It actually makes me cry, I came here when I was 10 it was the best pier ever, It didn't deserve to burn down and the new pier just isn't the same, doesn't have its old charm.

@instrumentalist122 ofcoarse it was an insurance job, the country is in so much debt they simply tourch places to get the insurance, things like pubs, arcades etc...well the pier was simply one of those...so sad

All the people saying it only started in one place so could have been saved- they said that all the inside was on fire when they got there it all just came through the roof at the same time so looked like it spread really quickly! It is reopened now and better than ever!

i just heard off my friend in Weston Super Mare and they said that the Grand Pier was being rebuilt this week! Also on the website they should be finished during the summer of 2010

I love the pier it was one of my favorate attractions of the U.K then I was told it was burnt down I didn't belive them at 1st but then I saw the news & it was such a shock because it is so rare that a place like that catches fire it was a total screw up as I was going to try out the 2 WEEK OLD go cart track so it was a total screw up of my summer :(

I live in weston and i'm only 12. My friend text me at 8:30am telling me the pier was on fire. i didn't beleive her! i remember going to see it when it had burnt down. It was just a heap of metal. one of the rides, one i was hoping to go on, was still kinda standing in the centre. my brother lives right in front of the pier and was the first on the scene. he took loads of pictures. I was planning to go on the pier about 2 days after it burnt down. So, i guess that was my summer ruined :S :(
