I'm confused. What about this "feature" makes you like the AK more? It will also fire without the handguard, stock and pistol grip. The front sight, that can go too. You could even probably figure out a way to fire it without the trigger component.

It's not really a big deal that this can be done. The dust cover holds nothing in place within the rifle. It's just that... a cover. The only things that this provides is an unsafe way to fire your AKM.

Actually, I don't know why it shouldn't fire. I once saw a docu about the AK 47 in which Kalashnikov himself said that he "left the parts enough space to operate" which means it's no difference for the bolt if the dust cover is on or not. unlike some other guns the AKs don't need the dust cover as a guide for the bolt.

@tacdriver22mk2 because there is always a chance that powder, or small pieces of dirt/metal could fly up into your face due to the rapid function of the open bolt. Sometimes an AK can shave off very thin brass shavings from the casing during function and without the dust cover those shavings could fly at your face.

I did this at the range all day. Some guy who thinks he runs the range came to me and said ARE YOU TRYING TO GET US ALL KILLED. You know the type. S&W 500, custom AR, 1000 dollar custom 45's yet never in his life touched an AK because they arent precision machines. So I said nope. I know the story sucks but it shows what kind of prejudice people have about the AK.

Good thing you are wearing glasses, where I live people have AK-47's left over from the Yugoslavia wars, some of them missing receivers, some pistol grips, some stocks, and a bunch of other vital components. The people with missing receivers may still have a fully functional weapon, but suffer from cataracts or are blind now.

the cover keeps you from putting your face on the reciprocating bolt carrier and return/action spring assembly, it ISNT needed for the safe opperation, in fact the spring assembly holds the cover on the gun.

@JoshuaG19 You may get some gas blowback during rapid fire (that's why I didn't shoulder the AK. I do not recommend you firing the AK without all of it's parts unless it's an emergency situation.

That's not a big deal to shoot that what. It actually hurts the reliability of the rifle as it opens up for larger debri. With a AR you still get dust in but not larger debri.
