  • Awesome song. Thanks Charles!

  • pretty hollow words, coming from a demented psychopath

  • BTW, assholes. It doesn't matter if he didn't kill anyone. He was guilty of 9 counts of conspiracy to commit murder. Look up criminal conspiracy.

  • Never learn not to steal a song.

  • for some eye-opening reading on charlie, the beach boys & the 60s laurel canyon rock scene, google "inside the LC" by dave mcgowan.

  • I think cease to exist sounds better. Charlie's version is way better than this shit!

  • This just goes to show the genius of the Beach Boys. Able to take a song from a completely psychotic asshole and make it brilliant with those harmonies.

  • wow. some people are so fuckin' stupid. makes me not want to read comments at all. boo.

  • He never did get the title right...lol

  • fuck mike love.. faggot

  • Hahaha, I came here, expecting trollrage about C. Manson and I wasn't let down, lol.

  • Hahaha, I came here, expecting trollrage about C. Manson and I wasn't let down, lol.

  • two words: Charles Manson

  • yo manson rocks hahahaha he never got hands dirty so idk y he in for life its stupid if i tell all yall go kill someone and u do it well thats ur fault and ur decision not mine if were all responsible for what others do then ppl were FUCKED ;) now bring on the comments lol

  • @arthurmlittle only one...learn how to write, because nobody know what you are saying.

  • @arthurmlittle so ur sayin he never killed some1..... he only got people to kill for him?

  • Manson's version is much better. Not to knock the Beach Boys but Manson did it better.

  • That's unreal. That was almost word for word and the entire song is similar to Manson's. One thing you can't underestimate is that Manson was one of the greatest manipulators of all time, he knew what people were interested in.

  • The Beach Boys took a pretty rough idea from Manson and made it into a great song. It's unfortunate that they didn't enjoy more success from this period- a lot of great tracks and albums (like Friends for one) that were overlooked.

  • @whitford70 Great? This version is freaking horrible. Dennis was a horrible singer and he destroyed this song.

  • @cuntrytrash has soon has I read horrible singer, Dennis was trying to switch notes which made me lmao

  • Mike Douglas life motto: avoid all controversy.

  • who's playing drums?

  • @MsJollycholly it's hard to believe but it's Dennis' brother: it's Carl Wilson

  • Fuck the Beach Boys. Pussy American wannabes of The Beatles that had to rip off Charles Manson. Manson did it better

  • stealing bastards

  • It was recorded alot better. A very good song as recorded. And it isn't bad here.

  • First texting, then sexting, then phone sex, then sex.

  • "How are things in California" "Wet". If this had of been a year later: "How are things in California" Oh well you know the writer of our next song is responsible for the brutal murder of an 8 month preganant woman and 8 other innocent people so erm, not so good". Fuck You Charles Manson

  • @TheCheese4450 steve mcqueen was carrying a gun at all times after that murder

  • @TheCheese4450

    Fuck you, he was innocent.

  • @FadeToPuppets No he wasn't. He was responsible for every murder he ordered.

  • @Murderermarv

    No proof was ever given.

  • @TheCheese4450 "Fuck you charles manson" ..............

  • @TheCheese4450 Charlie is innocent

  • @Sonichusnumber1fan The should have hung the little piece of shit

  • @whereiszoe yeah all that stuff you said is really cool, except for one thing. its called coincidence.

  • It is unbelievable the Beach Boys thought Smile was a bad idea but this was a good idea. This is god awful.

  • Mike Douglas nauseated me. He always seemed to have such contempt and disrespect for the youth of America.

  • This sounds horrible. Mansons version is a better

  • "Cease to resist...." anything to do with the pixies song wave of mutilation? maybe black francis took this lyric as a starting point? who knows.... 'wave of mutilation' is the shit though

  • Dennis Wilson was tried of the Beach Boys sound and wanted to do something goovy. It did not work. His father and Manager Murray Wilson sold all the Beach Boys music for $700k in 1970 thinking they were done. They went back to their old Surf and Sting Rays music and had a comeback in the late 70s.

