  • think this could get a mesa boogie mark series type of sound?

  • Wow! @ 8:02

  • what channel is that 5-band eq for?

  • Cool demo. I sent backCarvin V3m. I didn't care for the gain channels - too compressed metal oriented. I got my dream amp about 10 days ago - the X100B Series IV. I can't say enuf about the sound, clean and dirty, and features of this amp, I am very surprised this 100 watt beast sounds great at "1" / bdrm level. It gets damn loud too. but note that the graphic EQ gives an extra 18DB (!!!!!) of additional LOUDNESS if you want it. YEEHAW! Yes, I got the brown Country Western - a beaut!

  • Really nice tone and playing, man. Thanks for the excellent demo of this amp. Much appreciated!

  • This is a killer amp!! Want a more metal tone? Add a good distortion pedal. Want great classic rock tones? You are good to go. Very versatile amp, that spounds good clean or dirty. It brings out the best qualities of whatever guitar you plug into it. It keeps the note definition of chords even on the high gain settings. Anyone looking for an affordable, vesatile amp can not go wrong with this!!!

  • This is one of the most versatile amps. This amp you can control so many frequencies from very low to very high. You can get great muddy sound or great bright clean sound. It is great for metal and punk, and/or 70's, 80's rock. I love this amp I have played many and I could not stop thinking about his one. It has such great clean sound.

  • I just ordered one of these. Do you think the clean channel will reproduce the acoustic tone of my epiphone les paul ultra II ? I really don't want to have to get an acoustic amp, and this sounds really great clean and dirty. guessi'll find out when i get it.

  • Amp sounds fantastic! Quick question: Have you had any of the volume issues with the amp that I've read about. I notice that it appears you're almost able to talk over the amp on the video. (I know the camera is probably doing that). Do you think the amp has a volume issue?

  • Nice, his video really opened my eyes, how good and versatile this amp. I just recently bought this amp a used one. Thanks for posting this video sir.

  • is this a generally a pretty high gain amp? i was thinking about buying one of these amps but i don't play super heavy metal or anything. will this handle like hendrix or zeppelin riffs?

  • @Ficajalicious - Hey man, thanks for posting. The X-100B will do those tones for and more. It has a gain switch so you can get everything from a very mild break up to vintage Rock. Then with the gain switch on you can go from Rock to metal. It does have a good amount of gain available but, it is not a "Modern" toned High gain head. The thing I love is the amp is very responsive and will clean up very nicely just by backing your guitar volume down.

  • I want one these amps....what is a fair price for a used one?

  • This is exactly how my 1983 version X-100B sounds. With alnico gold Celestians I get an even better sound than a vintage plexi.

  • Thanks for methodically demonstrating the features and capabilities of the amp-- very refreshing in contrast to the copious wank sessions labeled as amp demos from which I gather no grasp of the amplifier...

  • @jvsloan - Hey jvsloan, Thanks for commenting. Yea, I was trying to give a feel of the amp - not show off. So, thanks for noticing.

  • Do you use this amp in live situations ? I do and depending on the gig, I feel some lack of volume....Great vídeo.

  • How heavy can this get? Somebody give me a band name..

  • @thatguyfromthatday

It can get pretty heavy - heavy enough anyways. Be watching for a new VID to show a more heavier side of the X-100B.

  • @thatguyfromthatday

Vinnie Vincent Invasion - Boys Gonna Rock

It could probably do some old-school thrash stuff as well.. with an eq in the loop and a boost it would probably do modern tones as well.

  • @thatguyfromthatday Cacophony's second album

  • do you think this amp would be good for dream theater stuff at all?

  • whats the heaviest type of music this thing can do? and can it get a somewhat accurate Vai/80's Metal tone?

  • @VHfan458 heaviest it can do is old school thrash. if your looking for 80s tone then yes, it can do it.

  • @VHfan458 vai recorded the song blue powder with this amp

  • I play alot of different kinds of music, but have been focusing alot on old school punk rock and reggae/ska sort of sublime style music. How well would this amp work for something like that? Ive been looking into alot of amps, the distortion sounds great on this, but how well would this work for reggae or something?

  • Nice!!!!!! Sounds very Similar to my Badcat Hotcat30R, which can only be a good thing.

  • I have the 1981 version of the combo amp (XV 212). Incredible how all the controls are still the same on these later amps in the "head" version... although my bright switches on the lead and rhythm volume require that I pull them out to engage vice a switch. My second channel no longer sounds as amazing as yours (mine has turned flabby).

  • @day2daygrindin ....Marshall amps suck especially JCM's,only good thing about Marshalls is there name "Marshall"....i never played on a Marshall in the 28 years i been playing that sounded good....they seem to sound good on rythm playing but going into solo's it feels and sounds like your playing on a clean channel.the old expensive plexi heads sound ok...but overall Marshalls suck.

