the guy who did "Wish"? that's a milestone really.
i agree, with you but, each version hold their own meaning, reznors is darker, and in cash;s version you can feel the pain in his voice and each version brings tears
I am not exactly an avid NIN fan but this is simply breath taking, this is what music should be something that makes you feel something... transports you to the writers mindset if only for a moment,
I saw NIN live in 2007 when they came to Budapest for the Sziget festival. I didn't really know much of them then, but that concert was a lifechanging experience. When they played "Wish," and "The Beginning of the End," they won me over. I thought they couldn't top those until Trent played "Hurt" and I've been a diehard fan since. UP THE NAILS!
Absolutely phenomenal. One of the best songs ever written and performed. Trent's emotion fits the song's purpose perfectly. I can't imagine this song being done any better than it was here. I love the Johnny Cash version too, but this performance is beyond amazing. This video right here is the power of music.
i love this song. this video was recorded two days after trent's father passed away and he agreed to continue with the concert only if he could sing hurt.
it's the song which close the downyard spiral the albums explain the life of a man who destructing himself and finish to suicide himself thats why he wrote hurt
This is my favorite NiN song and video to date. I do agree with you, agnessrox, I'm sure he is crying. If I remember correctly I think he wrote this song about his drug addiction he had and how it had ruined him in a way producing this absolutely beautiful song. This is my favorite version of it by far it's just got such more meaning behind it than the album version because it seems to be more of a personal song to the fans until the end.
I think its really rude for the people to cheer and whistle whistle trents singing this. Its a sad song about something horrible not something to cheer about thats my opinion anyway.
well u gotta consider the fact that they arent there to feel sry for trent, they are at a concert which means tehy are there to have fun. this is an amazing song and they are celebrating the man who wrote it
Trent didnt like the cover that Johnny Cash did until he saw the video for it. When Johnny first sent the song to him he hated it. He said it during an interview
Johnny cash did a good job, but i mean, it's coming from a totally different place, and time in someone's life. As a young person, i relate so much more to trent. He just evokes so much for me. I don't really care what trent says about who's is better. Dylan says trent's is better.
still love this song.ONLY THE PEOPLE SCREEMING TROUGH IT!!!! FUCK YOU MAN!!! if you go to a concert, you for the music right? not just to ruin songs and other peoples night's!!!!!!
do not be so rude. I have nothing against gays' rights. They cfn have their rights, no doubt. But i do not like homosexuals, and it is my right not to like them.
this is amazing i cant wait till leeds festival this year these shud headline instead of razorlight and put them behind the smashing pumpkins on friday these on

And amongst Cash covers, Trents in good company.

as much as i respect Trent Reznor and all his work
i have to say that Johnny Cash did it better
he changed the chords slightly so they flowed better and changed the timing to make it slightly more listenable in my opinion

Con esta cancion... Trent Reznor demuestra que no solo es un musico y compositor virtuoso.. sino tambien un poeta.
