For, about, five years I struggled with compulsive overeating disorder and was very overweight. I've been anorexic and bulimic for a year now and I've lost a dramatic amount of weight, but I'm still not underweight. It sucks because when I first started, I tried to get help, but couldn't because I wasn't small enough and once you've been told something like that, it just completley crushes you. Now I HAVE to get that small.
there is no such thing as a fat anorexic. why dont you just try to be healthy? an anorexic becomes thin, because of one simple thing, she doesn't eat.
no there isn't. In order to be disgnosed as anorexic, you have to be 17 BMI or less. That doesn't mean that you don't have an eating disorder. It just means you don't have anorexia. There ARE other disorders which include restricting your eating/fasting, etc.. Try googling "EDNOS" Good luck.
The clinical criteria for anorexia nervosa are very strict. From a purely diagnostic standpoint to be diagnosed clinically anorexic, your BMI must be less than 17.5. You would probably be diagnosed as "Eating Disordered". Though I think that's just idiotic. If you are exhibiting the same behaviors and obsessions as a thin anorexic and the only difference is that you're not below a certain weight I don't think they should say "oh no, she's not anorexic". Size shouldn't make a difference.
BUT, the purpose for any diagnosis is to determine how best to treat the person with the problem. You treat a person who has anorexia a lot different than a person with EDNOS. It's important to make a distinction because the person with anorexia has likely taxed their system a bit more than a person with EDNOS and will need different medical care. Let's all stop pretending that being called "anorexic" is a badge of honour, and deal with the problems we HAVE. Even if thoes problems are EDNOS.
I became anorexic/ Bulimic in high school. I still struggle with it. And you couldn't tell it now, but I still have points where I don't eat for days or weeks and/or purge if I do. I know it's not good for me...BUT I don't like being a pig! :(
Oh and who ever has been taking laxatives after over eating does nothing b/c food stays in your upper intestines for a long time and laxatives wont speed the process of the fecal matter going into the lower intestine.
It's not about a "badge of honour" it's about support and recovery by relating to people with the same psychological disorder. By saying "You're too fat to be anorexic" and segregating like that you're trying to take away a support system that can be very helpful in recovery. Because like it or not there is more help, resources, and support for those diagnosed "Anorexic" then those diagnosed "EDNOS".
I should also mention.. I used to have anorexia, went down to a 16 bmi. Right now, I have EDNOS, and I am neither ashamed, NOR have I ever had trouble finding support. I just think that it's really, really rediculous that people WANT to be called anorexic at all. Why fight for a title like that? I am personally PROUD of being EDNOS because it means I have a lot less physical health problems. (Although, I still do have lingering stuff going on...)
A 120 lb girl starving herself for a few weeks can become "anorexic" in that time. A 300 lb girl may be doing the EXACT same thing to her body but just because she hasn't reached the 17 BMI mark yet (because of starting out at a higher weight) she's not considered "anorexic". I think that's absolutely retarded. A psychological disorder shouldn't be classified by scales.
yeah...I have a question. so it IS possible to be considered an anorexic though you might be normal-weighted...Because I find it horrible that the only time we are actually diagnosed or given attention of our sick(hating our own bodies)mind, is almost never if we ARE eating and appear normal, and ONLY if we are malnourished with a dead weight we get it. hahaha >>

anorexia is anorexia....you may be eating disorder or have ana tendancies but who wants to be labeled or fight for a label of such a horrible disease anyways. Just get healthy hun! (hugs)
Thnx so much!Honestly we aren't anorexic unless we have a BMI of 17.5 or below. But that doesn't mean that you DONT have an ED. Most likely you have ED-nos or Bulemia. It sounds like you are going through a really rough time and Im so sorry about the baby, that is heartbreaking.Day by day is the only way to make it. MUCH LOVE! Thank 4 being there!
Ur soooo cute.................. haha NOT

How can you be a fat anorexic... You obviously are eating pretty well in order to be overweight.

There is also 'clinical anorexia'.
I was initially diagnosed with this as i fit all guidelines and had lost a dramatic amount of weight 40 kg, but was not quite "anorexic"
They game me this diagnosis because it made it easier for the nurses to have a general idea of what i am.
Im now ednos because i am not in the bmi range and i have both anorexic and bulimic tendancies.

Ok, fine. Tell yourself what you like, but I STILL think it is silly to fight for a diagnosis you don't have...
