This smart ass took six minutes to tell me what he could have in 30 seconds. I don't care what he had for lunch and I don't want to hear the whack it with a hammer fix. I wouldn't call this yahoo to do anything for me.
Dr.Z........got a good for you..........Goodman gas package unit has locked out/shut down.......Replace c/b...transformer,contactor,capacitor,I do not have 24 volt at the contactor-coil.The evap.motor does run on the fan side of the thermostat.but nothing else. There is 33.4 volts on the secondary of the transformer.Check all f/s,r/s,l/s.I even wired the thermostat at the molex plug directly......still nothing .What am I missing..........
@MrTERRYD55 You might want to try jumpering the red thermostat wire to the green wire and see if the fan comes on. If it does then there's something wrong with the thermostat or the wire going to the thermostat.
Doc, I have to bust you also ! Double whammy ! LOL..Shouldn't poke and tug on run capacitors with your bare hands. Not safe and could be very unforgiving. I know techs that have been knocked on their butts touching them, when not being discharged after the disconnect was already off.
When it really gets hairy, I connect a data logger to suspect components though I can usually find an intermittent problem using more conventional test gear and some reasoning. If all else fails and you don't have a good answer for the customer they appreciate that you are still on the ball rather than telling them that you don't know what the problem is because it's intermittent.
Had a condenser fan motor that would start ok when cold as it usually was by the time we got to site but found out that once it had warmed up it wouldn't start!
Had another one that would stop working when the sun was shining on the controller, again by the time we got there the sun had moved round! Makes the job interesting :-)
I do get calls like that, they are so irritating. Never works except when I'm there. And I have to tell the customer that I cannot troubleshoot it unless it is not working when I arrive.
@DrZarkloff i got you in youre fix the ac for the neabor to you said the bord or connector was bad turned out as you found the critter was shorting it out:)
Intermittent problems are probably crazy to diagnose with all those components and wires. Thanks for covering all those possibilities! Do you call that a "technical tap" at 2:15?
Hello Dr.Z,thanks for the followup ....I replaced the thermostat..Problem fixed...

@heavydiesel That sounds like a bad run capacitor or bearings.
DrZarkloff 1 year ago
@DrZarkloff Yeah, the run cap checked out ok so i put a new motor and new capacitor on it.

have you ever had a oil sump heater trip short once it heated up to operating temp? itt happened to me on several Trane screw machines
IChoseTheRedPill 1 year ago
@IChoseTheRedPill At least you know what's happening. You could replace the oil sump heater and see it that fixes it.
