I didn't like this film. It seemed like the Wachowskis were not sure if they were making a kids movie or a grown-up movie. And Spritle was so fuckin annoying.
@murdock283 i will give you Spritle and Chimchim were annoying. I also thought there was some confusion as over whether it was a kids movie as evidenced by the cars at the start of Caso Christo blowing up in clouds of colour.
However I thought the movie overall was rather enjoyable with some quite anime-esque moments
I agree, I haven't seen this film but I've seen this guy review other movies, and he's pretty biased, and because he works for the tribune, makes me think so even more. But to be honest, this actually looks like an alright movie, not like ground breaking shit but alright, the graphics seem pretty full on.
The Wachowski grew up watching anime and this movie shows it in every vibrant frame. The characters all look exactly like the ones in the cartoon. And (bonus), it has a kickass song during the end credits. I can't wait to get this on Blu-Ray.

Frankly in my opinion this movie had more action then Ironman did and it had me on the edge of my seat, but Iroman was also a very good film I just like this one a tiny bit more.

Speed Racer is one of the very best films I've ever seen. It site atop the ranks of films, as it is not a movie; it is art. The movie had an absolutely incredibly story, some of the most dramatic sequences ever put together, and some truly deep and inspiring themes that make it so much more than anyone expected. Its a shame that amazing movies like this get slammed, while mediocre shitty movies like Iron Man get unlimited praise. Iron Man is everything wrong with the movie industry.
I don't know if you know, but Speed Racer was getting slammed in the reviews. One headline even said "What went wrong with Speed Racer?" I thought it was TOTALLY AWESOME. I didn't even want to see it at first because I thought it wouldn't have a plot. But it actually did have a storyline. Anyway, in the reviews they said not many people liked the movie. I don't think that's true, but I do want to find out. So if you saw Speed Racer and liked it, or even thought it was okay, reply. NOT SPAM.
The only reason people think it's shallow is because the colour palette is too strong and daring for their 80-year-old minds to handle. They can't wrap their hands around the fact that a movie CAN be visually stunning and have a good enough storyline too.
Well they might as well make a movie for the playstation videogame made by sony called wipeout which would make more sense than cars with rubber wheels hitting mach 5!

This movie didn't do it for me. first off there was too much colors, I love colors but man that was too much. Second, I'm a big fan of cool CGI animation and some parts of the film were preatty neat, but in the end they overworked the CGI and you can get tierd off it in this movie. The acting wasn't very impressive, and I got sick of the people going by infront of the screen in CGI motion. Finally the movie was a bit too long and not a good idea for this movie. 2/5 stars.
Worst movie ever! WTF! All I have to say is, what the hell happened to the Mach 5. All of a sudden it was gone and they had to build a Mach 6? Get the F^@% out of here! The whole Chimp thing needed to go! Wasn't speed racing the Mach 6 in the opening shot of the film? what the hell was that? What the hell was the target audience, too violent for kids and too childish for adults. What a waste of film making. How about those cheese ass CG shots of the city and the neighborhood... OMG! The reason why Cars and The Fast and the Furious movies were such good films is that the movies took time to introduce the characters, had a well-develop script with action that fitted well into the storyline. My tastes are all over the movie map, I enjoy movies from pretty much all genres, from movies people may call dumb humor all the way up to movies people would call intellectual films. But there are good dumb movies, and, unfortunately, very bad ones, and Speed Racer seemingly falls in the latter group.
It's because it doesn't take place in the real world...it's a made up world. Like a cartoon. You saying Nascar Racers saying ,"Are you serious?!" is like saying a zookeeper goes ,"What a Lion that talks?!?!" in Narnia. It's that stupid...

Not the kind of movie I would mind watching again. I could do a better movie than that.
Kung-Fu cars? No scratches or dents anywhere and they stay in pristene condition after the race.
