you people do not know what you are talking about!! Marcus Rediker along with Robin Kelly and Peter Linebaugh are our greatest living historians!!The many headed hydra is a book that will make you work but it will reward you. And his book the slave ship is so powerful that alice walker said she had to take to her bed after reading it. There is another video Mr. Robert Moses speaking about "nonsense"
And at 37 mins he talks about abolition as being against the slave trade. He knows very well that abolitionists were opposed to that and to slavery, but that the official ending of the slave trade in the US was not the work of abolitionists.
The men who wrote the US Constituiton & included that clause & Jefferson in 1807/8 was no abolitionist. He wasnt against slavery at all, and that's a seperate issue. "Capitalism and Slavery" by Eric Williams is far better - so is WEB Dubios on Slave Trade
0:34:00 his 3rd reason is that "people don't look at the oceans as real places" & "I invented a word for it" - what a piffle.
I've strained to listen this far; yes we should study the ships, but he's a typical nonsense professor w/ nothing to say. Criticise all reasearchers befroe u; come up w/ ridiclous rasons why they ignored an area; claim to enlighten th world w/ rare documents (the court case) & al for what? To sell a book.
Sorry, but there's nothing new here & I'm not impressed.
