I think it's very childish to judge an artist as 'not real' because they do something that outside whatever genre the music industry and fans assign them. It's called being creative. If Industrial bands for example still sounded like Throbbing Gristle then the genre would have long since faded away into nothing, instead along came bands like Skinny Puppy and later Nine Inch Nails, who built on the earlier formats and expanded into something new. Music is always evolving!