  • he gave it to the he was friends with dennis

  • Listening to Cease to Exist, it's much more than just the lyrics that are similar. They are the same song it's just the feel is radically different between the two. They share the same chords and the same melody as well as virtually the same lyrics.

  • Cease to exist was better and not-sold-out

  • @TheKuroiSheep Strange how it sounds nothing like "cease to exist"

  • @jcindahouz: Strange how the lyrics are eerily similar...

  • @TheKuroiSheep I played them again and now I hear the similarity

  • @jcindahouz: They have their similarities but the lyrics between the songs have more in common. Likely because Beach Boys stole Manson's song. Or their manager did, anyway. I don't think those guy did anything on their own.

  • Telescopes made this song their own

  • Oh charlie! Your'e so sexy!

  • Considering all the money that Manson and his followers used Dennis for, Dennis and/or the Beach Boys didn't dick Charlie out of anything. Dennis literally had to move out of his own home to get rid of them! They used him for hundreds of thousands of dollars! Later, after Manson was arrested for the murders, Dennis told chief prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi, "I was lucky - All I lost was my money!", referring to the fact that many people lost their lives!

  • @soyboy62 And after Dennis moved out, Charlie had a bullet sent through where Dennis was staying

  • I personally think The Beach Boys killed this song in a MAJOR way. I favor the original MUCH more.

  • @walmartgoof I'm just saying he has a really good singing voice, I prefer his version Cease To Exist over this one by The Beach Boys. But they're both good. Even though Charles Manson isn't a sane person. Also, he wasn't the one who murdered anyone, haha.

  • Dennis's arrangement of this song is fucking amazing. Changing the lyric from "cease to exist" to "cease to resist" robs the song of some power. I LOVE the phrase "Cease to Exist."

  • @sonicdeath10 you should try it sometime

  • Manson + Beach Boys. Great mix.

  • They dicked Chuck out of about 25 grand in royalties. And his (Manson's) big break in showbiz. Pigs.

  • @faffaflunkie: Well, 25 grand worth of shit in the prison commissary ain't what it used to be.

  • @MerseySky Yeah. If you take things personally the music biz isn't for you.

  • @faffaflunkie: I think that should be a commandment, faffaflunkie!

  • I'm blown away that

    a) they did this live on TV

    b) someone taped it

    c) someone posted it up here

Definitely not an easy one to sing - Dennis is brave to have a go and does a creditable job.

  • Manson's songwriting talent? you must be kidding. But of course Dennis, like many young pro-hippie-spirited kids at the time searching for so called 'freedom' of mind, could come under the spell of that charismatic maniac clown, yet just only one of the many then and always on the prowl for simple souls.

  • @barbechine I love how people actually buy into Manson's "spell". Anytime someone says something positive about Manson people like you say "you're under his spell!" If Manson had a spell it was people envied him and he hyped himself up to the point that they idolized him. Manson has no special powers, don't be so naive. As for his talent, he definitely had a talent with words. His 1967 album is full of catchy songs. The Lie album as well. He clearly had enough talent to interest Universal.

  • This is terrible

  • god damn hippies.

  • who takes over the drums?

  • @predlycon It looks like Carl Wilson.

  • @ftsjr When I now know how the early line up (with the addition of bruce johnston) looks like, i can identify the drummer as carl wilson. but i thought he only played guitar.

  • thanks matt--didnt know that he agreed to sell for a one time payment.

  • Dennis Wilson was a great songwriter, and he DID make some contribution to this song. To be fair, though, Manson wrote the lion's share of the song, but only agreed to a one-off payment, rather than a writing credit. Dennis' material on Pacific Ocean Blue, Bambu and some other Beach Boys numbers in the late '60s and '70s showcase that he was a great talent.

P.S. It appears here that the only thing live is Dennis' voice - everything else seems to come from the original track.

  • and yes dennis wilson did steal the music and contributed in his own way of helping to promote the actions of people like charles manson. his education came in prison after the society he was born in threw him out. no defense of a monster. just fact. maybe some of you should read a little history.

