  • Thanks for sharing this performance, it's simply amazing! :)

  • Actually, Zila Kafi does not omit the Rishab in the aroha. Khansahib plays Rishab in ascent quite a bit in this video.

Zila Kafi follows the Kafi line. You can play SRgmP or RmP. The shuddh G and komal g are treated the same as in Kafi. The main difference is Zila: m D n S. :-)

  • ZILLA KAAFI

Zilla Kafi is a sampoorna jati raga and is also sung in the evening hours. It omits the usage of the Rishabh in the ascending while uses it well in the descending.

    Aroha: S G M P d N S>

    Avaroha: S> n D P m g R S

  • Anybody knows the Aroha/Avaroha? I didn't find it on net at all...

  • @danyiluska Aroha is ascending and avaroha is the descending order of the notes of a Raaga.

  • @fotkakuddus lol.. hes asking what the aroha/avaroha of this raag are, not what the terms mean.

  • Khansahib towered so far above the rest of us Sarode players that just being in his presence was enough to encourage furious "riaz" for weeks to come. This Raag can be found in his first year study book, if you can find it.

  • he was a real ustad may god bless his soul

  • There was only one...... This great man achieved the perfect sound of the Sarode.

  • The phrase at 5:57 - quintessential Khansahib. No one caresses these like Ustadji

  • godly .... there are no words to describe this ... we miss you khansaheb ... your tones are now heard by the gods!

  • AWESOME....!!!

  • India ! WOW ! THANX !

  • There is great passion in this music.

  • BEAUTIFUL!! BRILLIANT!!

  • sweet soma flowing from his sarod...

  • this artist gave us many years of beauty and will continue to do so

  • So tender ... He will always be with us.

  • Ali akbar khan is the greatest sarod player alive. There's true beauty in everything he plays. He composed raags Chandranandan and Mishra Shivaranjini. He composed many other raagas as well, I just can't remember what.

  • thank you so much for uploading..

this is my favourite instrumental piece of all time.
