First, there is no "3D Projection" What we do is "3D Mapping Projection" in which we project specially manipulated content onto 3D surfaces such that the illusion of depth, objects and light appears. It is an illusion using standard projectors. Theatrical cinema in 3D is stereoscopic requiring polarized glasses and the projection is still on a 2D surface. Those require special projectors. The only 3D "projection" as we all expect it is science fiction "Star Wars" hologram.

Hey Idsystems, I don't understand why every one keep calling those Projectors '3D projectors'. Is it Really 3D? the objects that you do on softwares is 3D but the Projectors Project 2D image. am i right? Its just vary high resolution and powerful projectors.

And can you tell me please what is the name of such projectors?

Texas Video & Post used Cinema 4D to create the animations. Others have used Wavefront and Autodesk 3DS Max. Truly any 3D animation software will work. The real work is in taking extremely accurate building measurements, making sure the 3D model is true to the building, matching the virtual camera to the projector placement, then adjusting on show site.

Yes, we thought the same thing! But we'd never really consider projected pyro for rel pyro. The Gloworama event last December we had to make the projection go "dark" for a few seconds so we could shoot pyro from in front of the projection surface. That really caught the audience by surprise and introduced an element that was unexpected. Thanks for the post!

I just came across this searching for Spartially Augmented Reality for a presentation I gotta do..... and I'm utterly stunned.

I'm not sure if it looks as impressive in real considering it probably only works that well from certain angles, but still, it's.... wow

@bunnimal Yes, there is a "sweet spot" for all of these types of projection as the illusion depends on the projected "shadows" and other elements in relation to the viewer's view of the architecture.

@fracturetrey Any 3D software will work. We used 3D Max at first to test but Texas Video & Post used a variety of software for the final content. Playback was Green Hippo HippotizerHD media server.

@aliancemd Not sure what you are referring to. The Sugar Land 3D projection mapping has no connection with Samsung. We used Barco R22HD's and a Green Hippo media server controlled by a GrandMA light board.
