@Srfingfreak when maching aluminium, you doesn't need an oil lubricant or e-bua-xi water(sorry i don't know what it's name in english), because the lubricant will cool down the aluminium so fast, and stick to the cutting edge of the tools
amigo recien empizo a ver estoy y necesito saber que programa se utiliza para pasar del diseño 3d al codigo g para que el control numerico lo tome gracias
What type and grade of tooling were you using to be able to cut without coolant? and for anyone wishing u could learn this at school. Don't bother, the money ain't worth the stress. You normally get ONE piece of metal and a time to do it. Normally without CADCAM, using trig etc on the machine control, you do it wrong you're fucked. Please choose another career, you will NEVER get to do this type of work
its such a shame that this cannot be learned in high school here in ireland. Ive worked with mill machines in the past and the job is so interesting! The satisfaction of getting your programming correct is cool!
Not bad, but I would've ran that 1/4 ball in 3-axis, and had it cut on the corner of the ball . They're just showing off. Look at the surface finish, I'm sure someone had to spend some time benching that.
Art is not wasted time ... unlike the stupid engineers, you can make beautiful things that enrich the spirit, while they only can make square pegs for round holes.
What you need to do is learn manufacturing engineering and CAD, which you can do on your own, and add that to your artistic skill and BOOM, you're an industrial designer, which is basically an artistic mechanical engineer. Good luck and don't give up the quest.
@nightowl8936 "which you can do on your own..." I can't agree with that. I have been in manufacturing for about 8 years. In every instance, I put forth the willingness to learn, but was shut out by those who already knew the software. I think have a degree in engineering and having the technology taught to you by someone who is willing is key. Finding the willing people is next to near impossible. In my case, I need to learn Math. Pre-Algebra, algebra, Trig, calculus, physics. I need a tutor!
It may depend on the software and where you are. These people who shut you out are probably doing it in a selfish bid to keep themselves gainfully employed.
It helps to be decent at math, but you don't need to know the math of how NURBS work in order to use them for design. Its only if you want to roll your own that knowing deep math is essential. Its not going to be easy to master, but if you are determined, it can be done, but you have to be willing to struggle.
@FREEHANDILLUSTRATOR thanks. I know I can do it - it's now up to the CNC instructor. I know general math. Thats it! I have to learn enough math to get to a physics level in 2 years. I'm not sure if it's possible, but I will try it if you think it is - and yes, I learn quickly if someone is willing to teach me.

up to like 3:31 I thought you were remaking the toyota MR2 from the 90's lol, I was like AWESOME!..... and then I saw it was changing and then its still awesome! lol
Itd take a wee bit more than 4000 letters and numbers to cut this part. Besides the program you draw the part in takes care of all the code you don't have to type it all into the control panel
@NewTaco522 lol 4000 letters and numbers. This was a huge program, probably DNC or similar. 4000 pages maybe....... for the first tool. CAM is nice for things like this.
so how many numbers and letters did u have to enter i learned how to do this stuff last semester but its really hard to do and alot to do with numbers. also how long did it take u to enter it all correctly
you can also make inferior tools for the cnc mill itself but the materials probably weaker in composition, eh? then use it to cut wood, plastics, softer metals or make a mold and use the stronger materials...voila.
I use to do this by hand on a deckel or duplicator. Now they can do much more on cnc especially once they get the other axis going. So much more accurate.
thats pretty sweet.... i was lucky enough to see full scale audi being milled at IMTS chicago on a big ass gantry mill....run time.... 37 hours... cool vid tho!

So, when something like this is programmed, the user has to come up with an equation for the direction the tool must go, and then also account for the shape of the bit etc?
This has to be some fancy software. To program that using coordinates would be a folly, it would be quicker to give a guy a lump of metal and a file and leave him to it. CAM has come a long way.

@NSResponder You need a 3D model of the P-38, then with Cad software, it may needs correction/adjustment.
Then programming process on CAM software, to prepare the model for machining. (toolpaths, ...)
