I remember on the final approach to CDG from LAX, we got an announcement from the pilot that we would be experiencing "violent" buffeting. we were flying in a winter storm. There was just a couple of strong bumps but it was nothing I would describe as really violent. I love Air France, their crew and their planes.
Ah, i love the sounds and feelings of airplanes... the engines, the babies crying (u notice there is always 1) the hard landings (they r fun) the turbulance even is fun, (except when u hve 2 hold ur pee in)
Dude. That' not turbulence comared to what I had. It was last May. We caught up with a horrible storm and we basically turned with the amount of wind. The pilot turned back and had to land at the nearest airport.
@mario7kart7master7 you think THAT'S bad!? 3 years ago i was flying from sydney to hong kong and we flew through a typhoon near the philippines. the plane dropped suddenly and violently, and then again even worse. we dropped a few hundred feet. people were screaming and water in my cup flew up and out of the cup. that's what i call turbulence.
Turbulence makes flying fun, if on any flight I'm on the F/A's give an announcement that we may hit some rough air/clouds I snap open my window to watch the wing bounce up and down. It's a show and a ride, all in one. :D
I love turbulences as the aircraft enters cloud layers while in negative slope ... I love it, man ... all of the dynamical structure of the plane shaking at 600-700 km/h downwards ... the wings sometimes shake violently and the box flies like a bird!! what a beauty!
I'm French but from california and ive made many flights from SFO to O'Hare.....And im used to the old 747's....Anyways is it me or does this 777 look really weird?? Its like all silver/gray
Its good to know that these aircraft are bouncing around all the time, and have very little mechanical failure. When one wing touches the other in turbulence, that's when you've got a problem, I'm off to Barbados on a job Saturday, so it s a good vid for me, i' m petrified of flying. Respect B77WER
Onc i was coming from Milan to cairo on Egyptair and we had the sign of the seat belt on but at on moment we thought that we are landing but the plane was falling inside a heavy turbulance thank god that the pilot was in control at once
Flying from Dubai to Brisbane, I must have heard that at least a dozen times! And the Aircraft, an Airbus A340-500, dropped about 1000ft in an instant.
@ barticus04...Oh my gosh that must have sucked... i went on my discovery flight and it was super windy... we fell striaght down or up for like 2-3 seconds at a time... IT WAS FUn lol

BIZ Class!! cool! the same thing happen to me when i flew singapore air, but i enjoyed the turbulence part although it spilled my tea!! It was like a bump in the middle of a very smooth road, and i was in a biz class too.. :p
When the aircraft go over pockets of compressed or loose air, the aircraft goes up and down a few feet in stormy weather in particular. Some extreme cases result in the aircraft shaking relatively violently. It is extremely common, happens all the time when the aircraft go in and out of different weather patterns and fly over mountainous regions. If you look out of your window you will see the wings shake a bit, they are designed to do that. It happens to me on every flight.
It is highly unlikely in 99% of cases, and I know there was that very unfortunate case on the News on Monday just gone, I can't imagine the Hell those people went through. But it is rare and thousands and thousands of planes fly every day with no incidences.
Actually its more than 99%... its more like 1 in a million. What happened on monday was not just turbulance.. it was more likely to have been either electrical failure resulting in loss of pilot control of the aircraft or more severely loss of the rudder or aelerons. Remember a plane takes off more than 1 every second, And there are only a few cases of crashes a year, most of them during the landing or take-off, Its very rare for turbulence to have any effect on an aircraft, or lightening.
Until those recorders are found, there is no way to say for sure what happened. I hope and pray for both the families and for the flying public that they are.
Cool! I'm going to Bordeaux this summer though. I have family in Paris too though. Today my dad is supposedly going to go reserve my ticket or something.
Thought it said flatulence...

Turbulence occurs everywhere at any time.
Sun heats the ground, air rises up in the atmosphere, cools down and sinks= Turbulence.
A flight with no turbulence at all is a great exception.

turbulence is very hard to capture on camera since it not something you actually see, but feel instead.

Actually you can see it if you are seating next to the Wing. You will see the wing flex around especially at the tip.