  • I wouldnt say they always sucked,

in the 70's80's they were good for what was available.Same with Mesa,IMO the JCM900 was the best JCM,and the triple recto was the best Mesa.I have sold them both and a 2000 last year to buy the most amazing amps I ever played or heard to date. And that is the Blackstar series 1/200 which I sold to buy 2 series 1/100's and they are hands down the best sounding most versatile amps Ive ever played.

  • I was disatisfied with this amp for a while and started looking at some JCMs and other Marshalls. AND THEY BLEW ASS I just sat down and went through everything this amp had to offer and now i love it even more. Fuck Marshall. I used to have a MG100dfx and god damn what a piece of shit.

  • @Megaduck72 why the heck would you use a Solid State marshall to compare it to??? of course it sounds better. the marshall mg series are solid state pieces of junk. although i dont agree with you JCM argument... yes there are JCMs that i dont like, but as far as im concerned nuthin beats a cranked 800. :D BUT... just my opinion

  • @Acidrain1993 Im not comparing it to the mg series. i know those are all shit and dont even come close. Im comparing it to tubed marshalls like the jcm 2000 and AA series. i mentioned the mg100dfx because it sucks dick and i dont understand why a company would even make something that blows that much dick.

  • the logo looks like ARVIN...

    never noticed that :P

  • beautiful demo and fantastic amp! But don't understand wich guitar do u use...

  • I use Carvin Guitars - I play both 6-string and 7-String Carvin guitars.

  • Seriously though, I want one of these amps sooo bad.

  • Basically I just basically asked a question about basically asking basically

  • hey i have one of these and ive had it for about a year and a half now. clean channel is great but when it comes to the lead channel with gain on im having a very hard time finding a good tone for my leads. they keep sounding very tin like. like not enough gain. like the notes arent flowing together "buttery" at all. and i dont think its me becuase when i plug into my peavey combo transtube my leads sound absolutly amazing. any suggestions it would be a real help.

  • I reccomend the basis settings on the lead channel (they are in the manual)

    Bass: 7

    Mid: 4

    Treble: 7

    Presence: 7

I have a mahogany guitar so I usually have less bass, but this gives a good marshall type tone. Then the rest you should do is form your sound with the active EQ.

  • Thanks I fixed my problem. ended up with Presence:1

    Treble:7

    Mid:6

    Bass:6.5

when I play loud i turn it down to

    Treble:6

    Mid 5

    bass 6.5

  • Different power tubes make a difference. As well as different speakers. Experiment to see what sounds good to your ear. I've had this amp since 1983. I've run it with different combinations of power and preamp tubes and speaker configurations and there is a very noticable difference. Good luck!

  • Great amp, great sound. Must be honest though not very loud, but the sound man, the SOUND!

  • I don't know which series mine is...I think it was made in the 80's but it has the carpeted cabinet. How do you use an effects loop? I have absolutely no clue how.

  • Nice demo

I was sure i was getting the legacy 2 now you confused me cause this amp sounds great too

    and is less expensive.

I'd have to play them both to choose

    good review

  • how do you compare the x100b to a legacy 2 , it seems like the x100b has alot more gain on the dirty channel than the legacy 2, what ya reckon ?

  • The X-100B and the Legacy are actually more similar than they are different. Remember Steve Vai used to play the X-100B's. I would say the main difference between the two is the way they are voiced. message me and I can try to help more as I am limited to 500 characters.

  • How does it work in low volume situations? I see it is switchable down to 25 watts. How does it sound that way? Excellent video by the way!

  • hey i play some pretty hard rock. how do u think it is for like guns n roses or even like a metallica distorion. im thinking about getting this or a marshall dsl. im leaning toward this one though because of the versalility

  • The X-100B would do great!

  • Man I have to get one of these!

  • I just got my first Carvin guitar (TL-60) over the summer and am highly impressed.. Top quality woods to choose from, mine is swamp ash body with maple neck. I opted for the Twin blade P/U's 'cause I don't like Hum of single coils. I can get strat and Tele type sounds W/O the hum and with the 5 way selector and a mini phase switch, I can get somewhat LPish sounds too. It's very very versitile and has alot of natural sustain from the wood,( no active electronics). I Highly recommend Carvin.

  • how do you like this compared to the mesa boogie dual rectifier? I was thinking about throwing some el34's in mine

  • I like the Carvin X-100B's better.

  • Nice demo , what guitar were U using . What kind of P/U's?

  • Hey man, thank you for the comment. I am using my Carvin DC 727 seven string. The pickups are the stock Carvin C26 bridge and neck pickup.

  • How would rate this amp on a Metal type tone? My PC speakers are crap.

  • I've seen this amp for as low as $214 pretty well used, and less than $390 slightly used with manuals and foot pedal.

  • The cabs are loaded with the Carvin BR12's (British 12 inch)

  • I am running EL34's in both of my X-100B's

  • thanks bro love ur tone

  • el34 or 6l6

  • how much is that amp??? i'd like to get one : 3

  • 6 hundy

  • The amp is $699.00 but, is currently on sale for $599.00