  • @tbrd1n Dennis did NOT steal this. charlie gave the song to him in order to pay wilson back a bit for the half a million that the family usurped from Dennis, i.e dentist, dr. bills and the crashing of his car. Dennis took the song for several reasons, money and the foot in the door for charlie who he had planned to sign to Brother Records. And to be fair, Manson had some cool tunes. Manson got mad that Dennis changed some of the words and added to it. He didnt steal it however.

  • @1shnookste That doesn't explained why he credited himself as the songwriter and not Charlie. He could still get the profits from the song if Manson indeed signed over rights (which he did not) without trying to deceive people by crediting himself. A lot of that "Family" lived with Wilson before Manson met them. For instance Brooks Poston and Tex Watson. They took from Dennis too (they claim Dennis was disassociating himself) so don;t blame Charlie for all of their shit too.

  • like it or not, charles manson wrote this and should deserve the credit for it. true he went the wrong direction and masterminded murder tho not by himself. but doesnt matter, he did write the song and music. he was potentially one of the best muscicians of the era. sad. a victim of the times and circumstances. live with it

  • @tbrd1n What do you mean does not matter? It is terrible. The original lyrics by Manson are a bit altered but contain bits like: "cease to exist" , "give up your world" "Submission is a gift" and more horror Bla Bla. I doubt if the Beach Boys realized this , because they crafted a beautiful song out of Manson's twisted mind.

  • @reteipdevries you mean manson crafted a beautiful song, and they remixed it with their mediocre shite.

  • @tbrd1n didn't they buy it from him or something?

  • @tbrd1n maybe we're all just one united victim of charlie's circumstances.... pretty girl,

  • @pl198029 if you think Manson wasn't responsible, then you're misinformed, HE'S LOCKED UP FOR THE MURDERS DUMBASS.

  • Manson wasn't responsible for shit. You obviously were "misinformed by misinformed people" 4 or 5 people in san fransisco?? dude your a moron. Read up on your history then come back and say something cuz obviously you dont know shit about it so dont even say nothing

  • The MC says: "it's fashionable to say in California have you moved lately...many of them have - without wanting to." How ironic and prescient of what would happen later....He doesn't sing it with any conviction because he knows he stole it. He is partly responsible for what happened to Sharon Tate and the others.

  • @timbolicous

I think it is reckless to blame Dennis for the Manson murders. Dennis did steal the song pretty much and deserves flack for that... but remember too that Dennis recognized Manson's talent and, more so than anyone else in those times, really tried to get Manson plugged into the SoCal music scene.

Dennis held recordings for Manson and introduced him to industry big-wigs as "the Wizard". Dennis gave Manson his best shot-- it was when the industry shunned him that Charlie lost it.

  • The MC says: "it's fashionable to say in California have you moved lately...many of them have - without wanting to." How ironic and prescient of what would happen later....

  • @timbolicous Yes, because the Golden Coast SUCKS right now!

  • this version is gay as fuck.......Charlies version kicks ass!! this sounds like a little kids song...haha the beach boys....they fuckin suck

  • cease to exist brother!

  • That was crap" it sucks" And so does Manson ,The fricken wierdo!!!!

  • As dennis was singing the line "Submission is a gift" the thought of Susan Atkins in a "sawhorse" position ran through his mind, with him at one end, and charlie at the other! THE CHICKEN ON A ROTISEERIE

  • That is one cool shirt!

  • @BipolarPics Amazing, isn't it? To think that it could be kicking around in a charity (thrift) shop at this very moment...

  • I wonder if Dennis Wilson is thinking at that exact moment how he had Patricia Krenwinkle in a Chicken on a Rotiseerie position with him at one end and Manson on the other! Haha! Dennis you sick fuck!

  • Love that Telecaster!

  • ok so i type in dennis wilson and this doesnt look or sound like dennis????????

  • if you really listen to dennis he sounds like manson listen close.manson was better at wriribg then singing i always wondered bout manson i think he's been more free then we all thought he has songs out there that are hits song by your fav bands and look at this guy same stats as manson????

  • dude. someone autotune this guy. i thought the beachboys were supposed to have harmony. this is aweful.

  • @baconhanger Autotune is for twats like justine bieber !!!

  • Dennis couldn't get that pack of animals out of his house.

