The Korean recurve bow is probably the most effective traditional bow for its size in the world. It is truly a master work of engineering, and the most powerful weapon on the battlefield until the invention of the rifle.
Bows and spears are found everywhere in history.... today people tend to have strong pride in their own culture and what's wrong with that? I appreciate Korean bows as much as I do for the english long bow.
Heck archers today should appreciate them all if they are true archer and not get into this bickering. Like it or not this is MARTIAL (military) Art ...respect each other and learn.
@nmssis becuz they want to deny all of other country's history. china says korea's history is china's history. japan says korea's history is all fake.
korea is always sad. but ... hahaha it is fags and weaks cry. they can't win korean's mental. even if they could destory and steal all korea's cultures
@gundrag000 and how is that going for you? did a Korean Girl reject your sorry ass, is that why you have such hatred? or is it that a skinny unassuming Korean kick your ass silly? you know, you should face the truth....cause jealousy will get you no where.
Maybe there is a Korean inside you waiting to come out!
@gundrag000 Since not every culture advanced at the same time, place and with same resources....there will be differences. A bit of respect for tradition is what I am suggesting.
Fine, you are Korean, then insted of name calling China and Japan, it would serve you better if you would debate with facts, with what you can prove and be honest about it.
Not sure about china but I know Japan had destroyed historical records of Korea in recent occupation and that's well known.
@nmssis psycho ^^ ; do you think I will answer about your reply ? fuck off with your nigger family at all days. it is one of trashs or bitrchs XD. your being is waste of space. didn't you realize ?.. you say about my english ??? care about your shit in your pants.
@Japanobuster There's only one person who makes traditional chinese bows alive today and his bows aren't even that good (this was an arguement that greater complexity doesn't mean greater quality).
That is a gross exaggeration, 2 of the best craftsmen of these kinds of traditional bows are from Hungary: Grozer and Kassai. Not to mention there are tens of world class longbow and selfbow makers in England and the United States.
The english longbow has a far greater power capabilities and english longbowmen were among the finest archers in the world.
Also, well made yew selfbows can last a lifetime. Any bow that uses glue is damaged simply through use or by humidity, excessive heat and handeling much, much, much quicker than a coated selfbow.
What you said isn't a gross exaggeration, it's simply not true.
@TheZongta Any selfbow immediately kicks anything else's ass with durability, the shape of the bow has little effect and the complexity of production doesn't have any direct relation either. You're obviously not experienced in this so just do some research and come back.
PS. Great korean archers use a modern compound bow, not their traditional bow.
@ihaterobbie123 Who told you that!...ahhahahha...You mayyyybe be right on the durability because it's just a long stick and no room for anything to go wrong LOL but your other statements are laughable. Next time do a little research before you have to back track and embarass yourself. Thanks for the laugh...it's going to be a good day I see.
@TheZongta Well...it's a selfbow, it's fucking easy to figure out. Because it's a self-laminate the wood is designed to bend (as the tree would in the wind). Not becaus it's a stick, a normal stick would break, lamination is a must have in any good bow.
What do you have to offer in the way of more complex processes yeilding better results? The chinese bow is easily the most complex but the last maker of it has been refused manufactring deals (consistancy and reliability issues).
It's very similar to Turkish bow except the set back grip and slighlty different limb extremities. The triangular thickening of the limb extremities, the so-called "kassan" does not exist in Korean bow.
@abdulkabza Very similar indeed and the reason for it goes way back thousands of years in history. When east Turk and Koreans (Gogureo) formed alliance and fought against Dang Dynasty of modern day China. Beating them squarely in battles where Dang always had the upper hand in terms of numbers.
@poomn2008 That is not true, because if it was, the Manchu/Mongol Qings (Who used bows very similar to Korean bows) would not have conquered the Ming forces if they had the same type of bow. Also this bow has been used since the Korean Goguryeo Dynasty wayyyyy before the Ming Dynasty was even founded.

The Korean recurve bow is named by wiki 'reflex bow'.
formal reflex bow shape is C like, instead of formal recurve bow shape {
korean bow's shape is G like, like in this video. it is very efective.

@ihaterobbie123 LOL...the longbow is generic and barbaric. It's just a long stick Haaha. That's like comparing a club to a katana.
