Hmm... I appreciate everyone's comments here, but I can't hold myself back from posting my own. I'm a music writer myself; composer actually, not that this means anything, it's just that when i listen to music, i tend to hear it with a "mechanic's" ear as it were. this one just didn't do it for me. It was a fairly shallow attempt at texture, no attempt at a theme and the dynamics were aimless. As a whole it felt like the work was empty and void of character. Isn't it great how tastes can vary!
@MrDBarch while not a composer, i tend to listen to music fairly discerningly and i must disagree with you. i found the piece to directly reflect the atmosphere of the story. i dont know if you have seen the documentary but to me, through this music i can see the long sad struggle put on this magnificent creature. it shows the pain of a long life as well as the raw primordial enviroment the piece is set in. watch or rewatch wwd, think about it
@natesdevices I agree completely, this music fits the episode 100% out, its sad and gets one to think about the long struggle the creator was going through...
I think your mistaking, you see, in the series, this music was added to scenes where the music was needed... If you watch the episode where this song is from, you understand what i mean... Its sad, and the story the episode tells, is also sad, mixed together, the music and the episode gets supersad...
They ruled the skies supreme for 160 million years...growing into many dazzling and amazing forms...yet such mighty beasts sucumped to extinction...their reign over the skies destroyed, leaving their smaller feathered competitors the rulers of the sky...the Pterosaurs were magnificant, I would give anything to have one soar above me, casting its shadow over me, then flying away into the sunset...that would be amazing.
Im figuring this out on piano at the moment. I think the king of the sky deserves to be remembered because even if the walknig with dinosaurs story wasn' t exactly real. There must have been those who shared a similiar fate to this great king.
benjamin bartlett has done such a magical job on this...i believe that a movie's soundtrack can make it or break it. It really is a good soundtrack...i wonder where i can get a hold of it...
So sad, ever since I first watched this when I was a kid, I still remember those few depressing notes. Its sort of a re-occuring conscious theme in my brain when something horrible occurs! Damn you Kenneth Graham!!
Whatever you do don't listen to this while reading Night. I'm close to crying :'(

If you like it you can buy it quite often and very cheap (excluding BuyNow offers) on eBay. I already enjoy my new copy for 1,5 GBP :)

Such a sad piece of music.