  • mansons version is musically primitive in comparision - much prefer this to mansons unmelodic and unmuscial version.

  • CHARLES MANSON <3 He sung it better, just saying. But I love them both.

  • @isolatemarissa charles manson is nothing but a sick murdering piece of shit who deserves nothing but electricity going throgh his body on a electric chair

  • @walmartgoof He murdered no one!!!!

  • Charlie wasn't only a mass manipulator, and mass murderer, I truly think his music helped push those poor young people into insanity and turned them into heartless killers. The world would have been a much better place without Manson and his accomplices. It's a shame they didn't do themselves in rather than kill innocent people.

  • @pmoyer50 c'mon, man! do you really think that charlie has any impact on the world??? withuot him things would be exactly the same...

  • @dobrotnik neil young said he had great potential as a songwriter [hallways of the always that was a play on words by him like please please me by john lennon ]

  • Redd Kross' version #1. On "Born Innocent"

  • This is the song that was supposed to make manson famous and he felt betrayed and let down after this was recorded, you know what happened..the original was lot more creepier and sadistic Ive read it has chanting and it freaked Dennis out completely

  • Originally Cease To Exist by Charles Manson.

Dennis Wilson was impressed by Manson's songwriting talent.

  • @dotnrlg6 So was neil young he said he had great potential as a songwriter

  • I'm surprised the Beach Boys even bothered. What a terrible song even though they changed the lyrics. However, if Charlie or Hitler hadn't grown up in a patriarchal society that hates and abuses males physically and mentally, they probably would have been fine people. But who knows if sociopaths are born or made. There is no way to undo and redo a life. It's important that we not abuse any children regardless of gender. If you don't want them, don't have sex.

  • no one can say your commending his murders as he never was convicted of murder only conspiracy to commit murder

  • Care to make any comments about Hitler's art? Anita Bryant was a great singer too you know? Hey, how do you feel about Richard Nixon's piano playing? I'll bet Dick Nixon could play circles around Charlie Manson.

  • the presenter guy is so retarded

  • Amazing song, irrespective of who wrote it. If they only knew.....

  • Other than Dennis not hitting those high notes too well, I rather like this. ALOT!

  • Dennis is hot!

  • Comment removed

  • i love dennis

  • fuck manson, this song sucks. no wonder the beach boys didnt write it

  • Charlie es better

  • Dennis Wilson was killed by my shadow because he took my music and changed the words from my soul. - Charles Manson

I like Charlie's original version better. Feels more real than this.

  • @TestDrive231 dennis wilson drowned , charlie wanted to be famous but he never was, i wonder why

  • @Brainkid88

Manson became an cultural icon in the end, a myth... Not specifically for his music, but for the truth in general. Wilson was a sell-out anyway and that's what ultimately killed him. He was a musician for fame & fortune and the image. Manson never sold out, he played music for himself, just riding his own wave... He himself probably didn't give a shit about a record deal... I believe his followers did way more than he did himself.

  • @TestDrive231 i dont care

  • @TestDrive231 manson was never signed because his music was lackluster.

  • @mytitans

According to various sources, manson was just too undisciplined to work with in the studio environment, unwilling to go by the rules of recording process.

but hey, whatever u want to believe...

  • @TestDrive231 You're describing some who at the very least led a cult of killers, thieves and drug addicts as "undisciplined." I think that the fact that Manson stole gold records from wilson's home speaks volumes about the men. Manson wanted fan and got it for the most inhuman reasons. The man was a wannabe musician turned monster and you're defending him.

But hey if that's what you want to believe...

  • @testdrive231 excuse the mistakes responding from a phone.

    Some = someone , fan = fame

  • @TestDrive231

Manson really wanted a record deal. The murders occurred shortly after his music was rejected by the record industry establishment.

  • @MrCountrypop The murders also happened shortly after the Crowe and Hinman incident. Even Tex said that HE picked the Tate house because he knew the layout. That murder had nothing to do with Wilson or Melcher, it was opportunity. Watson even said the murder was for money and to free Bobby, not any jealousy thing. I don't think Manson cared THAT much that they recorded his song. Melcher rejected Manson not because his lack of talent, but because he heard about the Crowe incident. That is fact.

