I think that some Americans believe that Europe is a country! Apparently only about 25% even have a passport. America seems to be a very insular country with people who's misguided patriotism and ignorance about the rest of the world defies belief. I've been to Portugal, it's a very beautiful country, I spent a month in Lisbon shortly after a fire destroyed most of the Chiado district in about 1988, it was so very sad, there was a raised platform over which we could see the damage.