  • @cuntrytrash I agree - but manson frustration and disenchantment with the music business he hoped would welcome him did have an effect on mansons attitude.

  • @MrCountrypop It did, but that happened after the Bernard Crowe incident-- right at the end. Melcher (according to many people) was wanting to shoot a documentary on commune living and the Family's music up until then as well. By time the Bernard Crowe incident-- and Jakobson heard about it-- Tex had already started to pull Manson into his problems, which made Manson bitter. Then shortly after that BeauSoleil and then the die was cast. People blame Manson, but Tex and Bobby are equally to blame.

  • Manson music wrapped in a pretty Beach Boy bow. lol. I got that from the 2004 version of Helter Skelter.

  • Read Dave McGowan's research into the Laurel Canyon music scene secrets. It's at davesweb d-ot cnchost do--t co,m

  • The Beach Boys and Charles Manson.....boy its hard to imagine these two together

  • I think that both versions are great...

  • Strange, that this is quite a gentle song. I quite like it. havent heard Manson's version, but I like this.

  • @foxywormworm - not much of a brain though, otherwise he wouldn't have been incarcerated for most of his life. Not much of a heart either, bearing in mind his previous activities. As for being a 'genius'... you're entitled to your opinion but then, so is everybody else and if you can't accept that then it's you who is an ignorant bastard. Of course that's just my opinion...

  • It would be funny if Murray went up on stage while they were singing, and starting beating dennis with his smoke pipe!

  • Check out Dennis taking charge!!

  • I like both the original and this version, but the best version of "cease to exist" was recorded by Redd Kross!

  • I like the Beach Boys version a lot better than Manson's. But I've got a weird pallate for music. I loved Pink Floyd's "The Final Cut" and R.E.M.'s "Up," two of the most hated albums in history.

Yeah, I think the Beach Boys recording is just so beautiful. The best way I can put it is that I'm in the centre of a room, and on either end of the room there is a giant fan blowing in my direction, but it's not blowing wind, it's blowing music. That's what I feel when I hear this song.

  • who killed sgt pepper?

  • You and me.

  • why am I not surprised to see you on this video? haha

but seriously love the new album and everything you've made

  • @antonfjordson i did, btw i love all the new songs. I haven't gotten the album yet, but i am pretty sure it be a fucking great time.

  • 1:52

Was Dennis doing that falsetto? It sounded downright Brian-esque.

  • I think I liked Charlie's version better.

  • This Beach Boys version is not good. The Manson rendition is actually better.

  • this is the ill jam to have an orgy to before you murder a bunch of people

  • Never Learn not to love Wow!!Charles Manson.FTW!!!

  • This version is a bit slow.

  • @Niiauyr

his version is so slow he has to talk certain parts of it. this is a little more stoned out than the version they do on record, though if that's what you mean.

  • charles manson wrote this hahah

  • What show was this from?? And does anyone know where I can get a copy of it??

  • Luv 2 Charlie.

  • Manson's version was way better. And to any asshole who is going to comment me down for this remember I'm commending his music not his murders. -_-

  • Manson was a much better musician than he's given credit for, the original version of this is quite good, as are several other songs on the infamous "Lies" album. People who blindly insult his music have generally never listened to much of it.

  • Some of the LIE record is decent, but much of it is crap.

  • he has written it sucka

  • @ikay214 You got that song with Manson singing ?

  • @ikay214 So, according to your logic, if anyone disagrees with your opinion ,they are an asshole ?

  • @BeachBoysGuy1 Dude I never said that. If you disagree with my opinion about Manson's version being better you could comment it down. I meant don't comment it down if you just don't like Manson because he was a murderer.

  • @ikay214 stfu

  • @ikay214 where did you find the original version?

  • @ikay214 I like Manson's lyrics, but I like the rhythm of this one a little better. Other than Manson being bat shit crazy he could have been a R&R HOFer.

  • @ikay214 / Your full of shit! Dennis Wilson is bad ass and his music will live on forever. Manson had no skill writing music compared to Dennis Wilson!
